Hey, Future Skitty...amazingly concentrated & useful content. Thank you so much. I’m starting to discern (after 1000 RU-vid videos on animation) that the smaller channels have the deepest stuff. Appreciate you throwing the numbers in...anyone who wants to produce is hungry for that info & the timeframe. You’re smart, experienced, talented & wryly hilarious. ✌️🍷🎩🎩🎩

Thanks for this. I have been hearing more and more professionals say they don't use step mode for block out. I guess the key to blocking in spline is to make sure you don't accidentally key at the wrong places.

Are the refrences taken only to make key poses
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates 4 года назад
It depends on what you're going for with your shot. If you want your animation to look like the reference, it can also be used for your timing and breakdowns. If you want a more cartoony feel to it, it's better to only take the key poses and then play around with the timing yourself.

When you explained the "twitching" of the eyeballs for the purpose of scanning your surroundings, i had the idea to make characters purposefully break eyecontact. So just softly looking into another direction or next to their head for about a second. I always do this to feel a little more comfortable or not to stare. I don't think those two are the same thing right? Curious about thoughts. Ill probably try this in addition to what you just taught me. Great tutorials :D

loved this! hey is there an specific order for animating the controls? for example I see there are two controls for the hips but I've never really understood when to use which. Thank you so much for your videos.
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates 3 года назад
Thanks so much! As for the controls, if there's more than 1 control on a specific thing like the hips, try to stick to 1 or the other as much as possible. Usually they'll be laid out so one control is inside of another control, so you'd pick the 'main' one, which is the big one on the outside. If you do all of your motion on one control, it'll be a lot cleaner/easier to manage in the graph editor, plus it leaves a control fresh if you need to go in and add a secondary motion later. Hope that makes sense!
@karischan7

I do animations using iClone 7.9 but I've always wondered, uh, Please answer this very important question: Should I give the character a "VOICE" first? Or Should I "ANIMATE" first, and then add Voice? Which Order is recommended? Thanks, Terry P.S. for now I use the voice first approach so that I can move the character later cause iClone adds the lip movements automatically.
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates Год назад
Voice first 100%. Having the pacing/inflection of the dialogue will set the tone of the entire shot, your animation should be a reflection of that.

I want to ask you one more question; When i am animating with refrence the problem is that i could only pose from the perspective of the refrence and in result camera will be at the place where the refrence's camera is at,so i want to know tip about posing a character from all perspective,not just from the perspective of the refrence,and maintain line of action from all the different angle
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates 4 года назад
That's a good question! Even when you're posing from reference, you need to keep a perspective viewport open to see how that pose works in 3D space. If you make sure the character is balanced properly and the line of action carries through on other angles while you're posing, changing up the camera after you're done with your reference won't be as big of an issue. At this point you would simply change it to the camera angle you want, and tweak the bodies line of action to favor the camera. If your set-up is clean it shouldn't be more than opening up the body, or moving an arm out of silhouette etc.

Hi skiity! I absolutely loved this video! But I am kinda confused on how you did your pose to pose and then polished it in the graph editor, I read the comments and I saw you were saying that you used spline and not stepped, could you explain to me the difference? Please and thank you :)
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates 3 года назад
Hey! Glad you enjoyed it :) Spline & stepped are types of tangents in the graph editor. When your keys are set to stepped, the visual playback keeps your pose static until it hits the next key. In spline, Maya will calculate its own in between and drift each key into the next. Some people like to work in stepped so they only see what they've made, but I prefer spline so I can add information on top of what Maya tries to make for me. Does that make sense? If not let me know :)

@@SkittyAnimates That was very helpful!! I appreciate your reply! I have one more question do you have any videos on floaty animation? I am trying to learn 3D but it is quite difficult for me, My animation always looks so floaty and I cannot figure why, I have been researching but still having issues.
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates 3 года назад
I'm glad it made sense! I don't have a video at the moment about floaty animation.. but I will say it all comes down to timing. Add more in betweens so that they favour one side or the other. Floaty animation typically means you have 'even timing', meaning everything moves at the same rate, which looks both boring and unnatural. If you look up some timing charts, there's lots of good ones out there!

Hi there, rotating all axis at once is the same as rotating one axis at a time, you just make sure you're clicking the rotate manipulator without touching any specific axis. You have to be careful rotating this way though, it's easier to get gimbal lock!

Great video and really helpful! I also have a question that doesnt have to do with with the video's topic but i would like to ask. Would you recommend going to Animation Mentor to study animation ? Or going to a traditional uni ?
@SkittyAnimates
@SkittyAnimates 4 года назад
I honestly can't recommend either of them because I don't have any experience with Animation Mentor OR with traditional universities. All I can say, is that I went to a private college that charged way too much money, for information I probably could have learned over the internet! The only useful thing I got from them was a Diploma (the paper helps land jobs). The only recommendation I can make is to look up testimonials for the schools you're interested in, and read both the good and the bad. Also look at where those students ended up. If half of them aren't even working in the industry, it might not be the best education. Sorry I can't help more than that but it's a big decision that only you can make!

Depends on the shot, really. Sometimes I have a clear vision or reference of what I want the shot to look like, and sometimes I treat it like a canvas, experimenting as I go to find what's appealing. There will be tweaking regardless though, to compensate for a rigs limitations.
