Just went full unifi myself. They are just so user friendly and quality. Hope they keep it up

I have had my ubiquiti amplifi HD since 2017, upgraded to unifi myself last week. Got everything delivered may 3rd, which consists of unifi cloud ultra, switch ultra 60w, unify U6+ and two flex mini's. I love how user friendly it is, and the controll and overview of the whole network. I plan to run more ethernet drops over the next year(s) and might expand, but so far I'm super happy about the decision to go from amplifi to unifi

Setup my fiber connection and CGM today. I got the no storage option. Freaking amazing so far. Everything else I want to order is out of stock.

Use that mini PC as an OPNSense Firewall with a Transparent Filtering Bridge and you get your IDS protection covered.

Started with the express myself, added the cloud gateway ultra, and moved the express to just AP mode. So far added 2 switch 8 60Ws, a flex mini and have a 16 Pro Max on the way. The ipv6 support could be stronger, but I'm loving it.

lucky you , still waiting to see any availability on both the 16 or 24 port pro max switches in the UK . Why ipv6 ? , I can't see the point of ipv6 on the internal side of the network , ipv6 was a solution when ipv4 ip address is getting short but nat as stopped most of that for now ?, so does your site have more than 100,000 of computers ?

@@peteradshead2383 I’ve been running a dual stack network for a few years now, only way I was ever going to learn it was to implement it myself. Plus, no NAT!

Remember if using a Express as a router. You can only have a max of 5 UniFi device (including UniFi switches) 👍🏻

Love the tour. I moved to the express late last year. Unfortunately, enterprise gear call me 😅. For the pi4, a PiKVM or pi-hole might be some good ideas.

You are fully maxed at on the UniFi devices you can connect to that Express...

50 concurrent clients? I don’t have that many friends 😅 and 2 switches and 2 APs is already pretty overkill for my house. I’ll upgrade when I move into my mansion with my RU-vidr money 😂
@DualWieldingDad
@DualWieldingDad 16 дней назад
That is the cool thing about the express. That if I upgrade it, it’s still useful as an AP

Seems like UDR might have been even better? But maybe it was out of stock. 😅

According to your description box where you described the cost of your Unifi equipment, I will have spend near $540 USD (not including taxes) to have a similar setup as yours or at least that's what I understood. Let me know if I'm wrong. However, since I'm retired with a fixed income, I can afford to spend that much on Unifi, which I would like to have set up since very soon I will move to a newly built home with ethernet in almost every room and my current setup will not be good enough. Anyhow, great educational video, but I think I have to find a starter kit under a $400 USD mark. Thank you.

UniFi is definitely not cheap, even used. I would have not went with UniFi if the express never released. Here is a x2 access-point setup I would consider as for a base to start with: - Router: TP-Link ER605 Gigabit VPN Router - ~$60 - 8-Port Switch: TP-Link TL-SG108 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch - ~$25 - Access Points: TP-Link EAP225 AC1350 (2 units) - ~$65 each

I would just grab a Cloud Gateway ultra (UCG-Ultra), Lite POE 8 Switch (USW-Lite-8-POE), an a AC-Pro AP (UAP-AC-PRO) and expand from there as required. There your looking at around 387 USD..

How about a walkman shaped music player/streamer with buttons for the rpi4? I don't know what to do with mine either.

Hardware seems pretty good. The software is pretty terrible though, especially in terms of UX consistency, observability, and firewall.

Unifi stuff looks cool but is too expensive compared to used Cisco/Juniper. Also if you ever change jobs and want to work in a data center it is unlikely you will see the stuff there as well.

not putting the AP up on the wall or ceiling is why they have crap connection

Unifi and on a budget is a bit of a oxymoron , I got a UCG Ultra , 2 x U6 PROs , a AC lite for slow iot devices in the garage , 2 x 8 port poe switches , 3 x cheap 5 port switches , and I won't say that was on a budget at about £800 + .

You could not replicate the configurability and stability for less money. Might come close with some Aruba or used gear, but I’d wager it’d still cost more.

unifi express is not good ..no IDS and IPS.. also not able to pass a specific vlan through the lan port. even if you create a profile for it.. also it is not even showing the device connected to the lan port

That depends on your use case. If you need or want some of the features, it’s hard to beat from a value proposition. Ubiquiti support sucks though, so factor that in as well.
