My Biggest Wisconsin Musky of All Time! 51-inch GIANT Destroys Topwater!! S5.E01

It had been raining for days and even though I was cold, wet, and tired, I could not stop casting because the TopRaider bite was hot and getting hotter! It was now August and the wanning photo period was beginning to urge the big female muskies up from the depths and into the shallows to feed where they would be much more susceptible to angler efforts.
Although weed growth had peaked and was saturated with bait fish I became interested in another forage-holding feature of the water I was fishing: the current. The heavy rains had created a noticeable amount of current in the neckdown areas and as a byproduct had produced eddies that could hold substantial amounts of bait and of course, muskies. I had a feeling that these eddies adjacent to the neckdowns would be holding muskies but I had absolutely no idea that I was about to hook into the largest Wisconsin musky of life on the next cast. I threw my TopRaider out and began to retrieve. Half-way through its journey back to the Recon it was devoured and as I set the hook and felt the weight of the fish, I knew it was a HUGE musky!
Since I began hunting muskies back in 1999, this is the largest muskie I ever handled in Wisconsin. I am truly humbled by this catch and I am so proud to have the opportunity to share this special moment with you now. I have said this many times that, “big or small, we take em’ all!” And I very much believe this adage as all muskies that make their way into our nets are special. But there is something to be said about a muskie that is greater than 50 inches long, especially caught out of the inland waters of northern Wisconsin. A musky of this magnitude is very rare. A fish of a lifetime.

Great fish, Chas. Nick Schumacher here. I only fish inland lakes of northern Wisconsin when I make musky trips with dad. Almost always on small waters. Some UP as well. Great footage. You remained calm and collected the entire time, even during the tough netting situation. I lost a big one one time up there while solo for a short one-hour window without dad in the boat with me. The fit shook the rig on the 5th or 6th time up to the boat. Will never forget that one. Was in mid October. My biggest came in early November right before a snowstorm blew in. The drive back to the cabin was incredibly treacherous and just as memorable. August can be a good time for big fish, too. I know Joe always says that. Weather conditions in this clip looked conducive.

Nick, thanks so much man! Means a lot to hear that. I tried my best to keep my nerves steady and just focus on making the proper moves. Netting big fish when solo is just plain hard. The old muskies are experienced and, as you saw in this video, she knew exactly what I was trying to do when I first went to net her. I enjoy hearing about your giant muskie battles....they are moments we will truly never forget!

This is so great! Juicy conditions, solo fishing, game plan, execute, touchdown!! As a guy who spends 80%+ of his time in the boat solo, netting Muskies alone all summer long… the fact that was a solo catch is the most impressive part. DUDE!

Preston thanks so much man! That really means a lot dude. Yes, solo net jobs can be incredibly tough but when the fish get BIG... things get even more challenging! I made sure to do a few things during this fight that I learned the hard way.

Andrew thanks so much dude!!! And yes, you are so spot on there with that comment. The loss of Big Boy really did change the way I operate, ESPECIALLY when fighting big fish in the tanker category. I just go about the whole process differently and it paid off big on this giant. I like to say, it all has a way of evening out in the end. Our losses teach us and fuel us to find success in the future. Replica coming for sure... very unique markings on what is likely a very old musky!
