Commander Billy Watts flew F6F Hellcats off USS Hornet and Bunker Hill in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during WWII. He shot down 8.75 Japanese aircraft and took part in the invasion of Okinawa. Billy Watts was described by his fellow pilots as fearless.
Commander Watts was photographed as part of my COMBAT PILOTS project.

I call my recording with Commander Watts a "chat" rather than an interview. It is very informal and was made so I could write out the transcript and refer back to it later. It was not intended to be broadcast. I hope you will forgive me for this and enjoy the chat for what the Commander says, rather than judge the video on the poor quality of the recording and the interview technique.
I voice-Skyped Commander Watts because I was unable to see him face-to-face. I photographed most of my pilots myself; however, Michael Schoenholtz in Portland, Oregon, photographed all my American pilots.
I spoke to the commander as part of a project I did where I photographed and interviewed 40 veterans of the second World War.
I sincerely hope you enjoyed my chat with this heroic man.
Kindest regards
John Martin Bradley
