I have noticed a certain tendency among people learning languages that they like to 'jump from flower to flower'. The point is that the beginnings of learning a language are very simple, exciting and pleasant. Difficulties begin after a few 2-4 months. Suddenly we start to notice that the language is no longer so exciting and that it can become a bit boring. Frustration is growing due to subsequent grammar rules. That's why some people want to feel that thrill again and start learning another language. I happily stayed with one language. I have been learning Chinese for 14 months now. It's a very nice feeling to go back to the first months and see how much progress I have now made. In a month I will take the HSK4 exam, passing it will be a very nice summary of my learning.

Super useful tips and yet another well presented video, Eliza! Most importantly, I like the fact you emphasized the importance of shadowing technique and how it makes the learning of a language and its acquisition for a learner particularly easier and advantageous. I'm also of the same opinion as you, that it's better to concentrate on one language and get good at it to the point of fluency rather than overburdening with too many languages at once. There's no denying that some people defo have got the talent and may like to dive into multiple languages simultaneously but for me a far more simple yet effective strategy would be to focus on just one language and learn it thoroughly until I could express myself confidently and then take up other languages if interested. In my case, my target language has always been French.

Glad you liked the video! I think you're right that a good time to pick up other languages is once you can confidently express yourself.

Very nice video, and very interesting insights!! Thank you for sharing!! I also really agree with the last point, it's very difficult to learn multiple languages, I think it's better for most people to focus only on one language.

Thank you for the video! I've been very lazy recently with shadowing but you've inspired me to pick it up again. I love watching videos of people who are in a higher intermediate / advanced level of their language learning, so would love to see a detailed video of what your goals are and what you are doing with french at the moment (but of course no pressure). (edit) Ooops sorry I just saw your "How I'm Learning French" video. Still, I'm interested in learning about your goals and how they've changed over time. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the comment! Really glad you liked the video and have found it useful. I've definitely thought about doing a more in-depth video on how I specifically got to B2 in French. I did touch on a lot of the techniques in the How I'm Learning French video, but I think I could probably go over more details about my earlier progress too and how my goals have changed over time. Food for thought! 😊

@@elizasnotes Thank you for your reply! As someone who is an intermediate learner, I'm particularly interested in where you plan to go from here, and how you might be changing your study method as you get more advanced (rather than the journey from beginner to intermediate, im interested in the movement from intermediate to advanced). Of course, this is just because that's what revelevant to me, I'm excited to watch your next video no matter the content.

I'm watching your video to practice my daily English, hahaha. Thanks :p. I have trouble with English. I don't know why, but it's very difficult for me. Even though it's easier than French (which I'm fluent in) and Portuguese (my native language), I still have trouble with it. PS: I use Grammarly at this moment 🤣
