What a great hubby to build you your very own barn, crafted from love and decorated with yarn, to give you your space and get out of your face. He’s clearly the best hubby to beat one that is kind and is so sweet. So enjoy your space, maybe take a little nappy or just invite your friends over to share a cup of happy.
I watched one of your ol videos the other day and thought to myself 'I won't what she's done with the red furniture' (can't remember the name). How lovely to be reminded of years gone by. It's such a lovely space. He did such a good job! X
Keep the blue chairs and repaint the hutch blue. This is a great space, little blue barn is a perfect name. I would do hanging baskets, less water running down the siding. If you put in a brick path and small patio in front would keep less dirt from being dragged in. Have fun!!
This is lovely. I think in time it would be great to finish the walls so that the space could turn into another kid bedroom once they get bigger. This space really allows your family to stay put in the community you love!
Mariiiiiiee! This is adorable! What a sweet thing for Ryan to do. I find something like this is so much more considerate than spending loads of money on stuff the person may or may not like. If I ever have a house with a garden, I'd love my own little blue barn! X
It’s so cute! If you wanted to brighten it up you could whitewash the inside that way you can keep some of the rustic charm but brighten it a bit. As far as rugs I might look into making a floor cloth. They aren’t fuzzy but they’re pretty and very cleanable. Or if you wanted to you could look into a linoleum remnant. That way the floor is nice and smooth and you don’t have to glue it down, you can just tack it in the corners and along the edge and it will stay. I agree that above the “fireplace” needs some art. It might be fun to do an abstract art project with the kids and hang it there. If you ever thought about finishing the walls, you should consider paneling; it’s come a loooong way since the 70’s and they now have ones that look like barnwood and shiplap. And it’s $10-20 for a 4x8 sheet. It’s also way easier to diy than drywall.
I love the idea of fabric banner's made from vintage sheets or paper flowers with the lights you already have up. Last idea from me is to paint just the ceiling beams that blue color or any color you like. It's such a fun space.
We live in a block of flats with no private outside space and so my bf did something similar on a much smaller scale in our garage and it’s just the best! We don’t have any electricity out there but we make do with battery powered fairy lights. This is giving me so much joy!
i would drape some cute fabric on the walls just to hide the chip board and beams it would really soften up your corner , hang a plant and make some shallow free standing shelves, maybe a vintage bar cartt and make it and afternoon tea station. you could still hang some art over the fabric by using ribbon and attaching the ribbon to the chip board beams at the top .

Wow! That little house is amazing! You should get people who come over to visitto paint/create some art work that you could put on the walls or have a chalkboard that the kids can doodle on!
It's so cute!! And the fact that it was power is top notch. I actually really like red and blue together! I think with some patterned throw pillows in red and blues and the right art on the wall (if you wanted), the red hutch and blue chairs will work together!! You should get a little cart-like table to put beside your big chair for all your tea needs!
Oh, Ryan just IS the best man in the world, we been knew that. What's adding one more set of superhuman skills and bout of thoughtfullness. What an amazing cozyhole of wonders!! I love all the little nooks of it, and the kids' "clubhouse" makes me yet again so jealous of their childhood! That red - uhh - I think you called it hutch? I'd just call it kredens lol - is such a beautiful piece, I'm so glad it gets its due appreciation again. I'm so happy for ya and also stop being so cute and perfect a family already, ugh. I don't think I have any substantial feedback, I'm too blown away by that space to come up with anything. All of your ideas seem great! I think adding those lil shelves (and also possibly filling some with books for easy access) and a kettle would basically round it out.

Such beautiful kids as well. Scarlett is a wonderful kid full of heart. I have a now 8 month old and I aspire to be a mother like you. You are so truly amazing, you deserve everything that is wonderful in the world. (P.s. the hutch was a place for Louise and Darcy as little puppets :P that video made me literally laugh out loud)
I couldn't agree more. Marie's "bits and clips" were the first time in my life I saw such a relationship is actually possible irl and I will never stop being grateful to them for that.
Got to put some wisteria outside, love it and smells so beautiful! Also a little mailbox so the kids can put letters and notes in. Then for peoples birthdays that where you could put their birthday cards
I love the red! I wouldn’t change the Louise cabinet and if you replace the chairs I would try and get something in a different colour but still mismatching because I think the colour combination is great! I thought that as well as shelves you could also get some of those cheap coat hooks and hand little plants/mugs/photo frames dotted around the walls. As well as something fabric like either a wall handing or embroidery to soften it!
That’s incredible!! I would definitely add a little coffee/tea/snack bar with maybe a little mini fridge. Maybe a little curtain for the kids loft area or even a beaded one. I’d probably want that seating area to have a bookcase for reading. Maybe a little pop down/stow away desk/lap table for crafty time. Definitely plants and lots of little built in shelves for treasures.

Aw, your very own tiny house! I love it, well done Ryan. I would definitely paint the walls and add some stencils, but that's just me. Maybe something inspired by your Hygge blog? I like Scandinavian style, and that would complement the style of the hut? Then you could do different colours upstairs chosen by the kids. Maybe frame some of your favourite photos and hang them up, or have bookshelf to create a reading nook :-)

I’m crying that was so sweet and such a nice space for you and your family to enjoy your outdoor homestead life of wonder. I’m with you on the papasan chair being 6’4” it’s one of the few furniture pieces I could curl up in. My brother has a giant circular swivel chair thing with his couch set and it’s magical.

I love your guys’ ideas. Only thing I would add is moving the fireplace. It would be a really good focal point for the seating area And guests could cosy up next to it in winter. :)
The only thing I would suggest for this wonderful and love-filled space is adding a doorknob or some way for the people to get out if accidentally shut in. Safety first! I'd also keep Louise and Darcy's apartment red! (But I'm sentimental that way. This was from back when I first found your channel through Louise.) Love your little blue barn and Ryan for being a spectacular human!
He's a keeper (but you knew that)! I love the hutch especially and the clubhouse is so cool. My first thought before seeing the inside was that it'd be super fun to hang up a pretty chandelier, even if it isn't functional, just for decor. But seeing it, I'm not sure that'll fit. I like what you and Kristi did with all the plants. Plant lady vibes!

I actually love the mismatch of colours and the fact that every piece is secondhand, because that also takes away to need to be careful with these things and just enjoy them as they are.

I don't have any design ideas, my home still resembles a college dorm. I just want to say that this reminds me of my parents' garage attic when I was growing up. They cleared out a space, and I had a desk up there and would spend so much time in it. My sister and I would have sleepovers up there with our friends, we would sort our halloween candy out up there, and it made the perfect sauna in the summer time when we had frozen ourselves blue in the pool. I hope your kiddos have as many good memories in their kid's clubhouse as I had in the garage attic.
If you haven’t already, I suggest changing the lock/latching thing on the door(s), since it looks like it can only be unlocked/opened from the outside, so just in case the door(s) get blown shut, or something, (etc.) the kids, or you/Ryan won’t get accidentally locked inside the “Little Blue Barn”. 💛
Aww so sweet! It’s like a family den, I love the idea of inset shelves with cups on them. You could put the fake succulents in tea cups too, it’d be like a farm tea house!
looove that little space and I do have some Ideas. I think long white curtains on each side of the barndoors would look nice, or framing the kids clubhouse. The two blue chairs id sell and buy one prettier chair and then maybe a little puff for eather resting your feet or having friends to sit on it. i love that hanging mug idea you could also use these little shelves for books, it looks like such a nice reading place. Also between the beems you could hang really little artpieces, like cute little postcards or polaroids on string. Love the plantideas you both had 😊
