My mk10/g250 scubapro regs from 1994 breathe just great at any depth. The key is to look after your equipment, regular servicing, and post dive care 👍🤿. Thanks for the vid Alec, a pleasure as always 👍

Another common cause of this is the tank valve not being fully open restricting the increased air flow needed at depth. A clue can be the SPG going up and down as you breathe.

For sure. I did a video on that exact scenario a while ago I think. Can't remember all the videos but Kevin tells me it's over 280! That's a lot of me to watch, HA. A

Minor point, but as I'm sure you meant it's mass per breath that increases at depth; your lungs inhale the same volume at 100 ft but the air is 4 times as dense, which increases resistance as it goes through the gubbins. I agree though that if this difficulty is a new thing, not just it's an old unbalanced reg, it could well be something has got into the filter. But as with any mechanism, regs don't like not being left idle. Valves can get sticky and either fail to deliver the right IP at one end or the correct cracking pressure at the other. So even if your're not diving it's a good idea to connect them to a tank, get the second stage wet and give it some exercise. Oh, and aluminum tanks have not replaced steel tanks; most of my diving is with steels and they haven't gone rusty, yet!

@peterjulianphotos4659 Год назад
My first thought was that it was an unbalanced reg, but if you're diving on pre 80s gear you'll be aware of that problem
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter Год назад
Hi Tim and thanks for the feedback. Many divers own steel tanks but rentals/liveaboards/resorts are mostly all aluminum for ease of maintenance. Nice to have so many choices in todays gear. In the late 50's all tanks were steel 72 (or smaller) and we loved them. A

@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter they both have their uses. I’m currently diving with both kinds at once!

It has happened to me twice, by a different cause: Partially opened tank. Both times, someone had barely opened the tank, probably checking it was full and neglected to fully open it or, at least, close it back. Mid-dive, after a certain depth, air supply was cut off.

Sad to hear that back turns are still being done. Make them watch my video on this: S12E06 "Scuba Myths - Turn The Tank Valve Back". It should smarten them up. Glad to know you were safe after this pulse raising event. A

Love Dacor regs. Won't say the make as this was a one off situation and I don't slam brands for that. A

Hi, i wanted to be like you.. what trainings and what agency ia the best to take to start To be a Dive Tech like you. Thanks Its Alex from Philippines
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter 29 дней назад
The best training agency is the one closest to you. No one will travel 1,000 kms just for a specific agency as they generally teach the same base skills. As long as you get started in Open Water, you can move between agencies or upgrade as time and money allow. Good luck and have fun. A

Couldn't it be, that the reg is unbalanced? I'm really not sure, so I would like to know :)
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter 8 месяцев назад
They are similar but on a full tank at depth, un-balanced is not really a factor. A partially open tank valve is the most likely problem in this situation. An un-balanced reg, at depth, with low pressure would slowly start to be noticed. Lower the tank pressure then breathing starts to become harder. A
