My BreyerWest 2022 Experience | first model show

How does BreyerWest compare to BreyerFest? What's a model horse show like? How much do Breyer Design-Your-Own models sell for at auction? Do you really get some BreyerFest sneak peeks while there? What is BreyerWest, anyway? I found all this out during my very first BreyerWest experience!
I haven’t had a chance to go to BF yet, but from what I gather, BW is smaller, calmer, and not as fast-paced. This was my first in-person Breyer experience ever, so for someone who is both old and green to the hobby, everything was new.
Here I share my weekend experience and unbox the two very special models I got while attending.

Excellent video, I'm hoping to get to my first in person show next year. I started my first collection when I was 7, gave it away, now at 42 collecting again.

Thanks for sharing! I’m in the same situation - collected Breyers 20-30 years ago but all my models got lost in a move. I recently started collecting again.

Thank you thank you!! A double Breyer trip year sounds WONDERFUL! We can peace out to our hotel rooms and _read_ when we need a break and totally understand each other's need for it! And YES.. LG was maybe $20 secondhand?? I just thought he was so handsome so I had to have him, and he's admittedly brought me more joy than some expensive models. ❤

I know I'm so late.... but at 14:02 was literally me the first time I showed models! I've now been showing models for 3 years! ❤️ It definitely gets easier as you go!

Oh my goodness, what a sweet video. Good on you for going it alone! I would love to see a video from you on the novice showing experience, or showing in general. I really like your style of explanation. I'm like you, an adult who came back to the hobby in the last 5 years or so. I tend to be the more retiring sort, so I'm terrible at going things alone like that. I can do it, I just don't like it. lol... I feel you on box rubs on models... I have a few that came out that way and drive me a bit nuts thinking about them. However: Congrats on Thornycroft! He's gorgeous. And congrats on your Lonesome Glory showing up all those flashy TBs... And Buffalo Bill's grave is totally a side trip I'd take if I lived on the west coast.

Thank you so much, Ellen! It's a weird thing, isn't it: to want to go do these things but not really want to do it alone? And in my case, not know anyone to go with? My two hobby friends live in different states than I do! I'm such a wallflower that it wasn't too big a deal to hang out by myself, and retreating to a quiet hotel room to rest and recoup was definitely necessary ..but I do admit, seeing folks surrounded by friends (and family!) to share the experience made mine feel a little more lonely. I'm still _very_ glad I went, and had a lot of fun. Total strangers were so nice and sat next to me when I was by myself, and struck up some conversation. Thank you for all the kind words and congratulations! I adore Thorny and bought my LG a name-plate halter and a mini 3rd place ribbon because I'm so proud of him! Haha. 💛

YES! I'd love to do a collection tour one day! I've been actively building my collection this past year too, so I hope to do some unboxing videos and share more "curated acquisition" videos as I check models off my ISO list! 😊

It would be wonderful if you could! I noticed that the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo was moved to mid-March for 2024, so IF BreyerWest is held there again during that expo, it'll be a little later in the spring vs the end of February, which is wonderful news because February snow can make travel difficult for attendees. I will say, the expo does have elevators if needed, and ADA-compliant sidewalks up to the convention center. It's also a much calmer, "quieter" bit of fun than what I gather BreyerFest is, and everyone is SO nice and accommodating I'm sure you'll have no problems getting assistance if you need it. If its return is announced and you find you can go, let me know! I'm available to answer any questions and help however I can!

@@CandaceToo Yes, if I can make I'll absolutely let you know! I know Stormy Strikes also attends so it would be nice to meet some RU-vidrs there! I gotta Uber cause I can't drive so by the time I get there I'll probably be willing to let a helper carry my entries to their show tables. XD

Im 62 years now and i have been crazy with breyer horses all my life IT all started when i was a child living in the States now i live in the Netherlands. Its very difficult to get the horse here which is sad

Oooh I am so sorry it's hard to get models out there. I started collecting as a kid too! I hope you're able to get some shipped through Breyer and kind sellers in the states to continue collecting. International shipping can be so tricky sometimes.

Do you live in Utah? I lived in Ogden from 79-85 and now I live north of Milwaukee WI. I would move back out west if I had a place to move to. My breyer collection is over 1200 pieces. My schleich collection is over 700 pieces. :)

That's AMAZING. I'd love to have a collection that large, but have nowhere to house them! And yep, I'm in Utah. I don't make it much further north than downtown Salt Lake but the mountains that way are lovely.
