You're doing a great job bonding them slowly but Knox behavior in that second play is a slight concern the way he would back into that corner and constantly mount Finn with every interaction. Finn is very friendly though so hoping Knox settles down a bit.

I really appreciate how slowly you're taking things. Chins look so sweet and gentle, but they can be fluffy hell on wheels when they want to be too. These two fellas are so beautiful

Love how they both seemed to consider jumping from your lap to the toilet lid. Always close your toilet lid! They will try to jump up places where they can't quite see what's up there. My fellows loved the floor to lid to tank to countertop jumps!

First time chinchilla owner here... kind of a rescue situation. Got him yesterday. I've rescued bunnies before, and lots of other animals, but never chinchillas. I have done as much extensive research that someone can do in two days, but I have a few concerns: 1. Water bottle - the first Katee glass-bottle rolled out of the car and broke, so we purchased another... same one, so I know he is used to it. But the night we got him I noticed that when he was drinking his water, he seemed to be angry, biting and pulling at it. He seemed as though he was extremely thirsty but couldn't get the water out fast enough. I did see Tiny water bubbles going up now and then while he was drinking, and I did check it with my finger, so I know that water was in fact coming out. It just seemed that maybe not enough is coming out? I've never had these type of water bottles before so I wasn't sure. I wanted to see if he was really thirsty so I gave him a little tiny bowl of water... he was chugging it like he hasn't had water in days! Of course his chin got wet while drinking so I dried it the best I could and then he went for a dust bath. This happened again last night and then again today. I was thinking that he was just really thirsty because when we went to pick him up, the water bottle was literally bone-dry. But is it a possibility that he is just not getting enough water out of this bottle? I check it all the time, and it doesn't really seem consistent. But most of the time it doesn't really seem as though it is coming out as much as it should 🤷‍♀️ should I try a different bottle? I know it can't be good for him to keep drinking out of the bowl but I feel really bad for him. I don't leave it in his cage... just offer it when I see him getting frustrated. 2. Itching - I see him itching different parts of his body sometimes. Mostly his back, arms and legs, and stomach. He is still pretty squirmy and so I haven't really been able to check his skin very good yet. When I'm tying to look, it looks like it could possibly be a little red/pink? And, this morning I noticed that there was a chunk of fur sitting in his cage, and another little chunk that was hanging off of his back. I know that this can be perfectly normal, but I'm a little worried. Especially because his living conditions were pretty dirty and I know he didn't have very much attention. Any advice? He is a sweet little boy and likes to be pet 🥰 PS - I have read that I am supposed to switch out the hay every single day? Considering how much hay I'm putting all over in different places, it would be ridiculously expensive to have to change it out every single day. Is this information just put out by the hay companies? I have seen how much hay everyone puts in their cages... how could anyone possibly afford to be switching all of that hay out every single day 🤷‍♀️

I am adopting two chins at the end of this month! I have a question about the play pens; i got the same pens so i can use them for play time. Is covering them in fleece completely necessary? I assumed it was to prevent them from climbing! Also, how are they attached to the gate? Is it just with safety pins? p.s. thank you SO much for all the resources and help your channel provides. I have never owned chins before, ane your channel is my absolute favorite when doing research!

I have 2 boy chinchillas, they used to get along amazing they would snuggle and sleep and the younger one would cry if they were apart, now the younger one is dead set on attacking the older one ON SIGHT and the older one is terrified of him. they have been seperated in different cage areas. do you think they could be rebonded at some point?

With chins of different colors, how do you tell what their temperatures are, or if their feet are in good condition for example? I know with lighter colors chins it's more apparent because their skin is lighter, but with darker colors like Knox, or even chins with spotted features, is there a better way than just squinting and trying to figure it out? 😅

I was wondering if you have any advise on how to re-bond chinchillas? My two boys lived together for several years, had one random fight in their cage and ever since I’ve had to keep them in separate cages as they just chase each other and end up squabbling, barking and “tumble weeding”?

By the way, there was something dark in the black one. Now he is Uranus-Saturn, and the gray is female. They are the ancestors of the Filipino. They are adorable. They are a monkey Cat and mouse hybrid and are highly intelligent. But the diet is important. The gray might like some diluted coconut milk.

You’re such an amazing owner - but every time you call him noxy I think you’re saying nazi 😭

I took zoology in college for my third semester for my science and engineering degree. Mounting is not aggression or bad. It's a way to communicate with each other that they are capable of being loyal and strong. I believe Knox is a flirt because he's a dominant male. Finn is not a dominant male so he's going to be submissive and return, he's going to check if Knox is a good leader by coming back to allow him to mount him. Think of Knox as being a king and Finn is the knight standing beside his King. Also, animals are bisexual, they don't care what gender they are. Affection is important to help build healthy relationships. We human beings complicate things by judging each other and dividing each other into gender roles and age. Chinchillas don't do that. They are going to choose one who is strongest and most capable of being the leader. Knox is perfect for leading, he's very calm and patient. Finn is excited and free spirited he wants to serve and protect. He even tried to get out to explore the outside area. Knox just stayed home and sniffed around waiting for Finn to return. It's very cute and adorable the way they interact. It's like watching a TV show. I am going to call it Chinchillas In The Dust. 😅 ❤
