Was there ever a consideration to replace the $40 voltage regulator In the alternator. That's the part that generally goes bad. Takes 10 minutes and 7 screws to change

Happened exactly to my 335i on a first date. Radar detector gave Hi-Volt and Lo-Volt continuos beeps, all lights flickering, gear light, abs light, brakes, everything was acting up. Got it towed, new alternator 885.99, labor 486.50. Total 1507.64. Still smashed on the first date though, don't know if she felt bad but a score is a score hahaha

i got the same exact symptoms, was your transmission able to shift? i was just leaving a meet, put the car in sport mode and got all the codes. gas throttle wasn’t reacting . i’d shut down and turn back on every 15 seconds . also transmission wanst able to shift to 2 up. any ideas?

I bought my n54 e60 used certified at 80k miles everything is still running smooth I would never buy a low millage n54 most of the time the parts haven't failed yet

This just happened to me right now in front of my house. Smh. Good thing for this video to confirm the issue. Did you check the battery or fuses before you determined it was the alternator? Btw, Rob is the man. He worked on my car before Speedlogic.

So mine gets all those same dash light errors but no codes on MHD. I was at the car wash opening and closing my doors while I cleaned and when it was time to leave, car wouldn’t start. Cranked like a half second only. Dash stayed on and radio played my music. I got my jump pack and it turned on right away no hiccups. This bad alternator or bad battery? I got home just fine. Voltage reads 13.67

I changed my alternator a couple of days ago and I changed it the car doesn’t run the same and the check engine light comes on why do you think it’s for?

So i was driving on the highway, Radio started to lose power on and off, then speedometer went to 0, then headlights and dash lights just went off. figured it was the battery. pulled over, turned it off, wouldnt start back up, had to jump it, drove for a mile, it got me home the same thing happend. You think it might be the alternator?

I’m literally dealing with this right now on top of my radiator cracking on me and having to change the battery. I’m most likely going to change the thermostat along with the radiator so that’s more added cost. 🤦‍♂️

Really sorry to hear about this. It sucks. I purchased an e92 n54 335i last week at 17 for my first car, worked my ass off for it. I just wanted to let you know that you were a big influence on that. It’s amazing to see how far you’ve come. I’ve been here since 1.2k. This alternator failure sucks, but I hope all goes good with it!

Long story here but I just had this happen on the highway and the coolant expansion tank blew up while I was trying to get to a safe location. I'm assuming something happened as far as my water pump turning off or getting too much voltage. Not 100% sure as my dcan cable stopped working recently and I'm waiting for the bimmergeeks bluetooth dongle thing to arrive so no codes yet. I'm relocating the expansion tank (going ST soon), replacing the battery and alternator so I don't have to mess with it again soon. Also in case it's shot I've got a new water pump sitting around that I was waiting to put in with the new turbo. Anyone feel free to spit some wisdom my way incase there's something I'm missing.

Alternator can go out on any car. No need to hate a BMW/German brand if they ever go out. Some people...

Most BMW alternators are rebuildable... just replace the brush inside and 90% of the times... thats the issue... I need to take mines out and rebuild it and in the process lololols

If you see idrive shuts off u know that means

same shit on my 535 so stupid bmw , so many codes for bad alternator , code for water pump , trans not shifting , but not one code for alternator ! end up changing water pump for nothing , trans fluid for nothing ! got 2 beemer , z4 and 535xi , selling both for Lexus !
