Well folks, I think I've found the one. A Cartier that I hated at first sight but one that has won my heart at the End. Join the best online community for talking watches at WatchCrunch (download the app)
This video is exactly what I needed. I'm on the hunt for a Cartier and I was between the Santos De Cartier and the 100. I do enjoy owning more "unique" pieces and I think I will go for the 100 !!
You may want to check out the Cartier Santos de Cartier Large with the green dial. It comes with the traditional stainless steel bracelet [which is absolutely the best bracelet on the market] and a beautiful green leather strap. Switching them out when needed is ridiculously easy. In my humble opinion, this is the best on most beautiful watch you can buy.
You can wear whatever you want. No one can judge your change of heart. We all have different taste even with small details. I´m in a similar journey with a cartier i want to purchase once i graduate from my masters and your videos are really helpful.
I love my Santos de Medium and it's maybe the best watch I've ever owned - and yes, if I could just get my hands on an Americaine, I'd probably trade it for that elongated beauty! It's who we are and we can't help it! Great presentation as always - Thanks.
Yes. I have a 100. You have arrived in the right place, Max. If only you had called me five years ago I could have saved you all the flipping. Thanks for your thoughtful and great-looking content.
Very pleased with the medium blue as although I liked the white it was too formal for me.The two dial finishes, applied markers and loom on the hands is never boring. Now goes with jeans and polo shirt but a strap switch makes it black tie acceptable.By landing this as first and last Cartier saved a long and costly experience.
Vintage gold Cartier Santos Dumomt are stunning. I think you can find them with a moonphase as well. It’s a solid gold watch under 10k (pre-owned of course)
I have a 100 Cartier and it runs perfectly and gives good wrist presence. I have 2 croc straps but found them a bit too ridged for my feel. I got some rubber straps, identical to original strap specs, and it looks really cool. Perhaps not the best Santos for some but personally it floats my boat. Enjoy !
I was hell bent on getting a tank Louis or a must as my first Cartier piece. I never liked the Santos when I first saw them in the early 2000s. Absolutely despised it, especially in the two tone!! And then like every watch enthusiast, I had one of my many mid-life-purge-the-collection moments. Started migrating towards smaller case diameters and voila... The Santos 100 mid sized on an alligator strap with the double deployment butterfly clasp. This piece is so versatile and wears so well across my wrist. Absolutely love the timeless and yet contradictingly brutalist design elements. A keeper if you find one at the right price.
Great video! it seems Cartier Santos has this effect over people, we like them all but there that one detail...and then you find yourself looking for an specific model....
Great video, respect your decision -- but I do agree that you're being a bit of a contrarian. I don't think many folks see a Cartier Tank (in any of its variations) and thinks, "Oh, what a cliche." I think most people will think, "nice watch."
I viewed this watch at my local jewellery shop a few months ago and I instantly fell in love it. It's the first watch I've tried on that's made me want to buy it there and then. I didn't, but now I might ha
It sounds like you’ve met your wrist companion.🍻 that elusive watch that fits the life that your living ,not one that’s made for the life you wish you were !!! In my case that is the omega tritone titanium rose gold tantalum .
One of my grail watches is the original Santos Dumont in rose gold. It was released at the same time as the 100 , it's thinner and more of a dress watch. It doesn't have the bezel with the screws which really elevates it's look. The clean dial makes it easy to tell the time and it's size makes it manly (though I've seen women wear it as well), check it out...
Thanks Max! Whats your wrist circumference if you dont mind me asking? My 40th birthday is next year and Im in love with the watch, I just might pull the trigger. My wrist circumference is 17 cm, what size would you recommend?
Hi Max, finally you have found the best Cartier Santos. In one of your first vídeos about Cartier, I have comented that I ve bought Santos 100 ref 2878 and for me it was by far the best! Love this video!! 😊
It never ends pal. You always want another, the next one, the new one, the old one, the better one, the next one… there will always be another watch you want. It’s the addiction
Hello again! I remember talking with you about the Galbée. I sold mine too as it felt too fragile - although it is really very nice. Additionally I could never a good fit for summer. Not sure where I go next with regards to Cartier. The Tank Américaine is nice...
I bought the mid sized Santos years ago for 4K in Barbados duty free shop. Since then, I have no desire to buy anything else (even though occasionally I look at the XL version). Together with my Submariner, I think my watch journey is done.
Over/under on the next edition of this series in six months? 😅 Maybe you need to go gold or two tone next? I'm enjoying the ADLC Santos at the moment, a bit on the larger size but it's super sporty, especially on the integrated black rubber strap. No bezel scratches, curved case, lume, it's a totally different vibe, feels ... villainous.
I liked that perspective of the tank being to on the nose. (No shade to those who own and love it). The Santos 100 is sexy AF! And the clasp on the leather strap balances it perfectly!
Hi Max. Been on the WC app for a while and really enjoy it. I’d love to see a counter of total users somewhere on the app. Because I’m a nerd and love numbers I guess. But it would also be cool just to see the number grow. Does this feature already exist? Asking for a friend. 😊
Not sure if I completely agree with the thought process, but I understand everyone has different opinions. If you're trying to get wacky with Cartier... I would prob go Crash... otherwise you really can't go wrong with a vintage Tank Louis or the modern Santos medium.
This is a bit much. I'm glad you acknowledged that it's become an inside joke at WatchCrunch. I genuinely enjoy your reviews for their entertainment, production, and educational values, but I kind of feel like your parade of videos on finally finding the prefect Cartier model . . . until lo and behold it's not even desirable six months later, are confusing. It would be one thing if the videos came across as unreasoned, but quite the opposite. In each one you are very thoughtful to highlight features that you specifically considered and decided were positives, only to then highlight them as almost fatal flaws, for you, when switching to the brand's next offering. But wait . . . these videos actually are helpful! Hear me out because I'm not being entirely coy, snarky or facetious (not entirely, lol). I recently decided to add two new watches to my collection because of a life event. I have so far purchased an all stainless Rolex 36mm Explorer and will not part with it. I had been considering getting my first Cartier as the second purchase, with the steel Santos medium in the lead. But then I saw your parade of Cartier videos, and each made me think how I would feel over time about the features you ended up disliking. And then I found a slew of other RU-vid reviews by people who initially loved the Santos only give more qualified reviews within months of follow up. So, recognizing that all of this is subjective, I have been quite turned off by Cartier as a company and by each of its offerings, both current and vintage. That has been surprising and educational. I now feel more inclined to move away from any Cartier offering towards the IWC Mark 20 with the blue dial as my second new buy. Yeah, that watch gets its criticisms, but I've absorbed all of them and they don't concern me like the issues with Cartier's watches. And, honestly, with the exceptions of the look and feel of the Santos at an AD, nothing from Cartier still interests me much. Take all of this with a grain of salt. First of all, I know your message is not anti-Cartier and that you still seem fond of the offerings even if not right for you. Second, I am an admittedly cynical 59 year old curmudgeon with a collection I've acquired over 35 years that includes Rolex, JLC, Zenith, Tudor among others, so I'm not someone who buys watches based on a few reviews (or audio equipment, for that matter, but that's for another forum, lol). And, finally, I do genuinely appreciate your work and will keep following you!
Well, this is my Cartier journey: started with the tank Solo XL, then Santos, then Cartier Tank Must XL and now back to Tank solo XL. I made a promise to myself: this is the last one! 😂
I feel the same with Cartier. I’ve owned three, sold three. I think Cartier is an overrated brand. For the money, there are just much better brands out there
