Re: Practical Magic, read the book first. Then forget it and watch the film. I love them both, but they are different beings that tell the same story and are yet completely different. Both the book and the movie are some of my favorites for completely different reasons.
No spoilers but you can probably watch Practical Magic before reading it, the plots diverge a lot lol They're both still great though! I actually liked the recent sequel way better than the original book too, so definitely check it out if/when you finish this one :)
I read Written in Red when I first went on Short Term Disability from work back in 2019 and LET ME TELL YOU. I binged the first three books because of the escapism and the wonderful satisfaction of the plot. I hope you like it!
I was shocked by how much I enjoyed the death of Jane Lawrence. Good plot, perfectly spooky, and great audiobook. I really need to read practical magic
i got an ARC of the keeper of night a few months ago and it was an IMMEDIATE 5 star, SO GOOD! i can’t wait to get my own physical copy to annotate. far from the light of heaven sounds so similar to across the universe by beth revis! i’d give it a shot if you haven’t read it!
"Gentelmen in Moscow" is wonderful, I started to read a library copy and after 100 pages I run and got my own. It was one of my favourites this year, and from what I know it's pretty historicaly accurate (not to mention the main character is just everything I ever wanted and writing is just beautiful).
Practical Magic is one of the only instances where I thought the movie was better than the book. That never happens lol. Curious to see what you think!
Amor Towles is one of my favorite authors, and I absolutely loved The Lincoln Highway. Towles just has a knack for writing characters that just feel so human with their quirks and feelings. I think you'll really love it when you get around to it! PS: I believe Vespertine is supposed to be a series!
What a wonderful collection of books! I am a huge fan of Amor Towles and can't wait to read "The Lincoln Highway". But as to Anne Bishop's "Written in Red" book....eh. Was not a fan. Thought the female protagonist was a ninny. And finally, "The Death of Jane Lawerence" sounds so good! Cheers!
Vespertine is a lot of fun, and it’s the first book in a series but also contains a complete story in book 1, so it has that stand-alone feel. It was really atmospheric and darkly funny, which I didn’t expect.
I don't have that much money so I often buy books on NBS (National bookstore) that's on sale or a mini bookstore on another part of the mall I got 5 books from my Saturday Haul • Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell • All We Can Do Is Wait by Richard Lawson • Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian • Haunting Jordan by P.J Alderman • SILK by Caitlin R. Kiernan I got the first three books for 99 pesos (roughly around 1.97 dollars) and got the later 2 for 100 pesos (roughly around 1.99 dollars) which sums up to about 497 pesos or 9.91 dollars Currently reading Haunting Jordan and so far I like it
unfortunately jade fire gold is a standalone!! the author june mentioned that it was originally meant to be a series but got shortened into a standalone due to publishing issues :(
Practical Magic is an amazing movie (and a so-so book), but I would highly recommend the prequel The Rules of Magic, HBO have the rights too so we could potentially see a show one day.
