I bought myself this broken 2014 Jaguar F-Type S for my birthday. Doug from ‪@switchcars‬ owned it so I lowballed him, he said he had a higher offer, I matched it and sent him the money immediately. Now I've got it back at the shop and it's time to see just how bad it is, and if it will run at all. When we tried to start it to drive it on the trailer the engine wouldn't even turn over.

Jag tech, id start with cylinder leak down test to confirm if head gasket is actually bad on that side. I’ve never seen the intercooler leak internal before, (could always be a possibility) otherwise not much ways for coolant to get into cylinder other than head gasket. Common problems for 3.0L are y-pipes under super charger looks like yours have been updated water pumps were real common cross over pipe from head to head are real common on the back I usually do y-pipes crossover pipe and water pump all in one shot while charger is off. Other common issues is pcv valve it’s on passenger side valve cover it’s round disk they tear internally cause lean code bank 1. I can hear your supercharger spring rattling easy to determine if that or chains take intake off disconnect driver MAF can do it from top if you look take belt off super charger start it up and shut down listen for chain rattle on start up and shut down. Those vacuum lines you found in the back looked more like coolant lines could be old stuff the hard cooling lines are really brittle after this long. Yes you should reset battery monitor with scan tool honestly if your not worried about the low batter messages on right now and are still getting a feel for the car it’s really not gonna hurt a whole lot id still recommend resetting it down the line and be careful with some scan tools I have a cheap autel and for some reason the jags hate it turns them into a brick lol it’s nice to see people discovering jags these cars have been over looked for a long time good to see!

Check the water to air intercoolers on the upper intake manifold and see if they're weeping coolant into the ports. It could very well be the cause of your issue.
@F06M6
@F06M6 2 года назад
It's only on the earlier 4.2s that did that. These are external in the bumper. Worth a shot taking off the top of the supercharger though. 18 bolts and he'll be able to see the intake runners.

There's 2 intercooler bricks on mounted to the supercharger lid on the 3.0 and 5.0, so Stefan might be on to something if one of the bricks were damaged during removal or install.

Our shop in Texas specializes in these cars. We do on average about 2 per month on the jag engines. Yes head gaskets and chains are the headache. They over heat because the plastic hoses under the super charger break and start leaking.

kind of like the plastic coolant elbows underneath the alternator on a GM 3800 V6; they are a known weak spot in the cooling system besides the Lower Intake Manifold gaskets on the Series IIs.

Where are you located in Texas? I have a 2017 F-Pace and I'm losing coolant and getting what I believe are exhaust gases in the coolant system. No milky oil. But definitely the white smoke like in this video. Y pipe and others have been replaced. Then thermostat split open about 6 months later. Replaced that one myself. But now I need to figure out if I'm looking at a head gasket with this loss of more coolant and the coolant system getting pressurized.

@@henryli4477 I have not found a solution to the Jag failing to shut down, besides disconnecting the battery for 15-20 seconds. Some Ftype owners say that they can use certain OBD2 equipment with out needing to reset the car after use. So it is probably due to a communication interaction between the device and the Jaguar’s CAN bus.

its either head gaskets or the water to air cooler at the top of the supercharger, pull the first thing off the top of that motor, flip it over ( cover coolant line ports and pressure test, there are two internal heat exchangers that feed right into the intake ports right on both sides of the supercharger..... also you must rest the BMS battery monitoring system and make sure you put in the exact battery it had and is a LI-ion battery.

That engine did not sound nearly as great on that second start. There was a bit of a knock/clack that sounds like a potential issue worse than just a head gasket or something. Could have been the supercharger though, which clearly has something going on with it.

To me it sounds like the supercharger coupler, you can kind of hear the distinctive "marbles tumbling around" sound while it's running.

@@Hdogdog7 What is the coupler in the SC? Like the pulley?
@Hdogdog7

@@zxggwrt Kind of, it's part of the snout of the supercharger behind the pulley, and once they start going bad it can sound like marbles rolling around in a metal can.

Ya, I don't know. I've had 3 of these engines. Well x2 3.0 and x1 5.0 in thr SVR. All have that unique, albeit unrefined "loose marbles" sound.

That is exactly what I would expect the trunk of a Jag in that condition would look like. Cars that get trashed are usually full of trash.

I dunno, is this car trashed? It looks like it's in pretty decent shape. It was left outside for 6-9 months and it's filthy. Other than that, and a coolant leak and a few assorted Jaguar design flaws, it seems fine. It's going to buff right out.

That exhaust pipe looks like the one on the 60’s bat mobile.😂

Nissan VQ Swap? It would be funny to hear a trumpet engine in this Jaguar.

The air charge cooler is the top of the super charger. I have seen those leak.
