When I big chopped it was so fucking liberating! Flash forward to today my hair has never been longer and healthier. I’m all natural, no relaxer, no color and I couldn’t be happier I feel more beautiful and confident having long natural hair. The big chop was the first step! Enjoy your healthy hair journey sistah!

yes! welcome to the natural hair journey! i chopped off my hair back in 2018 and it was at the same length your hair was at, now its 2020 and my hair is that bra length, i do my own treatments, my own cuts, and i’ve even COLORED my hair and my curls are still bouncy and beautiful 3b/3c - you got this beautiful! i recommend a lot of moisturizing and defining products when its that short, my hair was FRIZZY and i had no idea - and finger coiling is great! it helps hair growth too. One tip I would give is to stop pulling your hair so tight. I notice when you finger coil, you pull the hair so tight on your scalp. Maybe try holding the hair at the root with one hand and then twist right with the other hand so it doesn’t get the tension. And when combing your hair with your hands/fingers, you pull really hard too. Being gentle is key! But you look great!!!!

love your hair! your hair will really flourish after the big chop. i went natural in august 2019 and transitioned by doing protective styles. I big chopped my relaxed ends in august of this year and my hair is growing even more! good luck with your natural hair journey.

Yasss Kayla you are going to love your twa. Best decision ever, now you can put all your energy and focus on your natural hair and not hair your going to cut off anyway. Give it a year of love and care and your hair is going to thrive. I actually miss my tiny Afro now 😩 literally cut my hair Sophomore year of college. I had braids in for two months and when I decided to take them out I was just like you know what I’m just going to cut them off, people thought I went crazy🤣🤣🤣

Congrats on the big chop. Been natural 12+ years now. I would be lying if I told you I haven't had regrets but it was the best decision I have ever made regarding my hair. Now if I get my health and together I would good.

When I transitioned, it took my hair a month to get back to “ponytail-snatchable” 🤣. It was the tiniest janky ponytail BUT it was juuuuust long enough for me to wear a drawstring bun. That was my GO TO!! At the time, I did have to pin up the back of my hair bc some pieces were still too short...wow...that’s crazy to think. It will grow back before you know it!!

remember that you can definitely always have a protective style! there’s so many different ways to install a wig too if you don’t like glue! also, it’s gonna grow back lol! and i strongly recommend getting hair stuff from an actual beauty supply store (NOT SALLYS). chain stores like target are sometimes black girl natural hair friendly. i’m sure there’s a lot of them around you.

My recommendation is to find someone who is deva certified but MAKE sure they don’t try to put deva curl products in your hair. So don’t go to a deva salon but you can search for stylists that specialize in curly cuts

I saw your post on Instagram and thought did she chop off her hair but I didn’t want to assume anything and then you upload the big reveal. Girl you look good and I mean that with true sincerity. I am so happy you listened to yourself and did what was best for you. It will be a whole lot easier to do your hair it will take you less time. Great thing about having short hair. Your hair will grow out evenly and will get its body and thickness. 😁😍💖

It's really cute. It reminds me a little of Tia Mowry's. No more worrying about the hassle of maintaining transitioning hair. I did my own big chop and then got it shaped the next day. I cut some areas too short because some of my hair has a looser texture so there wasn't a defined line of demarcation. I would say just chill and enjoy this length for a while. I was so ready for mine to grow, I didn't truly embrace it.

SO proud of you! I would do a big chop, buttt most of my hair is healthy and I'm only allowed to do a few inches once a month because my mom doesn't want me to cut all my hair off- it's just the ends that have damage. I'm almost there though- been cutting for 6 months now.
