Thank you so much for your work! I recently passed my medicine admission test and will soon start med school and your channel is very helpful! You not only give very good advice, but you actually show the day-to-day life and tasks of a doctor in detail. You are very inspiring and motivational, wish you the best of luck with your career and your life! 😊
Im surprised by the timing of this video for me , I was ruminating the same thing today . I was trying to run for that exam oriented mindset under a cloud of negativity but im glad that you invoked this stimulus. Kudos , Keep growing .
Also my idea of success is to better our each day better than yesterday and if you can pull that of you are successful. The domains being knowledge, religion , mental health , a hobby , travel ! keep evolving and exploring
I really appreciate your videos! I'm a current medical student and I'm really struggling to escape from "The goal is to be the best at exams" mindset - it's at the point now where I always want to leave placement early so I can go study, and I worry that talking to patients is costing me valuable time I could be doing practice questions. How do you get out of this mindset given so much of the medicine career pathway rewards this? I could be the most empathetic doctor and patients could love talking to me, but there's no points on specialty applications for that 😂
Louise that's a very real struggle we all face. It's not an absolute rule - sometimes going home to study a topic will be more beneficial than spending all day in hospital (unfortunately we often can't tell which days will be 'productive' in hospitals). And you're right, it doesn't feel like we reward soft skills enough (although pre-med school interviews/OSCEs etc are geared towards that). It's up to you. Try your best to keep this mindset of the end goal - exams will always be there but the aim is to use exams, and hospital days etc to become the best doctor you can be. All the best :)
