This is such a beautiful, heartwrenching song. This is a masterpiece of writing and arranging by Sting and Alison's voice is just perfect for it. She is one of the few out there now that can pull off a perfect, live performance. Alot of today's female singers have to look good in a skimpy outfit and their voices require extensive manipulation in the studio.
You'll walk unscathed through musket fire No ploughman's blade will cut thee down No cutlass wound will mar thy face And you will be my ain true love And you will be my ain true love And as you walk through death's dark veil The cannons' thunder can't prevail And those who hunt thee down will fail And you will be my ain true love And you will be my ain true love Asleep inside the cannon's mouth The captain cries, "Here comes the rout!" They'll seek to bind me North and South I've gone to find my ain true love The field is cut and bleeds to red The cannon balls fly round my head The infirmary man may count me dead When I've gone to find my ain true love I've gone to find my ain true love
Probably my favorite song both for the haunting words and ethereal harmony between Allison Krauss and Sting....he has written a beautiful Civil War song
exquisite. ..a glimpse into the horror that was the civil war...when men attempting to return to their homes and loved ones were hunted down and shot...paying the ultimate price for a war that ripped the country apart and brought no glory for either side.
Sublime, dark and magical. Sting is a genius and I will always be grateful for the joy he brought to my life. This Sting & Alison Krauss collab is perfect.
Sting is such a pro here. He steps back and bathes in the purity that is Alison Krauss. You can see the moment where he falls in love with her, all over again.
Such a moving, haunting and powerful piece. Alison Krauss is always amazing and unmatched on this song with a voice that's pure, enabling her to blend perfectly with Sting. No other artists could remake or match their tonal quality on this lyrical masterpiece of civil war story telling by Sting and Alison Krauss.
This just *_had_* to be in competition for an Oscar right along side LOTR's "Into the West"... It would have won best original song easily just about any other year. It's simply gorgeous!
Hello guys, we would literally be over the moon if anyone could come and check out our cover for this song. Our fiddle player is truly beautiful. We would be so touched. Thankyou so much and thankyou Alison and Sting for this song. One of my all time fave songs. :-)
SUCH a shame she wasn't really singing. She's completely miming it. I don't blame her it's too intricate for someone to do live like that. You can tell she's miming easily, but if you need proof, look how little she's moving her head, there seems to be no effort put into those falsettos etc, now go watch her ACTUALLY singing, how much of her body and soul she actually puts into her songs, look at how much she has to move her body and her head to get the notes out.
