Here's a first look at my 1972 International Scout II Nacho! This is by far my favorite vehicle/possession. In this video I let in in on why!

No Jason, your Dad's Scout was 4x4 and it went extreme offroad leading me in my Blazer into places that I would never have tried to go on my own. I have a couple of pics of the Scout and you! I can hear your dad's voice saying "that's my boy!" (from my memories) and I know for sure that he's proud of you. Carry on with your great work knowing that he's looking down on you from Heaven with great pride and a huge smile.

Jason, The Nacho experience is much like many of us wishing to recapture something special. My dad had a 1977 Scout II. I loved that truck. My dad over time slowly developed Alzheimer and his memory was poor at times. He decided to sell the scout, so I told him I would buy it; we agreed on a $600 price and I drove out the next week to pick up the scout. To my surprise my father had forgotten that he was to sell me the scout and he sold to a neighbor. My father and I were heartbroken. For years I felt robbed. Every time I saw a scout on the road it reminded me of what I had lost. This year, my wife surprised me with a scout. Much like Nacho, it was a base model 1975. This truck is literally a shell, no engine, no transmission, no seats, no dash pad, no wiring harness, no gas tank, no windshield, no rear window, yet the body is somewhat ok. I could not be happier. My truck is called “Bravo”. I don’t have a lot of experience working on scouts, but I’m slowly rebuilding and replacing what is missing. I hope to build some memories too. Look forward to getting one of those swing away tire mounts for Bravo. Look forward to more Nacho adventures. Michael Feltis, Kaufman, Texas

Sick story! My dad has a 79 and had it since 80. My childhood is spent in that truck, working on it with him, and the best part...... driving it in HS. Ive been out in it the past few yrs and its such a memory. Great story!

My dad passed in 2015. He’s had a 74 (I think) Scout sitting in the garage for years. I’m going to start the process of restoring it.

absolutely love it. My dad brought home a brand new 73 Scout with a straight 6 and a 4 speed manual when I was 5. I ended up driving that same truck in high school and beat on it like young guys do. My 2 older brothers bought and restored their own Scouts too. There are all gone now except for some misc. parts laying around. Now I really want one but so hard to find like you said at a descent price. For know I am saving my money and hoping the new electric version VW plans to build will be in my driveway some day... Thanks for sharing

I have my grandfather's 1972 Scout II with a 304, speced just like in this video. He bought it from my dad not long after he had it painted orange way back when and it has been sitting in my granfather's garage since he passed in 2012. I'm slowly getting it going again, but its difficult to find parts. Thankfully it doesn't seem to need too much, just a radiator which is already installed, and possibly rear brake lines, since replacing the hose didn't actually fix the leak. I need to tune the carb as well but haven't gotten around to it just yet. I'm really looking forward to the new scout that VW is working on too, I hope they keep them affordable and practical. I like the Rivian trucks but they're way too expensive and too focused on luxury for my tastes. Gook luck saving up, I know I'll be doing the same haha

Love the build brother! Super stoked to see where it takes you man. Love the passion you bring to it! Looking forward to a build myself, one day. And a scout ii is high on that list.

Great video. As someone who’s got a 68 800 scout I can only tell you that they’re just fun to wrench on and take adventures. Way to honor your dad as well.

Thanks for sharing something so personal on such a public platform. My dad left behind an older Dodge Ram that I’ve spent way too much money on fixing up, and it’s funny the things we’ll do to connect with people from our past. Good luck with your project, and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. PS - I died laughing at the sentimental value + emotional baggage = daddy issues bit!

Good Shit Jason! Following along as I recently acquired a 75' Scout II and am eyeing a full restomod style build similar to what you've done. May need to pick your brain sometime if you're willing to shed some insight!

Love the story behind this! I lost my dad when I was 18. He bought a 1964 Chevy c10 with a shitty old camper on it and took my family on an awesome trip to Glacier Natl. Park. I've always wanted to track down the same truck. Looking forward to seeing where this build goes!

Dude literally just came across your channel, and watched all your scout videos. I too purchased a 72 scout within the last year. Keep the scout content coming brother! There isn’t enough out there and I love watching anyone who is keeping these old dinosaurs on the road. Any videos you can post would be great. Happy bindering!

I’ve been loving the Instagram content, that’s what brought me here, I hope to see more! I’ve also got a ‘72 Scout I got from my grandfather after he passed. Same options as yours 🤘🏼

That's exactly how I came upon mine, same year and specs as well. It's slowly coming around, just needs a brake leak fixed since replacing the hose didn't do it, and the carb needs some work, or there's a vaccum leak. The thing's been sitting since 2012 when my grandfather passed, so I'm sure a lot more issues will arise once I start driving it again.

Congratulations. I've always thought the Scout 2 was the best looking 4x4. A buddy of mine and I started collecting them in the late 80s. They are easy to work on and modify. I still have 2. There's a 4 inch lift on one of them with 33" tires, a built IH 392, Dana 300 transfer case (from a 1980 Scout 2) and the juice torqueflight tranny has a low gear kit (6% 2nd gear and 11% first) , shift kit and aftermarket torque converter. Detroit Locker in the rear and posi up front. My other one is a 1980 diesel 4 speed. I look forward to seeing you build your Scout into something special. Will you stay with IH engine, etc. or go with a more modern setup?

Scouts are a very capable 4x4 rig my dad has had at least 5 of them while I was growing up starting with a 65 scout one of the original scouts

I've always loved the 72 the most, but I'm probably biased since I got my 72 from my granfather before he passed. I am really lucky that mine was garage kept and has no rust or body damage, my dad had it repainted in the late 80s just before my grandfather bought it from him for 1 dollar. A beautiful orange colour, and it seems to only need a carb rebuild and to fix a brake leak. I've already replaced the radiator, and tried to fix the brake leak but it re appeared after six months.
