My apology to Sinead O'connor (sorry about the cricket! it didn't sound that loud in "real life"!)

My apology to Sinead O'connor, this a sincere apology, it is too little too late but sadly it took her death to make me reflect on her life and to realize that I didn't take her seriously many years ago when I should have. I'm sorry about the annoying cricket, it didn't sound that loud when I was recording so please listen to the end before you comment and use subtitles if necessary. #theywalkamongstus

I remember Sinead from parties back in the day. She was ballsy, funny and very direct. Her experience with her mother was similar to mine and I loved the way she spoke up about it. Mother’s can break their children but Sinead only got stronger from what she experienced. I hope she’s finally at peace.

No way. You're Irish? My mother was a saint. I can't relate. My Da a famous musician, still nothing like her suffering. Listened to her book, made me feel like vomiting. Hurt by a relative, equals the same CPTSD. Nonetheless Shane is gone too soon, Sinéad too. Now ye want to pretend that ye didn't call her "Crazy". As Ice Tea says "If you scared, go to church". Adults are talking. Too many b*%ch ass Irish these days. Makes me sick.

@@keidwynAre you Irish? I didn't know much about Sinead O'Connor but I've heard her song Nothing Compares To You. I was shocked and disgusted by what abuse she suffer because of her evil mother. I'm not Irish or Catholic but I know she was a very brave woman. In the name of the father? I'm showing my ignorance but is that to do with Jesus? My grandmother was Catholic and that church shames good Catholics. I remember her on TV wearing a Tee shirt with I Blame The Parents on it. So do I. I don't owe her any apology but what I've learnt in life people hate the living but that all changes when they die. I don't believe in role models but she is a woman who I can believe in. Speaking the truth is hard especially when it's truth people don't want to hear or accept. The woman had guts.

@@charlottelouise209 Hi no I'm Australian but my mothers family were all Irish and my mum was placed in a catholic institution when her mum died at an early age .I can say that Sinead had no issue with God or Jesus but she did have an issue with the Church as an institution, the Vatican is its own city with its own bank and wields a lot of power the world over .Sh was young and as she aged so did her ways of expression injustice ,sadly for her her "growing and healing was amplified through her public attacks on the "evil" of the world the greed and the abuse of children via the peadophiles who were being protected by the pope .I think her passion for all beings to not suffer was very real but its wa also personal as she was abused, this made it appear a little conflicting to the public yet at the end of the day she was a woman of great courage ,a huge heart and a fragility we can all relate too .Loosing her child to suicide must have been horrendously devastating and she wanted to go home to be with him .

I was in my late-20's when that SNL episode aired. I live on the West Coast, so we got the edited version when it was broadcast. I didn't hear about it until the next day, and never actually saw the clip until a couple days later. The stories about the Church were widespread in the States around that time, so, as a Catholic, I was glad to see someone speaking out against that which was tolerated under the guise of "in-house policing." Sinead was canceled before cancel culture was normalized. Our impotence and ignorance silenced a voice we needed to listen to and encourage. Sinead, a lot of us _were_ listening...thank you. Rest in power...

Her childhood and her religious conditioning was another layer of abuse and pain . Through her music she evoked buried emotions that needed healing. She was diminutive in size but she packed a punch with truth and openness that may have proved uncomfortable for many. Love this! By '92 I was in my late teens. Having turned my back on the Cathoic church I too was shocked while I watched Sinead live. I had this immediate punch to the gut knowing that the repercussions were going to be bad, and although I disliked the pope I had a hard time believing what she was saying. She was ahead of her time but by the time lots of us realsied her truth Sinead was struggling alone with the trauma of her past. I followed her over the last 10 years as she battled her mental health , her loneliness and feelings of being unloved. What you did here is more of what I wish to see elsewhere. Social media seems to be a buzz with many hollow tributes to Sinead.

She actually said in a later interview that she did not actually know the full extent of child abuse in the church but was just generally speaking out about the all pervasive oppressive system of control the chruch had in general in Ireland. She said she had read some bits in a newspaper article about parents who had complained to the chruch but they had been dismissed and ignored. I'm not sure whether she even knew the full extent of the abuse on such a systemic scale and worldwide and the cover up within the church.I heard her say this in an interview but it still doesn't take away that she was calling out the chruch and its message on guitl and shame and control of people and their sexuality particularly women of course. I also think she expereinced the shunning again when she talked openly about her mental health and this was yet another thing for her to be "made fun of"and dismissed and invalidated and I feel like in her later years this eas somehting which really took its toll on her,she talked about having mental health struggles as "having to walk down the road with two broken legs pretending you didn't have two broken legs".The calling her crazy and making out like she no longer knew what she was talking about etc or even her religious conversion were always reasons to doubt her validity or credibility. It seems like anyone but particularly women who speak up against the general "consensus"that is usually created thorugh media storms and lies or talks out against the ststus quo comes up against the kind of villification that Sinead did. She went thorugh hell and not just because she was battling with her own demons but because other people made her life hell by making her feel as if she was crazy".She was wrongly diagnosed with bipolar when it was in fact complex trauma as it is I believe with many given these labels. That woman deserved so much more respect and love than she ever got although there has always been a strong contingent who knew what she was talking about and loved her for her honesty and courage and fierceness. I really think many of us are still in shock and feel so saddened that she is gone and even though she struggled I believe she truely wanted to live so badly and still had so much she would have liked to have said and done. I hope she can teach us more to be more brave and not so quick to judge and to reflect more on our own thought and how e arrive at them, and to look more inwardly at our own consciences and speak out when we need to.

“Her ideologies.” Fighting for fairness and equality isn’t an ideology, it’s a human right that all of us should have. Racism; still a problem. Women rights and choices; Still a problem. Child abuse/sexual/physical/emotional; still a huge problem. War; still a problem. Homophobia; still a problem. Those examples go beyond the fascist right leaning culture wars that have impounded over us this past decade. If you can’t see it now, you never will. If we continue on the backward trajectory that this world is heading in, then women will be forced back into the homes, gay people back into the closets, child abuse will still continue alongside the mass trafficking of children. All of our rights worldwide are being stripped away and the religious right have lobbied for it, paid for it and created a vacuum where even those that did lobby for it will also have theirs stripped too and it will be them in the vacuum will cause a war in the world that none of us will be able to contain.

I am very sorry you and your sisters went through that, to be clear I have no tolerance for anyone that mistreats children in anyway. When I said I didn't mean to offend Christians or Catholics I meant the ones who are far removed and against any type of abuse, personally I am completely detached from any type of organized religion and have been for a long time.

🌺 it’s takes introspection and courage to apologize to others. 🕊️ a boulder is off your shoulders and you have the admiration of people that heard this. HEAR, HEAR, HEAR ! A man of integrity just spoke 🕊️

I was in my 20’s when Sinade tore up the picture, and I was very surprised when everyone went against her, she was standing up for something and if everybody would’ve given her a chance, maybe they could’ve seen what she was standing up for. Now she’s dead and it’s to late to let her knw how powerful she really was. 😢

Thank you, sir! Sinead helped the Irish, and all Catholics worldwide, to think critically and use the discernment, that the Church keeps talking about, even when it comes to criticizing the Church itself ....

RIP precious Angel . I love her version the song she performed " Nothing Compares to you" it is more heartfelt especially because she was pouring out her feeling toward her abusive mom after she passed away in a car accident when Sinéad was a young. What sucks is that her dad turned out to also abuse her . This is why she was a strong voice and went after Child Abusers😢🦋❤

@Irishmothertrucker well said and some of us have less trauma, same, worse, and our brains take it in and we learn how to survive ~from there it is who we are & hopefully if your living the best way and healthy not being self-destructive to self or others then know each hour of each day is a day of learning ~ peace to you and yours ~ 💚
