My Advice To A Young Mixer
Today I look at a viewer's mix of Colton Benjamin's "21 grams" and demonstrate ways it could be improved. I give advice about mixing techniques, how to build a song mix, and the roles certain instruments play in our lives and music.

Spelling correction: Sheperd should read "Shepherd" in the titles. That one slipped through the cracks, my bad!

The vocal in your mix sounds pinched compared to the submitted vocal that sounds warmer and richer. Just how I hear it.

Sure, but if the drums were fattened up like they are in my mix there would be an overlap of frequencies that muddy the mix. What matters is context. If the goal were to make the vocals warm and rich in every song, then everything around them would be different.
