I have one, but I hike the AT and I haven't taken it yet. There is alot if tree cover on the AT where I think the PCT is more exposed. I always end up leaving it. Maybe one day I'll just take it.
I'd suggest an extra bottle cap, never know when you'll drop one and step on it, or lose it while collecting water. Throw it in your hygiene or repair kit bag, oh, and have a repair kit.
I have a terrible time not breaking the tops off those lids. Flipping them open and closed over and over and that thin piece of plastic breaks and then that part doesn’t stay on at all.
The video was made just for show. Most of these people that put out these kind of videos don't do what they say they are doing. Most of their hiking and backpacking videos are scripted and embellished.
I know that those lighters are cheaper but trust me when you're out there it's worth it to have a Bic with the safety taken off! Like someone else mentioned as well a Ferro rod can do no wrong. Happy hiking
@@eitanpaster5692half of the instances that your lighter doesn’t work, it’s because the flint has gone. Then you’re in a pickle! Definitely bring a spare something, sparkers are so light and small
You are totally living the best life. I love that you paint on the way. That is my dream but for the at trail. Happy painting my friend. I know it’s not your channel thin but please show your painting sometimes in your videos. I would love to see it. I love my Art tool kit palette. What do you think about it. 😊
From someone who had the same backpack: get a different one, with load lifters. It gave me a lot of shoulder pain because the frame is basically useless without load lifters
@@Andy-Mesa last year there was a almost 16 mile stretch in the beginning without water, I ran out about 3 miles from Moreno lake. The longest 3 miles of my life.
As always it's a personal choice. But what I've found is that most people that want an umbrella want to keep the sun off, primarily their head and shoulders. This means they have insufficient head cover. If people want to carry them I see no issue but I make better miles without messing with an umbrella and just wear a booney hat and good sunscreen. Umbrellas do come in handy when stationary though. Nothing like sitting in the blazing sun eating lunch and wishing you were under cover. For the PCT since you start in the spring, usually in NM, you have the coolest days in the hottest and most open areas so I suppose an argument can be made you don't really need it at all.
Here's a tip: gas canister goes into the cup cup can go into a billy can a french coffee press can fit the billy can exactly I bring a primus stove and can make fresh coffee with the french coffee press and takes little space due to the nesting system
you just need to safe up some money and quit your job or have an arrangement with your employer. The PCT usually takes around 6-7 Months, but you have very few fixed expenditures. You can do this easily with $10-12k
Plenty of people figure it out. I guess it depends on your job. If you don’t want to lose it and can’t take the time off that’s different than having saved up enough money to quit and then find a job when you get done. Folks figure it out.
Dixie has a sun umbrella and she loves it. There are so many shade less stretches in the desert that having her own shade will be awesome. I’d say, she might mail it home at Kennedy meadows. You know, when she’s done with the desert. 😂
Ditch the pack cover and use a trash bag as a liner for your pack. Keep in mind CA has once again had record snowfall in the mountains. Make sure you have the proper gear for the conditions.
I'd be taking another external battery. Also I'd definitely get a pack liner instead of a pack cover. Pack covers don't keep your stuff dry that well at all.
Food? Tent? Sleepingbag? Warm cloths? All the essential stuff that keeps you alive is missing but you have a lot of totally useless stuff like a notebook, watercolors or an umbrella with you???
Are you taking fitness tracker? If so any recommendations? Best wishes. I’m not quite ready the entire trail as of yet but plan on doing about 1000m. Thanks for the packing list. Very helpful❤
Not too different than most kits nowadays; it looks solid and set. 😁. Not a criticism at all, I just find it funny we have all traded comfortable “heavy” slerping pad weight for rechargeable batteries. Hats off withbmuch respect to anyone thst sleeps comfortably on a Thinlight. 😬. I understand why, it just strikes me as funny when in the 80s and 90s we carried batteries and luxurious Thermarests. ✌️
The burner needs to be able to turn on at high elevation and in the wind and cold. MSR and Jetboil have their own version but of windproof. I myself just bought a .5 liter Primus Lite and it is compact and windproof.
