Experience hauling triple modules suggests enclosures for storage and stacking in the van is a topic all its own. After building the 'masterpiece' how to PROTECT it and prevent damage between home and the event.
Thank you for this video. I am going to look for that weathering kit at my Hobby Lobby! Also, I never thought about For Sale signs being used this way. Thank you for the idea. Have a great day!
Nice video Jimmy. Some of it is going back to basics which I think we all need from time to time. I liked the weathering of the ballast, it came out really well.
Love the triple. I built one of their doubles (bridge w/lighthouse) and I have a homemade quad that has a station and the city of Bozeman (goes with my homemade double of the Yellowstone Ranch). I also built two of their end caps as well. Love their product! ❤️❤️❤️
I didn't know you could make parking lots for model railroads with thin styrene, or even know For Sale signs were made from the material. Thanks for pointing this out :)
Thank you Jimmy, I have been waiting for this and I'm so glad you are able to work on it now. I have decided to build T-Trak modules for a home layout so this is very interesting and helpful. Will you at some point detail the track and turnout types? That would be helpful for sure :-)
Dear Jimmy, cool vid! Kinda like the fast forward T-trak edition. Love the way you did the tan ballast around the parking lot. Really makes it stand out and very believable. Not that I don’t like the color of the asphalt you went for, just humbly think even in N scale asphalt needs just a bit more shades. Love those JTT foliage ‘mats,’ they definitely make a difference and look great. Curious for the modules coming together! Cheerio
Very nice, Jimmy. Did I miss the episode where you addressed electrical connections between the modules? Or do you connect power/DCC to each module separately instead of daisy-chaining?
They're definitely a decent way. I know if you want to make something like a switching layout, you can possibly even use something akin to a filing cabinet to keep them in, and then take them out and put them together to get running. Our club has fashioned up a way to attach each one to power though, so make sure everything is consistant. Then if you want, you could add a staging yard. The hardest thing is a way to run both lines if you are following the standard. It wants you to switch "polarity" of the inside and outside lines, but if you're making your own modules and don't want the ability to run with others, then you can just put it together however you want.
Looks great! I shared a video on your Facebook post about it with my first set of double modules for my club's layout. I actually scratch built my first structure for it two, a small train station. Technically also the water tower in the background, but it is kind of rough right now and not completed based on the prototype. Thanks for sharing this! Oh! Thanks for the For Sale sign tip. I think that'll come in handy for a couple places on my layout. Does plastruct plastic weld work on it too? Could use it for large warehouse buildings along the back of the layout. As for roads, I still have been sticking to my smoothit. I like to get it down mostly white, maybe a bit of India ink in it, and then coat it in Varathane like Boomer mentions. Then I go over it with either IPA and India ink if I want it more gray, or if I want it more concrete, water and some lighter tan colors, let that dry, and cover it with more varathane. Have you tried Lou Sassi's ground goop? It's got a lot of parts to it, but it works really well in forming a base for trees and adding contour to a layout instead of just flat wood.
The Hobby Lobby weathering kit is a great find! Is it just me, though, or does it look like someone's blush kit? :-) Still great find and a good price!
Was wondering ,how many industries should a person start out with on a small layout,1-2 or more ,without getting overwhelmed with track and turnouts, keep up the great work
JImmy, you need one of my Ballast Spreaders. I am gearing up to start a business selling Model Railroad supplies and I have designed and created a ballast spreader. If you are interested in one let me know.
Have a quick question, thinking of doing somthing like your mrrone build, is there any reason I could reverse the back dead end track and move it to same side as the 2 warehouses are ,just curious was think it might be a good staging track for switching ,thanks
@DIYDigitalRailroad I've watched a lot of yours and a lot of others, and I still haven't purchased any scenery materials yet! I'm scared to purchase the wrong stuff 🤷♂️🤪. Or apply in the wrong order and not have what I need when I start. Excuses excuses😢
Understand completely why you do n scale, there is plenty of your ideas that cross over to other scales like HO. I use a lot of Natural items, such as Dirt, Sagebrush and other dried plants for scenery.
