It didn't end well, been in the hospital ever since and can't move from the neck down. Tragic huh?

Actually, Arabs have traditionally detested owls. Israel now has a program to promote biological rodent control/reduction of pesticide use using barn owls and kestrels. It's been a huge success and now Jordanian and Palestinian farmers are learning about this and changing their minds about the owls. "In the Middle East, the dove has been replaced by the barn owl and the kestrel as ambassadors of peace."

This video made me realise just how similar the two species are in a way.. Both stealth masters with wide eyes that don’t allow for much rotation but are highly adapted to night vision, they hunt the same prey, have similar calm/quiet temperament but can also produce the most demonic sounds known to man, have great patience which is linked to forward thinking and intelligence. that doesnt mean they want to play... i thought the same thing when my cat did that and tried to play with it... then it bit me :-\ turns out that position is either a sign of trust or a warning that all defense mechanisms ( claws, teeth, etc.)will be engaged if you try to touch it anywhere near the stomach... :-\
My Parents That's also true... cats, either small house or big wild, tend to fight from below so to speak... in this position they can use all four clawed legs while delivering bites at the same time. This kitty looked like she just wanted to play, though. But one can never be 100% sure about their intentions.

I've always loved how clueless birds look all the time. I own two budgies and they always look confused by everything I do, even if it is changing their food or putting them to bed.
Also, they can only turn their head 270 degrees. And they have lots of bones in their neck to be able to turn their head that far. And every time they turn their head blood vessels take different routes.
I know that there are strict laws about Barn Owls. It's illegal just to own one of their feathers. If you find one that has perished on the side of a road, you are not even supposed to touch it. It seems a shame too. Because some type of wild animal is just going to come along and drag the carcass to the desert, and destroy it's beautiful feathers. I think that someone should be able to pick up the owl and bring it to a museum and let them decide if they want to preserve it's beauty, in an Natural History Museum somewhere. But our Government says, "Don't touch. or else, we will fine you out the wazoo". Seems like such a waste of natures natural beauty.
The law is for any bird of prey. Problem is the authorities hve no way of telling if you got the feathers due to a road kill or hunting it. Mute point thogh as this video was not in the US.

No, but someone did and at a young age so as to raise it by hand... Barn owl numbers are dwindling in the wild because people are destroying their homes and taking hatchlings from their nests to raise as pets... I love barn owls and would love to have one as a pet but it is cruel and I would rather there be some in the wild for my daughter to enjoy...
Rachel Harper I can't believe how stupid you people are... it's in the name of the goddamn animal BARN OWL. They have adapted to living in people's barns, sheds, and other human structures. Not only that but you fail to think that maybe this owl was a rescue and cannot survive in the wild on it's own anymore. If you're gonna be a fucking hippie, at least be a smart one.

Cat trying to sneak up, owl quickly turned to the cat; what's up bro!?! You wanna go!?! The cat quickly realized he can't sneak up toward the owl, the owl got the upper hand in this game, so the cat lied down and showned its tummy to the owl, whenever an animal does that in nature it basically meants: oh shit you got me good, I got nothing on my hand, ill stop resisting, you can do anything to me daddy. But the owl never trusted the cat, and cat just stays there waiting for approval. The funny thing is, cats are usually the one who doesn't trust people and force others to wait for its approval. This is like a animal version of love/hate power balance relationship. So much thing can happen within a minute.
Atsuko Hashimoto have you even researched it? Although belly exposure is generally a positive thing, it can point to defensiveness in a cat, too. If a cat is in a frightening or otherwise threatening situation and feels he has no way out, he may assume a belly-up position as a technique for taking full advantage of all of his defensive tools, in particular retracted claws. When a cat is in this state of heightened protectiveness, he's certainly not feeling cuddly. Be on the lookout for growling and hissing, other hints of defensiveness.
