I think that's what it was used for, the ware on the seat bolsters on the offside rear was very worn which is unusual, unless it's been some sort of taxi, lot of car for the money though.

I have never lost money on a car. I now have bought a 500€ Passat and already spend 1700€ just on parts. So needless to say I have massively overspent. Definitely not a good influence on me this channel

I do this and its great fun, not sure it's any more expensive than being sensible. My 2006 CRV, Executive no less, cost me over £1k at the last mot, most would have scrapped it but in my mind it's a vgc & very useful vehicle for another year for less than £25 a week.

The actual value when fixed is more relevant than the purchase price when it comes to deciding whether to fix a car or not.

Definitely try to include more of the places/ people that work on your cars in the future. It was a great addition hearing the mechanic from spr speaking about what the issues were and how they were sorted.

Great video, thanks Matt. I spent £3k on my Skoda Superb L&K estate, which brought it up to the same price I'd have paid for one without issues... but I love that feeling of saving an old motor. Items required were glow plugs, Xenons, 4 tyres, brake pads, brake discs, brake fluid, rear hatch earth repair, engine service, gearbox service, Haldex service, 2 springs, 2 shocks (one of which was the self levelling type) plus a seats out valet (feckin' dogs)!

One of my favorite chanel on YT for sure. It is like a library. I also recently rewatched your Panamera episodes, as I am contemplating a used one. You make it incredibly personal. It’s such a joy to listen to Sam from SPR. He has a wealth of knowledge, buys genuine when you have to but doesn’t shy away from alternative solutions when that’s acceptable (to his standards). I highly recommend his channel.

I bought a 2007 S Class LWB back when we all felt flush and ran it for 13 years. Did all needed services in an approved dealer. By the time I just wanted a change, I gifted it to the son of a friend. At the time, it was in need of work which he took on. Annual road tax on a 2.8L Diesel is €1500 per year in this jurisdiction, so that alone rendered it worth near nothing.

Love Mercedes. I was just about to service my W212 7G Tronic ‘box and it would take about £230 in parts plus tools. My local Merc specialist who I trust implicitly just quoted £300. It’s a no brainer. So tempted to buy that S Class. I miss my E350 E Coupe so much. 🫶

Let me put it this way, many dealers dont care and encourage bodging to hide problems long enough to get them off the forecourt. You can charge higher prices because you make sure they are up to scratch.

Another prestige car saved. Having ran a number of luxury car brands they are all potential money pits. They need specialists to repair them correctly with genuine parts if available. Buying one is the easy part, having the funds to run and repair them is another matter.

So they removed the inlet motor so something is always open? What's the point of it then if owners tend to remove it when modding their cars, and the vans with the same engine don't have one to start with?

Yeah, I didn't understand that part either so I googled it. The motor controls air flow/swirl to improve fuel efficiency. The result is negligible, thus, people bypass it when it malfunctions.

Because $6k is too much money for a luxury car? LMAO. I bought a used S-Class for next to nothing $5K CDN, 7 years ago and I haven't spent more than $250 on it (a couple of relays and a used smog pump). For the price, there's nothing else like them on the highway. Beautiful, serene, quiet, cloud-like ride.
