In September 2018, a small group of us opened up a non-profit vegan restaurant in London called Unity Diner. Through opening the restaurant we wanted to show off how delicious vegan food is, but at the same time also use the money generated to open up an animal sanctuary. Two years later it feels amazing to say that we have successfully managed to do just that, and I am so thrilled that the Surge Sanctuary is now a reality. But we couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone who has worked at Unity Diner, eaten at Unity Diner and supported the work that myself and the Surge team do. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to all of you who have been a part of this journey so far. We already have a group of residents who have settled in and are getting used to lounging around, eating lots of delicious food and most importantly, living their lives without being harmed or exploited. And we can’t wait to keep growing the sanctuary and welcoming more and more animals so that they too can live the life that they deserve to live. Thank you so, so much for everything, and I hope that you enjoy this video ❤️ Follow our journey on IG: @thesurgesanctuary Check out our website, let us know if you're able to help out & join our mailing list: surgesanctuary.org Make my work possible by becoming a supporter of my activism here (thank you!): www.earthlinged.org/support Make the switch to vegan & get all of the support you need: switchtovegan.co.uk FREE 122 page e-book: www.earthlinged.org/ebook
@Joanne Noanne No country take refugees for free. They will either get compensated from the new government or recruit those people as cheap labor. Not to mention improving their image to the human rights organizations and getting that attention. They will broadcast it everywhere and even get interviews from refugees thanking the country that saved them and possibly attacking their old government if it's an enemy of that country. Nothing is done without incentive and possible future reward or avoidance of harm.
@@MrSingh1150 you could start one instead of expecting others to do it. You’re to busy sitting on your arse playing video games though aren’t you , little boy.
I'm a meat-eater, I wish I could be vegan, but there's no opportunity for me since I'm 15 year old and my whole family are meat-eaters, this video made me entranced :).
@@jeannedarc7533 Hey there! I was just like you as a teenager, fortunately my parents undetstood my motives and supported me short before I turned 18, but if I can give you a piece of advice is try to learn how to cook well, so you can be more involved in making meals for the family and bring up as many vegan recipes as possible. Hang in there ❤
Visited Surge this weekend to volunteer! We had a great time and were even able to help rescue a poorly lamb and bring her back to the sanctuary. A wonderful experience.
it's possible other vegans are down voting also as a critique. Surge/Unity/Ed have considerable income, so for the sanctuary to be asking for donations could have monopolising affects on sanctuaries already in existence whom face constant financial challenges. another sanctuary is great of course, but it's just something important to keep in mind.
That's beautiful and amazing news Ed! Congrats on this awesome achievement, hopefully the whole world starts respecting and valuing all animals someday soon.
It is a great benevolent project that deserves recognition. Calling this sanctuary the closest to what we had to a utopia is a bit of a stretch, though it is a step in the right direction. And I know you're probably exaggerating, but I'd try not to rely on one person to determine your world view.
When the logo popped up at :18 my eyes started tearing up with joy. I’m SO happy for you, Ed & SO happy for all the animals that will now have a good life BECAUSE OF YOU GUYS. My heart is so full hearing this news. Thank you for making 2020 much better
This guy made me view the world differently. I wish I can be an activist like him but I have a whole different dream. So man continue the good job and I hope many people will realise their mistakes and......
"You can't deny the basis of why we should be vegan. These animals are alive, they feel, they are sentient, they're conscious. They are experiencing life. They deserve moral consideration that places their worth of life far higher than the arbitrary and non-sensical reasons we find to exploit them" - Ed
I'M SO HAPPY YOU'VE TURNED THIS DREAM INTO A REALITY! Congratulations and thank you for everything you've done for the animals and continue to do. And I'm all for the education center and school field trips. I think that's a lovely idea!
Thank you Earthling Ed and congratulations! What an extraordinary accomplishment! I'd love to visit and volunteer some day. Thank you for the love and care you show to Gods precious innocent animal creation.
So beautiful I am crying, thank you Ed, so much for not only raising your voice for those who can't but for creating a new home for those loving creatures!
And those animals wouldn't be there if it wasn't for you so thank you, and you forgot the most important thing, can we donate directly to the sanctuary?
THIS IS SO COOL!!! I didn't think I could find any hope for this year, but this is such an incredible place for the future, I'm so excited for the journey of this haven.
Haven't watched the whole thing yet (obviously) but this is beautiful. Thank you so much for all the work you do. You're a big inspiration for many people, and the main reason I'm vegan.
Incredible news, well done! Very happy for you all, and for all the animals that will have the chance at a new life, free from harm. It brought me real joy to hear this news 😊 I hope to be able to lend a hand if I can, or at the very list pay a visit 😁 💚
Amazing, can't wait to visit. I've got 8 year's engineering experience in water management, flooding and habitat creation if that can be any help and have started a miniature nature reserve, rewilding and wildflower area. Wish all the best with this fantastic project
It's incredible how you've managed to progress as an organization. Having worked with animal advocacy for a while and knowing how hard and frustrating the work can be, it's just absolutely amazing to see how the iniatives you've started and goals you have set have continued to bear fruit. You must have a close team of true idealists working tirelessly together - which in itself is very hard to create. I think it would be both inspiring and very helpful for other activists around the world to get more of a look behind the curtain, meet the other people on the team, and see how all the machinery behind Surge works! Opening their own animal sanctuary must be the dream of every animal rights organization. Congratulations! You deserve a standing ovation.
I’m so happy to hear this great and wonderful news! Thanks to you and your team! I wish I could visit but leaving in Quebec, it’s a bit difficult to travel these days! I’m really happy for you! Bravo!
Why am I crying? 😄 🥺 This is HUGE ! Congratulations 😍 I´m so happy for this! Can't wait to see all the rescued animals and the progress on this sanctuary! ❤️
Congratulations on this!!!! It is so amazing! I admire you and your work deeply. I am vegan since 5 years, and you've been inspiring me all the way. I'm 51years old, and even you are very much younger than me, I feel so connected with you because of your words, your work and now this sanctuary!!!!! I'm very impressed. I hope one day I can come in the UK and visit you or work in this paradise!!! 😍 thank you so much for doing what you do!!!🙏
This is an amazing news I really want to open a sanctuary also here in France You are such an inspiring person and we should thank you because you have opened the eyes of so many of us Thanks to the Surge team and Unity dîner My heart is with you and I would love and visit and help
