So just as an update to this! Kipling stepped up onto the bare hand today with not even a hint of wanting to bite! Also Charlie has become much more relaxed with my hood down, with less risk to me!
You are amazing❤ I looked like a Quaker being puffed up watching you Mummy watches my body languages 😊 Mummy ❤s Oscar Because we learn from other and respect boundaries.. Mummy said...I saved Her. And she saved Me. ❤😊 Parrot Teacher and Conure Groups helped US. Thank you to ALL 🎉 We Are Family 😊
Do you reward Charlie for being calm? That's the biggest thing I always forget to work on with my birds and I'm trying to change that. We reward so much for all the cute little tricks they do but we forget that when they are relaxed and have good body language to reward that too because it's a behavior we want more of. I love seeing progress videos and thanks so much for working with these guys. I love people who take the harder ones because they need people like us that will never give up on them.
Definitely do! It’s something I often do if I have a few spare minutes between work or tasks! I’ll just stand by the cage and do just that. We also have been working on it outside of the cage more often too recently and encouraging him to make good choices when interacting!
Do you feel like the fact that Kippling and Charlie are fully flighted had a positive influence on your success? Is their ability to flea reduces the chances of them feeling threatened and forced by your presence?
That's great to hear. Funnily enough my crimson bellied conure doesn't really like men either. The first time we had a guest to visit us, Valentine took a little chunk from this tall guy's earlobe 🙈 It seems to be a thing with them 😮
My parrot is a nervous wreck wont come near me or any treats in my hand. Apparently not hand reared and only a couple of years old. Mostly quiet in the cage but loud when out.
It’s something you can work through if you’d like to improve your relationship! It’s all about shaping the environment to be as good as possible for the little one while working on bonding techniques!
So I use mostly unshelled sunflower seeds and hemp seeds. Sometimes walnut for jackpot but every bird will be different. If you can watch my bird treat taste test video as it gives good tips on finding out! I’d link but sadly reply on my mobile!
When it comes to biting... and please do correct me because I'm no expert in this... but they say since Conures can indeed taste blood and they can infact eat meat, but once they get a chunck from you, that they turn into a bloodthirsty parrot and they'll ignore the things they usually should eat, again this is not me saying this is 100% true... just what I did read online, and they're Fantastic little critters doesn't matter what, bless them.
Sorry buddy but whoever wrote that was basically farting out of their mouth or via their keyboard. Conures don’t eat meat even in the wild (unless you count bugs then yes they do) While some conures will bite there is no evidence to suggest that tasting blood makes them want to bite more. It sounds like more random internet mythology sadly!!
Hi David--- Love the videos as always!!! They are always informative. I am following your guidance to train my Green Cheek Spidey. I got him about 4 months ago. Due to Illness, I had to seperate myself from Spidey. I had the flu and didn't want him and my parakeet Monet to possibly catch it. Now I am back to training and he still knows his commands up to where we stopped!! I was delighted at that!!! I don't force him to do anything and just take my time for him to learn. I have a question. It's time for a toenail trim. Do you advise me taking him to the store where I bought him to do the trim? I don't want to loose the trust he has in me right now by doing it at home. Please advise!!!!
I had started to have lots of success with my hand reared gcc, today my friend came to visit and my gc loved her, when she had gone my bird has been chasing my hands biting them and calling and looking for my friend, is this going to keep happening, I'm really upset, she's only 8 weeks old
Hi I have a green cheek conure named Paco I have had him a year and 9 months he was tame and social the whole time until about 2 months ago he started biting me and now he attacks me every chance he gets I don’t understand why when the whole time he’s been sweet with me what are your thoughts on it
I have noticed the change probably started after I got a red lored Amazon I gave them all the same attention but now it’s different that he attacks me I don’t want him next to me 😢
Hi, whenever my Conure is in the cage he is fine with me giving him treats and hand feeding him, however if I want to pick him up by sticking my finger in he starts running away. Whenever I open the door and he climbs out of the cage (but hes on top of it) its still the same behavior. It's only until he climbs down the cage and hops onto the floor that he allows me to pick him up. Is there any reason you know of to why and how I can fix this? Thank you so much!
The reason is on the floor your hand is more desirable than being low down! Elsewhere he doesn’t feel the desire to do so and the finger is scarier than stepping off! Fix wise positive reinforcement (high value treats) to step up, training, desense work etc I have guides for all of this on my channel!
Hey so I got a gcc 2 weeks ago she is 1year and half and she doing great she takes treats from me and the past two days I have been letting her out after she showed me that she can step up in the cage. My problem is that she flys at my arm and chews it like instantly bites twice and I am scared of her getting close to my shoulder bc I don't want to lose an ear 😅. I am just looking for advice is she biting me bc she is still new or is that a thing I have to live with 😢 She wants attention but still bites randomly with no signs I am not forcing her to do anything she just randomly bites which is expected from a new bird, will she grow out of it?
I’d recommend checking out my biting and bonding videos! I’ve also filmed a biting series I’ll be putting up soon which you’ll probably find useful! Sadly advice wise there’s just too much to type on the topic! She may do but training will assist!
@@TheParrotTeacher good news today she let me scratch her and she loves doing recall training. My only issue is if I don't have a treat in my hand when she is done with the last one then she will bite but she is being a bit gental
