Wow, it looks like this video just got picked up by the algorithm! This has been my most viewed, commented, and liked video yet! And I've gotten like over 300 new subscribers from this video alone! Thanks Victor! :D
I watched this vid, and 2 minutes in I verbally yelled out "OH MY GOD I PLAYED THIS GAME" My family had a Wii u and me and my siblings used to play the long jump and that race for hours on end
Pffhehehe- as a kid there was this game where you played as an animal protagonist from a entirely lighthearted show, only for the game to be about literally escaping a taxedermy museum before you get taxidermied. The protagonists are a mole and a mosquito.
@@strawberryshortpup3655 looked up that name and it seems like thats a tv show and not a game, if anyone can find the game tho i wanna know what it's called
Judging by the interaction between Bartholomew and Theophilus, Bartholomew is maybe just maybe in love with Theophilus ignoring the fact they ARE brothers... Bruce would be better for Bartholomew two weirdos would be a perfect match for each other. lmao
i interpreted it more as "didn't expect you to be a romantic" in the notion of romanticism of the heroic and sentimental rather than... anything weird going on between them. because he was talking about the player making memories. particularly with the "didn't mean it as a compliment" thing. i think, just poorly worded banter
If you want to play more dark games that involve tending to more sick dogs I recommend The Dog Island. Similar style game although the animals' proportions are a little different.
Yeah I found out about that game during the making of this video actually! Apparently it's made by the exact same studio and was developed at around the same time! Even reused some of the enemy models.
As soon as I saw the text boxes, I immediately could tell it was made by the same people as The DOG Island developers. I actually have a tattoo from that game because of how much I loved it as a kid
Yeah Ubisoft had this whole thing where they would publish games from random developers and stick them under their meta series titles, despite thematic incoherency- the PC version of Imagine Fashion Designer had an (unresolved) murder mystery, animal trafficking, and the player character getting kidnapped. (There were a lot of old flash games that fit into the “twist horror” thing- Can Your Pet, and a number of MLP fan games, but none of those were officially published or anything. Atashi no Riri was the ancestor to Doki Doki Literature Club, but the whole horror thing was only on one route out of many- Hatoful Boyfriend (originally released in 2011 (before the newer remake that was made after the original engine stopped being supported)) also had that thing where it’s a sudden horror thing, but in two routes- there are other ways to die, but they’re played for comedic effect, not drama or horror; the sequel also did that bait and switch, but it should have been expected by that point- though if I remember correctly, BBL from the first game had more comedic relief than The Day The Night Slept (After) did. But no one dies in that one, so?)
I remember I played this as a kid, though I don't remember if it was Catz or Dogz. I constantly replayed it but never actually got past fixing one or two of the buildings iirc because I kept losing interest SO FAST. I don't even think I met Sai at all. I now want to beat it but my mom sold my Wii and WiiU a long time ago.
You can play it through an emulator, such as dolphin, with the game being common enough for there being quite a lot of videos of it I’m sure the rom is available to download to play on the emulator, I’d recommend Dolphin, although I think there might be another one
This is an amazing video! Not many people know about the game, but it truely is creepy. I could not progress my game that far cause of all the critters that wanted to just kill you scared me. Keep up the great work!!
the fact that gongoro peak has the most happy sounding music yet is one of the most deadly areas and is even almost like THE final area always gives me the chills
this reminds me a lot of the dog island, which is also a kids game with some really dark themes!!! little spoiler warning, basically the basic TLDR of the game is that your sister is dying of some unknown disease, and you, a puppy, have to travel to the dog island to find the doctor that knows how to heal your sister.
Oh! I played a Petz game! It was not at *all* like this, though, lol You just raised a bunch of cute animals to a certain age, and then I think sold them or something 😅
Yeah, this one was pretty different ^^' I think it's because this one was made by the same studio that made "Dog Island" (which was also this kind of "adventure" fetch quest style of game) Whereas most "Normal" Petz games were made by PF Magic and Ubisoft!
@CutCafe The reason for the difference is actually really interesting. This game was not actually a sequel to petz cats or petz dogs. Originally, it was its own standalone game created and published by a different company in Japan. (The original name was something along the line of "Kitten and the magic hat.") When Ubisoft got the rights to publish it in North America, they branded it as a petz game because they thought it would sell better.
not to nitpick but as my childhood dog was a russell I'd like to point out that /is/ a jack russell. They come in multiple coat types - the one in the game is a smooth coat, the example you showed was a wire hair!
I still own the cat version of game to this day, lol, nice to see representation. But man I always thought of this game as a lighthearted cute kids' game and I never questioned any of this until you pointed out how dark it is. I do remember being afraid of the hostile wild animals and being super super terrified of the quartz cave though, and I remember finding Lonesome Park ominous and liking it.
I had this game as a kid too! I was an idiot baby gamer and couldn’t figure out how to save the game so I never got very far. I was also really into The Dog Island, which is supposed to be in the same series I think? They were really similar anyways. They were both a big part of my childhood even though I never finished either haha. I am happy to say that I have drawn fanart for this game before
This game reminds me (down to having the same models for the snakes, giraffe and bear) of another rather dark game I loved on PS2 from the same era, Dog Island. Rather than dealing with a world ending event it focused on the protagonist's younger sibling's worsening chronic illness, and learning how to sniff out the ingredients for an eventual cure. A lot of similar plot points among the NPCs and shared assets, but it was probably the lighter of the two.
I thought I was the only one being creeped out by this game as a kid, the enemies terrified me and the poison swamp section made me cry :,) This video also unlocked a memory for me, that one part where you have to throw a rock at the crane? In my language they used the same word to say the crane and the snakes, so I kept throwing rocks at all the snakes on the beach and just ignored the bird, because why would I chuck rocks at something that's not attacking me. I was stuck for at least an hour...
Pokemon was also surprisingly dark at times too. It's kinda spooky when games for kids get away with.. well. Spooky stuff that could traumatize those kids.
YOOO I remember this game!! I was so young when I got this game, and half of the dogs I made were just a bunch of letters mashed together into gibberish because I wanted their names to be “exotic” lol. I also spent so much time trying to get all the quests done because I thought that would get Victor out of jail- but no, this child just rots in jail for the rest of his life 🫠
That is indeed absolutely a hack Russell terrier. They can have smooth coats too and people dock their tails, so it could be longer or shorter. Brittany spaniels- the actual difference is they have larger ears, their chest is more robust compared to a jack terrier, longer legs, different skull build, and usually longer hair in areas that a non-smooth jackrussle would have. The spanielis ofcourse bigger as well but in a puppy game smol legs can be disregarded. Hope this helps! Doing a bit of more research can help against further false corrections as well. ^^; Many many dogs can come in this coat colora
Petz Dogz 2 historian here! I’ve never actually seen anyone describe this game something.. dark. I did find this game to be kinda chilling as a kid, especially when some of the enemies attack you out of nowhere, but never a dark game! If anything I find this game, despite my nostalgia for it, to be kinda bad ngl especially with how they made the protag portrayed as pretty stupid! You want a dark puppy game? You should check out a similar game the same developers made, THE DOG Island!
I always assumed that a game with a name like Petz Dogz 2 would be a straightforward pet simulator where you adopt and care for dogs. Thank you for educating me about how it's actually a fantasy adventure game where you, a talking puppy, must stop an evil anime wolf from using a magical hat to destroy the universe.
I'm ALSO a MAJOR Petz Dogz 2 enjoyer, playing it again like 10 years later... I had NO idea it was so deep? 😭😭 I heard the PD2 audio and should've known something was up
PETZ CATS AND DOGS 2 MY BELOVED!!! i had these games as a small child and still own them now! i played both versions SO many times on my ps2 and i really REALLY hope we get a sequel… it’s unlikely but oh my goodness i want one so badly. i was always so scared of the snakes when i was little haha, i was also so sad that there was no postgame after you beat the final boss, so i always got put back before the final boss and made new saves constantly whenever completed the game. and when i say i made new saves to replay the games. i did this MULTIPLE times whenever i finished the game, plus 100% usually, so take how long the game is usually and take a little kid doing that MULTIPLE times over MANY years without getting bored.
update; because of this video, i’ve been replaying catz 2 and still love it so much catz 2 doesn’t have different pelt options for the breeds of cats, and that there’s still a tail wag when you dig up items for the cats probably left over from dogz 2
You should look at the first game where your quest is to find medicine to keep your sick brother from dying. Oh yeah. Your dad also disappeared forever trying to find this same legendary medicine.
I remember when i played this when i was a kid (it too was my childhood fav lmao) i was absolutely terrified of my dog getting hurt, i was really scared of game over screens for some reason lmao, but i DREADED lonesome park whenever i got to that point in the game, i was petrified of the tornadoes and yeah i completely forgot YOU SKIN A LIZARD ALIVE 10/10 game will play again sometime
I never thought I'd see this again. I'm pretty sure I played this as a kid myself. A lot of the UI and the plot was so familliar that it put a smile on my face. I swear though, I thought I remembered the plot a bit differently. I could've sworn that Victor put on the hat and was corrupted and betrayed you because of it, I'm not sure why. Am I remembering a different, but similar game or something? Or am I just crazy lol
I have both Catz and Dogz, personally adore these games and love seeing someone talk about them! I remember the enemies and tornados scaring me a lot when I was way younger lol
OH MY GOSH I HAVENT FINISHED THIS YET BUT I SCREAMED WHEN I REALIZED YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT PETS DOGZ 2 THIS GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD, BUT NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT 😭 honestly it still holds up HAVEN’T FINISHED THE VIDEO YET BUT THANK YOU 😭
LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID. When I played it as a kid my character got bit by one the venomous snakes, I kept trying to use normal healing items bc I forgot about the antidote💀 eventually ran out and started running around panicked until my character died lol, gave child me quite the scare XD. Whenever see this game's soundtrack used i get so nostalgic
I used to play this all the time, but i have this memory of my aunt playing it; she was in this ice cave with livet, so i look everywhere in my playthrough for the cave but never found it so i thought it must be a thing you find after the main Qwest, so i bought everything in the clothing shop (i really liked to dress up my dog) and went to fight him expecting to go back to town and keep playing bit instead it ended and I cried to the end theme (. . . I still cry to the end theme. its really good, the whole soundtrack is) i just realize the even though i remember all the areas i forgot almost all the story, partly because i ignored it and made up my own story.
i know the dog island has been brought up in the comments several times already, but u never actually knew it shared developers with this game! then again i havent seen much footage of it before, but one of my friends had this as one of their childhood games too and often said how much it reminded them of the dog island lol (that being said, the dog island was *my* childhood game, it almost feels like its the 3rd version of a pokemon game to dogz/catz 2)
HELL YEAH!!!!!! I’m so glad to see even more love for this game!!!!! I run a little discord based on it and it blows my mind how so many more people have apparently played it ^^ You’ve also got a good point about the horror aspects. I have a lot of memories of being so terrified of certain locations and enemies that I would have my mum play for me lmao.
Bro I had the same thing, I’d force my older brother to play for me. Though I’m not sure if it was just me being a wimp in general cause I did the same thing with Skylanders.
Oh my goodness. Little 10 year old me spent SO MANY HOURS completing the main storyline of this game (cats version), and I’d completely forgotten about it until this video! I still remember how horrible the fishing was, and how the motion sensor on my wii was too crummy for me and my short little kid arms to beat the zoo minigames! Running around the map took SO LONG, especially with the temperature mechanics, I always hated the snowy area because I got lost. This makes me want to go back and replay it, maybe even finish the side quests because I totally abandoned it after defeating the wolf. Thank you for reminding me that this game exists
THIS IS LIKE THE DOG ISLAND HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!! I love that game and it’s super dark too. That was my personal childhood “horror” game as a kid. I still love it and got the wii game’s japanese art tattooed on me
I am so thrilled somebody made a video about this omg. Pets Dogz 2 and The Dog Island were my childhood comfort games and I'm always happy to see anyone talk about either of them.
You are so underrated. I clicked on the video and I was like. “Oh this guy is funny they must have so many subscribers” and then I looked and I was so surprised
Oh my god I wasn’t expecting this Catz 2 was one of my favorite wii games actually I vividly remember one evening on the day I first got the game I was so excited to go home since we were at the park That game means a lot to me
I actually FELT the bit about the siligo and swordfish because as a younger lad, I attempted to beat Pokémon platinum with only flying types, I needed a beautifly to beat the first gym, and if you didn’t know, the only way to get a beautifly at that point in the game is to catch a wurmple, evolve it into a silcoon, then into a beautifly. The only hitch to this is that there’s a 50 percent chance of a wurmple evolving into a silcoon and 50 percent chance of it evolving into a cascoon. I could only use the silcoon so I just needed to catch one, level it three levels, and see if I get a silcoon. This should reasonably take…one attempt? Two? Three? No, it took SEVEN attempts to get a silcoon wurmple. I sat there, leveling up wurmple after wurmple, hoping THIS time is the time. It was excruciating.
Wait... This is what Petz Dogs 2 is? See... I always remembered Petz being an attempt at a pet simulator. This looks a lot more like that The Dog game the Game Grumps played
I replayed this game back in January, and it was such a nostalgia trip. I remember being so scared of the snakes that I never got far in the game. Describing the plot to people who know nothing about it is always a joy.
I had this exact same game except it was petz *catz* 2, it was also my childhood game. I forgot about it for damn near a decade until one day I pulled the disc out of the damned, deep, dark forbidden crevices of.... my garage (dundundunn). Then all my memories came flooding back. I managed to find my ANCIENT wii too, popped it in and it still had my old ass save file from when i was 5. Turns ot i remebered abt this game more than i thought. i was obsessed w this game❤ probably my biggest nostalgia trip
Seeing this threw me back to my childhood when i was obsessed with this game called My Baby: First Steps on ds, i played it over and over again, talking to my baby all the time. It was weirdly soothing for me
I remember this game!!! I fell in love with the first one and found this one about 5 years later but never finished it. The first one was the only thing i would play on the Wii cuz i loved it so much ^^
I'm not easily disturbed at all nor was I ever but damn DDLC needed a warning specifically for depression cause that one Sayori moment just caused me to dissociate for a few hours and I just stared at the screen blankly as I saw the most relatable character just do something *COMPLETELY MAGICAL AND PERFECTLY OKAY!! JUST MONIKA* 😅
This video made me...unbelievably happy. Even had me busting out the ps2 to replay the game! Hearing the soundtrack in the background of the video did things to my poor old soul. Long live Beat. Thanks for the throwback fun!
Dude this game was my favorite ever, specifically the dogz version, i still play through it from time to time, its absolutely dark, especially for a damn petz game
Its genuinely shocking that I'm not the only person who knows about Petz Dogz 2, this was also my childhood but I never finished it so I didn't know it was dark...
When I clicked this video I was NOT prepared for it to be about Petz Dogz 2 but I just watched the full thing and every point you made checks out my guy.
BRO I had Petz Cats 2 and this video brought back the memories! I don't think that I ever finished the game, but I definitely remembered the intro and the various enemies. As a small child, I just wanted to explore the area, really, and not actually play the game, from what I remember, but still! The memories, man!
Thank you so much! I've been using the free version VidIQ a lot to help me be seen by the all mighty algorithm so I'd recommend using it if you haven't already! It's been surprisingly helpful (except for shoving the many paid plans in your face). And Good luck to you too! ^w^
1:46 I do wanna note that that is, in fact, a jack russell terrier. I couldn’t tell if you were joking, but you can get short-haired russells and a lot of them have their tails docked by breeders (here in the UK anyways). Like I said, no idea if you were joking, but that is 100% a jack russell 😅
Yeah that's a mistake on my end! There aren't many Short-Haired Russell where I live, and seeing as I'm a really big fan of Brittany Spaniels, I thought they used the wrong breed for the name. Whoops! 😅
@@CutCafeOh I see! That explains it! They’re very common in short-haired form where i live :) I love Brittany Spaniels too, easy mistake to make! Edit: Also! I really liked this video! I can’t wait to see more from you :)
algorithm showed me this and i thought id give it a look. some of your jokes really cracked me up! grand theft doggo was clever lmao, definitely earned a sub
Having to search for that one pup in that one hut scared me Mainly because I couldn't see that the image on the bottom was the dog's face, and I misinterpreted it as a ghost, which always spooked me back then
I used to play this game as a kid, I got the Dogz version. And watching this is unlocking memory's from this game, I remember enjoying it. The only part's of the game that scared me as a kid for some reason was the animals with the thought bubbles like there anger or happy or whatever is may be. And even the music sometimes in some areas of the game. But at the vary end of the game when you had to fight the wolf guy I was like nope, had my parent help me fight it. Because I was too scared.
OH MY GOD! It’s Petz Dogz 2! I LOVED this game when I was little! I loved running around Dolphin Coast for fun and collecting all the outfits! I remember after beating the game I would visit Victor in hopes he would someday leave jail. I visited him every time I opened the game lol!
I LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID bro the villain for some reason scared me SO much as a kid i never got to finish it but it was a childhood fav of mine and nobody i talk too know of it! so i'ma try to spread this video to some of my friend groups to experince it
it's nuts, the amount of shock that hit me with seeing the models from here and immediately thinking of the Dog Island, which was MY childhood 'oh this is fucked up' game
I had the cat version as a little girl and like. I remember that the final boss scared me so badly as a little kid that I had to make other people fight it for me while I left the room. But yeah I was genuinely scared to buy other Petz games as a little kid because I thought it’d be just as scary or something (I was not the brightest child) (Also I’m the friend silverroll mentioned lol. I’ve told friends about the game a few times because it’s such a big part of my childhood)
OMG I LOVED (was traumatized as well) THAT GAME TOO! We had both catz and dogz but eventually had to get rid of one because we 'didn't need two of the same game'
IVE NEVER SEEN A SINGLE BIT OF CONTENT FOR THIS GAME. THIS GAME MAKES ME SO HAPPY ITS PART OF MY CHILDHOOD AND ITS GENUINELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES. i played it all the way up until my ps3 with backwards compatibility broke and it makes me SO upset that there’s almost NO content on this game
YES this game truamatized me so much as a kid. Use to rent it at the library all the time though lol. I actually recently found it at a used game store and bought it, though its the ps2 version
I played this game as a kid too[although the cat version]! one of my favorites growing up, and even played it recently. Although I guess I forgot about some of the stuff that takes place in the game haha. I actually think that you should look into Dog Island for more, strange themes to be honest. its made by the same developers in the same year. I actually have yet to beat it as I melted my wii with the game... but I did play it recently on an emulator! some things I found strange for a kids game were, the doctor character reminiscing his dead wife, his assistant is scared of blood because she thinks she killed someone, there's a dog gang that used to do nice things then turned bad, the character that helps you got kicked out of their dimension for "pulling to many pranks." oh and your sibling is terminally ill, and you risk your life to find the only thing to cure them. Theres so many other things and I need to finish the game,, but sincerely hope that if you like pets dogs 2, you'll like this game too!
