@@davidqlo1377 found it! the user is named SimpleToSay, and it was posted to the my bloody valentine subreddit with the caption: “Strawberry Wine is the song that plays in your head when you first fall in love with somebody.” Was a comment under a RU-vid video I saw, and I couldn’t agree more. One of the most heavenly mbv songs ever!
I am priviliged to have this album on vinyl, and all the tracks are so special... jaunty, bouncy, even melodic. I saw them last year in Manchester..... the end of the session was literally 23 minutes of feedback... 23 minutes!!!! Like a plane engine overhead.... but refusing to move. The stewards were handing out ear plugs... it was intense! To play constantly like that for 27 minutes is pretty hard-core. I loved the gig and I love this band.
Misty morning in the springtime Close your eyes, crystal eyes On the darkside let the light shine Please, please stay with me tonight These lips will find strawberry wine
saw them at Moles in Bath in early Oct 1988. I'd hitched up from West Cornwall with a friend only to be told that Moles was a members only club with a capacity of about 10. Called the club and blagged a conversation with Colm who put us on the guestie. Shared a few beers and spliffs with them after. What a lovely unassuming lot. You Made Me Realise remains firmly in my Top 5 EPs of all time. You cannot underestimate their influence although they would admit the debt they to JaMC.
Autumn smells like crushed leaves, looks like blazing and dwindling branches, feels cool with the hood of my sweatshirt up, tastes like apple cider, and sounds like Strawberry Wine.
No one would still be talking about Kevin Shields & MBV if the songwriting hadn't evolved. There are a lot of people who can't stand Loveless. There are others who hate Isn't Anything. While yet others dislike the saccharine-pop of the E.P.s. This is the real power of MBV. W/a handful of albums, they've managed to appeal to distinctly different audiences & tastes...
A lot of people that "can't stand loveless"?? I gotta disagree. Most people who have heard loveless like it, minimum. That's because most people that have been exposed to loveless have a more open mind about abstract music. The average person....yes, they will most likely hate it. For sure. But as to people who have naturally come across loveless?? I seriously doubt there are "a lot of people" who hate it. Same for the other releases, really.
This is where the early MBV morphs into the later MBV.....fantastic song. I didnt realise just how good it was.....but then I seem to stand alone in thinking Loveless, as unique as it was, wasn't their finest hour.
Its hilarious that i havent heard this song in a good 5 years or so..... somehow think about it about 4 minutes ago and you have posted it a couple of days ago!!! I really like this track. Thank you for posting it.
I bought this CD about 15 years ago and always got in a sentimental an at the same time very energetic mood. When I listen to it now the feelings come back to my heart. I d love to go to a festival with friends, listen to that kind of music and get crazy.... Thx for reminding me of this song
Wine with a date at an idealic pond with a weeping willow in Springtime reminds me of this. Memories of a distant ethereal past with freinds and loved ones. Strawberry wine with your loved one is fine. :*)
like the Byrds on speed ... lovely peeps MBV.. saw them in colchester and colm fell off his drum stool... arose and did a keith moon for the next half hour or so
Oh, those hypnotic and jangly subtly noise drenched bubblegum dream pop melodies. Too short, but oh so sweet! One of MVB's more elegant sounding songs and a personal favorite of mine
Jamc might have been first combining noise and 60-girlgroup pop melodies, but mbv just did it a thousand times better, interestingly and with a more unique original crisp sound. best band since the 60's, maybe since always.
+BearWindAppleyard To be fair, The Ramones took the basic 60s girl group sounds and mixed them up with punk - perhaps the New York Dolls too. JAMC had a completely different take on it and perhaps created a new sound, with the girl group/surf/Velvets melting pot and put the feedback up front.....Never Understand ! Whichever way you cut it - it was all fantastic stuff - wish we had more of it these days!
all their different styles of music over the years has been equally as beautiful to me. never say goodbye is totally different than i only said but i love both of them the same.
my bloody valentine - strawberry wine [Verse 1] Misty morning in the springtime Close your eyes, your crystal eyes On the darkside let the light shine Please, please stay with me tonight These lips will find strawberry wine [Verse 2] I was looking at your window Lurking there beneath my feet Cherry apples, long grass meadows Close your eyes, for dreams in sleep These lips will find strawberry wine [Verse 3] Misty morning in the springtime Lurking there beneath your feet On the darkside let the light shine Think of me, don't let me keep These lips will find strawberry wine
what a brillant band, pity there isnt more music with such passion, good taste and creativness, though i guess its a good thing seeing only those who look deeper into the music scene are lucky enough to come across such good music
you're right. & i'm english. i appreciate some of slowdive's music, for example, but theres always something too sterile in comparison. it's also a visual thing. MBV have amazing visuals...
It's a lovely, simple pop song seeking a sound. Little did the band know what a radical sound would grow from beneath such songs. MBV had a whole album of such songs it strangely failed to revive after Loveless.
I'd tend to agree with you They did this very Syd Barrett-ish psychedelia very well and I think "To Here Knows When" is the best track on Loveless, which takes that sound to a totally different dimension
@BarneyRubble1968 Haha, Moles is proper fucking tiny, have you been inside? Would of been great to see them there though! I always went to there on Sundays for the U18 battle of the bands, nice little venue.
