A lot of the time I watch videos like these to see what kind of stuff other people carry in their vehicles. Makes me feel less crazy lol. My truck always has an axe (or 2), tow straps, booster cables, shovel, lighter, tinder, first aid kit, bumper jack (jackall), socket set, couple knives, multi screwdriver, crescent wrench, pump pliers and a folding saw. Majority of this stuff is there because I’ve needed it at one time or another. The one time my wife cleaned out the back of my truck. She took out the bumper jack, axe and shovel. I didn’t know. I went hunting and got stuck. I was there for 5 hrs trying to use a small hand axe and the jack that comes with the truck. After I buried the front end of the truck I had to swallow my pride and call my father in law to pull me out. The next day I got stuck again because I don’t learn. I had all my gear this time. I was out in 5 minutes.
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive 2 года назад
LOL! Glad I could help you not feel as crazy. Oh yeah, it's Murphy's Law, as soon as you don't have "all that gear" is the moment when you will end up needing it. 😅 Funny story by the way. 👍🏻👍🏻
@bloodwintertales5984
@bloodwintertales5984 2 года назад
That’s how I feel. I always get called paranoid but I would rather always have it. I do hope I never have to Use it but if I do my chances of survival or even just getting out of whatever stupid predicament I put myself into go up. But I am getting new piece of kit for my car. In my trunk I have everything from medical/Survival and gear to fix my car. I still have a ton of room for just everyday things like groceries. I’m making sure to pack what I need and what will give me better odds. But I’m adding a Henry AR-7 to the car as I travel nearly 1000 miles twice a year to visit family back In Iowa. I’ve been on the route multiple times and never had issue when riding with my family but if I do get into a issue where I can’t fix my car or can’t stay with my car I have gear to keep my survival rate up. Plus a .22LR take down is also comforting to know you have something that can help you in a bad situation whether it’s sending yourself or having to hump it in the wilderness
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive 2 года назад
@@bloodwintertales5984 Exactly! I get it very often, you'll notice a bunch of comments saying that I am paranoid or hoping something goes wrong. 😅 I'd rather have the gear and not need it, than need it and not have it. But also, usually the people who call you paranoid know who to go to when they a tool or something else while out and about.

Happykal11 - If my wife had done that, she would be my ex. You have a good tool kit for realistic truck problems. It wouldn't hurt to add visegrips, duct tape, a file, johnson bar and a fire extinguisher.
@happykal11
@happykal11 Год назад
@@ScorpionRegent we had words her and I. She cleaned the mud out of the truck interior so It’s all good. I have an axe file and axe puck I keep on the truck. Never thought of keeping a Johnson bar in the truck. Makes a lot of sense now that I think about it. I stopped carrying duct tape because every time I’d go to use it the heat would turn it into a useless sticky mess. For some reason it never bothered my roll of electrical tape.

I love the idea of the Pro-Knot cards being thrown in there. Also the Rite-in-the-Rain is something every EDC should have. I suggest to throw a reasonable multi-tool in there, esp. if the thing lives in your car. Also the small things in there are a great EDC addition, like the nail file, the tooth brush or the soap. A hand sanitizer may be a good complement to those.

I love the pouch setup! Thank you for sharing. Here is a quick tip that might help with that mini fire starter... Firmly post your hand holding the scraper close to the tender and pull the ferro rod back and away from the tender. I find this technique especially useful when using the mini survival ferro rods because you have to be so close to your tender that striking towards always hits the tender. Any time I've tried to do it like you did in this video I find myself using non family friendly words. Hope that helps.

That wire saw is a POS in real survival situations. It's heavier but doesn't''t take up too much more room, but a replacement chainsaw blade is pretty awesome for cutting wood. It has holes on each end that you can put sturdy keyrings on and just grab a short piece of branch to put in to grab so it doesn't tear up your hands

I have never tried the chainsaw blade before, but I will definitely give it a try. Thanks. 👍

I agree with A of G. Those small survival cable saws have a reputation for being unreliable; iffy is unacceptable in a survival situation. Another alternative is to make a handle that will hold Sawzall and/or saber saw blades. Be sure to test it so you know it won't fail.

Cool! Enjoyed the video, I'm in the process of optimizing my EDC pouch. Tip for the ferrocium: try pulling the rod backwards instead of the striker forward. I find it helps me when lighting tinder so it doesn't fly around. Also, my vote is for the trauma kit! Been adding to mine as much as I can.

John Lone - Battery banks with solar panels are a great idea, but they are limited. They take forever to recharge, which is fine if you set them in the sun for long periods of time and only use them occasionally. If the solar panel as the primary source of recharge it should not be packed away, it should be sitting on the dashboard. For everyday use off the grid, a larger separate solar panel is the ticket.

Most of the gear will be absolutely ok with the heat and cold. Anything with a battery, like the power bank, could get damaged, any edibles can go bad, and of course I always remove all of my emergency water from the car in winter. But other than those items, the rest will be fine.

Amazing assortment. I suppose most of the fun is assembling the kit. I'm a city dweller. It could come in handy being stuck somewhere. I've always packed that space blanket.

Love your vids, always super informative! I'd like to see both the trauma kit vid and the survival water bottle kit vid, but I'm especially curious about what you do with a water bottle kit. You often have unique and amazing ideas. Keep up the awesome work!!!

Thanks! I have already uploaded both videos and even have a 2nd version of the water bottle kit. In the second version I upgraded the water bottle to a single wall metal bottle and I upgraded some of the contents.

I would recommend putting in a small bar of soup like the mini bars they give you at motels as a backup to the other item you showed in case they dry up. Any kind of wet wipe or dry wipe can after a while not work at all and a bar of soup is always good, no expiration date.
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive Год назад
Gotcha! I was confused at first. You must have made a typo and wrote soup instead of soap. 👍🏻 But yeah, good idea.

I would make paracord handles for the saw, attached to the rings.Makes it more effective, and if you really need the extra cordage you can dismantle the handles.

Nice kit. I really like that light. I recommend putting the notebook and glass breaker pen in the outside pocket of the pack along with a small local map. If you put these in first they will conform around the contents of the pack as you fill it. You won't be using them a lot each day so it should be okay if they are snug. Also hang a whistle on a carabiner or strong magnet on the outside. These are items you won't want to dig into your pack for if really needed in an emergency. You may also want to include a glow stick, candle, hand warmer packet, bright orange handkerchief (for signaling, head cover, bandage, or filter), a decent multitool, tweezers, couple of cable ties, and a glue stick. Also, a small first aid kit that includes not just a bunch of bandaids, but also allergy pills, small bleed stop packets and a couple of hard candies. I would also include a small rectangle of plastic, like the type used for a flexible cutting board from the dollar store, that can be rolled into a cup or funnel. Sounds like a lot to add, but most is small or flat so you should be able to tuck into remaining spaces in your pack.
