Yeah, I just added a skid plate to my new 261. It's a good idea. I also added WCS fangs and an exhaust port. On my 460 I use a Bark Box. I will get the skid plates for my 460 and other saws.

I definitely think a few mods are good to help preserve the saws, especially when they cost as much as they do now! Thanks for taking the time to watch!

Thank you for the advice! The STIHL dogs worked perfectly and they also helped to keep my 32” bar off the ground. I’ll definitely be checking out a skid plate next! Thanks again.

Absolutely! Adding the dual dogs are a must-have, and the skid plate comes in super handy when you're working in crazy blowdowns or around equipment. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I like your attention to detail and explanation. I agree with you on the chain catchers, the factory hook gets chewed up with a few chain throws. I love spike upgrade too. They keep the body of the saw off the bark.

Great explanation and modifications on the saw. Don't know much about saws myself don't really use them.👌👍

Thanks for checking it out. I didn't know much about them until a few years ago when hurricane Michael hit us pretty hard in Florida. It's a tough way to learn a lesson!

Good video sir, first thing I do is install the skip tooth chain, I want to see chunks come out not fine dust

Thanks for checking in! I've got a skip tooth that I'm going to try for the first time on my 24" bar. It'll be nice only sharpening half (or is it 1/3?) of the teeth!

@@BigOrangeTractors it’s half and boy does it cut better on logs, not so much for trim tho it’ll snag little stuff, you doing good with the videos, uncle Hank should be proud

Get a barkbox. Literally day and night difference
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 2 года назад
No thanks. I added a straight shot a while ago and I couldn't tell any difference. Mainly because all I was thinking was "holy crap, this is loud". I was just so distracted by the loudness that I couldn't focus on anything but that.

@@BigOrangeTractors thats why you should get the barkbox. Its different. Make sure you reset it properly, and holymoly you’re feeling difference. With my 462 I added more then 10% hp. Its absolutely noticeable when you set it properly.

For me, bigger spikes make no difference. The spikes in my 500 work for what I need them to. Just seems the bigger spikes cost you bar reach. I know it’s very small amount, but I just want as much reach from a bar as I can get. I have yet to loose a chain and I’ve been running saws since I was old enough to hold one. Just gotta make sure that chain is tight and everything is how it needs to be. Only issue I have is I can’t sharpen a chain worth anything.
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 3 года назад
Yeah, I totally agree with the size of the spikes. I just want the roller catcher, I've had two come off, but both were using pretty long bars (36" on my 661, and a 27" on my cs620). Neither did much damage, but the roller catcher on the 661 helped protect it better than the one on the 620. Definitely look at the Stihl 2n1 files, or buy the pferd ones from Amazon. I like them a lot.

@@BigOrangeTractors I’ve got a 32 for mine which is what I bought it with cause that’s all I could get at the time. I bought a 20 for it but wish I would have gotten a 25
