MINE DID THIS TOOOOO! But it made my Indigenous America’s and Mexico switched to Northern America mostly Canada and also went up and it added Siberia BUT THEN I HAD LIKE 25% German and it went down to 10% 😭

Went through the same thing first results were in line of what my DNA then they were almost 54 percent different. Also my DNa relatives lined up in the first results then second results wiped out my paternal relatives! I called Ancestry for help for really no help! I would like to send in another test to see if they line up! I am totally confused!

Wow! That is wild. 54% is a massive change!

Haha! I bet that was a fun convo with the family 😅 one of my close friends found out that she and her TWIN sister have different dads via an Ancestry test 😬

never heard of that happening. From what i seen once you have DNA matches they don't go nowhere. They did however change it so that people with less then 8CM don't show up if i'm not mistaken.

Maybe the Scottish is so low because some of your ancestors who you thought were Scottish in fact have / had more English DNA than what they did Scottish , I did an ancestry DNA thing recently and for example I have family who were from N Ireland . But it comes up as Scottish because going back in time there was a lot of Scottish colonisation / migration within that region of Ireland. A similar situation may have occurred within your tree were there may have been English migration up to Scotland , therefor showing up as majority English DNA. Who knows

That is cool that they keep you up to date. 8ve been thinking about doing mine but these days there are other things that require my money and attention unfortunately.

Ancestry only fairly recently separated Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the results. In the new updates my Scottish went from 42%, my highest percentage, down to 15% a huge decrease so I think they're still trying to figure things out and I'm not really going to focus too much on percentages until it settles a bit and doesn't fluctuate so wildly in every update. If your 2x great-grandfather was your only Scottish ancestor though you'd probably have a pretty low Scottish percentage anyway, I mean we all have sixteen 2 x great grandparents so realistically he'd only be 1/16th of your DNA so around 6.25%.

A short skim sees several people saying a company adjusting results is a thing and continues to be a thing. And it is, minor or not. Another details that it is _not_ precisely true after one's parents that one gets half each step back. The exact percentage can vary just because the system itself randomizes a bit each step after parents. So any % can vary among siblings about 5% among second and further generations back. This doesn't even get into exceptions - look up calico cats and why they are all female. But your clue last video of finding actual relatives back on your father's side is indeed a pretty solid hit. The same kind of thing can work as you go back further, but only where the data holds up. But there's another whole thing. Placing people in places, knowing x really lived in y is part of it - borders shift all the time - but it goes deeper than that. Check out videos of David Reich about 'white' people more than 5k years ago (everything Ancestry etc does tries to speak to no more than 1000k years ago except for haploid groups.) Also David and group did work in India, South America, and Africa especially northwest Africa. Actual published studies. There are _no_ groups (races, whatever you want to call them,) who are 'the same' over a >5k year scale. The start of this is to say there were no 'white' people before 5k years ago (if we go from modern definitions of 'white'.) But that's just the tip. The people we call of any 'race' are NOT linked directly to people of the place or by migration to other people from around the same lengths of time. We _always_ blended and across more than 5 or so k years _no_ 'people' are any much more related to those around a place than others. Certainly by 10k years gap we all just mingled. We really are one race and our diversity is a short term phenomena of genetic variation. The same goes for other groups. It turns out the 'white' are the closest living 'race' to the Native American over 5k years back because we both descended from an inbetween group. The part of that group that went west across Asian into Europe mingled with the people that were there and others that arrived from Anatolia and those _three_ groups destinctly made the 'whites' of Europe. Very literally at least one of the groups was dark skinned before. But the other side of that earlier group that went east is the one that crossed the Bearing Sea and became the main part of Native Americans. But David does also show evidence some Native Americans came from Australasia and there is physical evidence of Native Americans from >20k years ago in the US (not just the more common evidence

oh Cindy, of course I picked this video of yours to watch first. oh where do I begin... depending on how far back in time you go depends on your results, as you said your great grandfather was from Scotland (in his time of life) but where was his ancestors from, because way, way back no one lived in England, Ireland or Scotland. so this is where it gets fun, finding out where the people of Scotland migrated from, could have been Italy, could have been Prussia. so the more people that get their DNA done, the more info there is and then more pieces of the big puzzle gets found. I've been a genealogist for 41 years.

Really?! That is amazing! The science astounds me! Really at the end of the day, I am just glad I got my sneaky pants DNA test to confirm my father is indeed the man I know. The rest is just funsies. I am looking forward to getting to know my paternal great grandparents better their story is like a fairytale! One day I hope to do a video on them they were SO cool.

The DNA will be right but the ethnic groups changes all the time. So compare DNA mostly.
@Jgab602
@Jgab602 2 года назад
That wasn't a big chance at all! What basically happened is that, if you see in the map and click on the ethnicity the England and Northwestern Europe it goes from Scotland and Wales all the way to France, what that means is that these ethnicities overlap a bit so when more research is done they are able to pinpoint better where that overlap is, hope this helps! Also a grandfather is around 25% of DNA and each great equals to half of the previous one, so a great great-grandfather would be ROUGHLY 6%
