It’s so moving to hear this beautiful intense experience you’ve had so beautifully told. Your RU-vid channels have “everything”. 💖🤩

Thankyou Tommi So much for sharing this video. Although my son's birth was 12 years ago nearly, I found your account very very moving and it brought back so many memories. I admire your attitude towards pain - I thought I was good with pain before going into labour but it turns out I am not - at all. Sam was spine to spine when I gave birth to him and I will never forget how that felt. I just think you and your husband are super cool and I wish you all the very best in the coming weeks and months. Thanks again, Ros X

Great episode. My youngest is 36 and I don’t remember the actual feelings of the contractions but I do remember the entire birth and the huge feeling of relief immediately after she was born. She was also a two hour labor and I remember saying over and over, I can’t believe she’s here already. It was so fast. Congratulations. You look wonderful and happy. Thanks for sharing.

I loved watching your birth story, thank you for sharing your experience. I have 4 children, all adults, but could so relate to your story as my youngest (28 now) was born at a birthing center in Pittsburgh. And while I did not have medications with my other 3, the experience at the birth center was so different and wonderful! I remember sitting at a big farm table in the kitchen drinking tea while having contractions and feeling so unhurried and relaxed. My labor was three hours and we stayed 8 hours, then went home. I kept journals of my pregnancy, birth, and the first two years for each of my children so they'd have their birth stories and toddler years as adults. I think having videos of your experiences is perfect.

Yes, that relaxed feeling is exactly what I loved about the birth center.

Well, I can tell you that even after 17 years I clearly remember my first child's birth. And that at some point I had that strange feeling of just calmly wanting to go home, now, and can somebody else finish this, please? Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed hearing your story.

Tommi, what a beautiful birth story! Primal sounds correct! All three of my births were different so it’s fun to compare them and hear the differences between your two births as well. My oldest will be 23 years old in August and my youngest will be 18 in December so the labors are still memorable but I forget the pain. Now that I work with mothers and babies on a postpartum unit in a hospital, I wish all moms would research and learn about what to expect before birth, but also learn what to expect the following days.Yes, that first night babies can sleep all night if you don’t wake them but it sounds like River had good instincts to start his food supply.

Thank you! What a cool line of work - I've had the vague desire to work with people having babies after both of mine were born. 😆

Thank you so much for that. I listened to Lucy’s birth story at the time that it happened, so I could compare. I’m not going to make any disclosure’s about my daughter’s birth… it was 53 years ago in a military hospital. That should tell you all you need to know! I’m glad you had such an easy birth, and River is just so cute.

For some reason I enjoy watching birth stories even though I've never given birth (future research maybe?). I was a neuroscience major and, fun fact, the hormone oxytocin is associated with memory loss! Oxytocin levels are really high after birth and also increase when breastfeeding, so postpartum mothers can have a lot of it. Anyway, research indicates that those high levels of oxytocin decrease memories (and the intensity of those memories) of the birthing experience over time. The evolutionary explanation could be that women who remember less of the pain of childbirth are more likely to have more babies. I think River is such a cool name, somehow modern yet really ancient-feeling at the same time!

Thank you! That is so interesting about the oxytocin!

Thanks for sharing your story! Your birth center sounds like a really great place. My first labor was long, difficult and unmedicated (up until they called a c-section). My second I had what I thought were Braxton Hicks all morning, they turned painful at 1pm, and he was out 2.5 hours later (after a dramatic ambulance ride to a close-by, unfamiliar hospital instead of the one farther away with my midwives because my husband wouldn’t drive me because I had started pushing and couldn’t stop) 😅 we are expecting again and planning a home birth this time, midwives are the best!

To me, my water broke in small sections. In the car of a friend.. haha. It broke 4 times during a 15 mins car ride. It gushed, but it didn't all come out at once. But I felt like a snap. It's so weird.
