Lovely motor, would love one of these. I've got an i3, despite being as ugly as anything, still great fun to drive. Having a CFRP body with a nice low centre of gravity due to the battery makes it corner like a go kart.

ChayD True! I own both and for the city the i3 is clearly the better choice. Stunning the fact both batteries are still in top condition after six years! Perfect german premium engineering!

The gearbox is an AWTF-80 unit used in the entry level BMW/Minis and couple of Fords and Vauxhalls 👍

It has a CF monocoque chassis so if you crash it then it’s a huge cost to replace as you can’t repair it typically. I think that’s one of the reasons it goes cheap second hand

Fist time I saw this car was at the Johannesburg International car show I think 2011/ 2012 it's got such a presence. I would just fit wider rear wheels just to round it off.

My Zo6 C7 gets that kind of fuel mileage and has 650 hp I have been looking at getting an i8, sucks that it's slow, but u really don't need supercar power... I keep telling myself that.

Yeh mate the engine sounds are all fake. Its a 1.5 3cyl, so outside it sounds like a moped. You just listening to pre recorded sounds through the door speakers.

@@robmccall5017 Cheers... are you in the USA - I ask because 11 unsold 69 (2019) plate Roadsters with v low miles in UK at dealers from £67,450 to £76,000 (I paid £78k for mine in January 20) - so not sure Roadsters are going up yet in UK, although old sensible mileage FSH 14 year coupes are all over £40k now - we need all the coupes and roadsters to be all sold here in UK for it to start moving well I think just as SLS and Z8 did...in Germany they are rising quite a bit I note already though ☺️

My Roadster was 98.000 Euros 3 Months ago (11.000 Km ; new Price 144.000 euros) By now there is no accident free low Mileage Roadster on German Market below 112.000 Euros. In my Eyes its a Keeper! Not sure about the Coupe though. Cheers

So... the title is about a "BROKEN BMW i8"... and at no point did you address whether or not there was genuinely a problem... or how you knew that one way or the other? The video is most entertaining for petrol heads (no doubt)... but of absolutely no assistance whatsoever to anyone thinking of buying one. Basically a waste of my time.
