I was raised in "The Truth." I'm 60. I wasn't sexually abused by a worker but my older sister claims to have been, by a worker named Ira Hobbs who is probably dead by now. The weird thing is, even though my sister claims to have been sexually molested by Ira, when her 'favorite' worker named Leslie White was formerly charged with sexual assault of a female worker several years ago, my sister went on a blog and verbally attacked the female worker, calling her a liar, etc. even though Leslie had also tried to 'tongue' kiss my sister at one point. This sister is still 'so-called' professing but she is money-hungry to the point that she has 'duped' several people, she drinks wine, has tv and movie dvd's, goes to movies, etc. It's sad how the members think all they have to do is 'dress appropriately, profess, attend the meetings Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and stay loyal to the workers - who they consider almost as perfect as God, and they'll go straight to Heaven. I told my sister - by mistake - that I was watching Laura today and she gave the typical 2x2 response: "yeah, the Bible speaks of 'falling away' in the end days and that it will be a test of our faith." I hope Laura has a public email address because I would love to talk to her more. Another great book was written by Kathleen Lewis called "The Church Without A Name." It's time these LIARS pay for taking advantage of God-loving people who were either raised with the lies or were just looking for salvation and were taken advantage of by control freaks. I work hard every day not to be bitter about no Christmas, my entire childhood. No Christmas, no Christmas tree or presents, no school sports, nothing. Just wasted years. And we only get one life and I've spent a lot of my life being so scared that I'll never be perfect enough to get to Heaven. I still have trouble getting that fear out of my head. It's just sickening.
@@Ohhhhawew. I’m 85 years old, and I was raised in the faith, and until,a few months ago, I believed that it was the only way to Heaven, now I know the WAY is rotten all the way to the center. I have no idea what the future holds, but the rot has to be removed.
I was born into "the truth" and did get molested by one of the "friends". It was immediately dismissed when the issue was brought out to an "elder". No legal or spiritual counseling ever happened. These people are given access to children by the workers staying in homes with minors with complete trust by the parents. The rules are extremely restricted and stripped me of any personal expression. I think many of these folks go in to it with innocent intentions. However, the elders will have you abstain from meetings for a man growing a beard, but totally ignore the child abuse issues. No accountability or checks and balances within the group. Being in from 2-16, it totally traumatized me, brainwashed me and sent me on a very dark path after leaving. In fact, I spoke to a couple of elder workers this weekend and brought up the molestation and they advised me to put the past behind me. And I largely have. But it shocked me at the hypocrisy. If you're a woman with short hair or pants on, you'll be seen as sinful and 'of the world '. But they let predators run amuck. The workers move across the globe. Who is to say, if there is abuse in the US, elders can send them to the Philippines or Germany to avoid allegations or legal action.
@Ohhhhawew now you know that is absolutely incorrect. It happened to me. I've seen it done with others. 14 year witness. Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it's not happening. Protect your kids if you have them, please. No human being is perfect or immune to being a predator. No disrespect intended. I'm sure you're well intentioned individual. But factually, you are incorrect that there is absolutely no abuse amongst workers and friends.
These groups and institutions should be compelled by law to be accountable for the wrongs they committed to young and old in the past. The redress scheme and royal commission should be given more and adequate powers to compensate victims. The self righteous hypocrisy amongst these secretive religious groups, especially concerning sexually immorality is quite astonishing. Thanks so much for sharing.
I was raised in this church in Northern Ireland, although in a very odd way. My father married into it and his family were very aristocratic, and I was brought up by domestic servants who weren't 2x2. I always remember that being a bone of contention at home because my father always said "the workers are just illerate peasants" but we also had to go to the meetings and conventions. On the one hand we were told to do as they said but on the other hand we were constantly told they were social inferiors and treat them like a peasant. Both my parents would make us sit through hours of meetings a week but also say, "if you don't go to university and marry well you might have to become one of those pathetic little workers." It was very confusing.
They came to my house, wanting to invite me to a meeting in a community centre in Youghal Ireland, but the women were the speakers. It was very strange when I went to the meeting no one talked to me afterwards and everyone just left immediately. Strange, I did feel like I was going back 100 years as far as the music and the style of the meeting.
My brother and I experienced CSA in the group. My folks still profess. Its tough still having to have ties to this group. I am 5th gen. I left at 28 yo. But still have family in it.
Hey same, I'm not sure how long it's been going on in my family, at least 5 generations. My parents divorced partially because my dad decided to leave. But my mom and both sides of my entire massive family are pretty much ALL in it. My brother and I left too, so him and I showing up with tattoos, and I in jeans and makeup to the family is quite the oggling session. I've come to just find the humor in it at this point because I can't really hang out with or connect with most of my own family. And I know he and I bring "shame" to our mom and grandparents when we show up looking like that in front of like 100 cult members.
Hey there, I'm a survivor of the 2x2s myself. I'm 1 of 5 kids in my family, and none of us stayed, except 1 who is kind of half in and half out of it. And I honestly think he only stays for fear of the extreme judgement he will face. Especially with social media and kids being less isolated from the rest of the world, it is definitely dying. Their tactics aren't working as well anymore. As for having a read about Dean Bruer, they would only view it as "their enemies/the world" sending false information because they have bitter spirits or simply do not know "the way" and are lost. They basically view it as wrong and untrue to read anything religious besides the bible or anything shedding light on their scandals.
I was raised in this religious group too and had the good fortune to not be aware of abuse growing up. I am sure it was happening---for some strange reason I didn't cross paths with the abuse. Not because of anything I did---its just that nothing happened to me or around me. Very strange I know. I saw firsthand the fellowship in several other countries as well as in the US and it was only later when I was in my twenties that I began to see clues that abuse had to be going on in the fellowship - regardless of the denials. I realized how prolific the abuse was when I gradually found out about behaviors of some of the perverts---it's totally wrong and unjust - and ungodly - behavior that has gone on too long. I had no direct evidence that could stand in court unfortunately. Many victims were manipulated to keep silent and so perverts escaped accountability. Leadership is responsible for convincing so many to keep silent and for continuing this as full behavior so long. They each will have to stand before God one day. There are many honest and upright people still in this group and their children and grandchildren must be protected from the wolves (the perverts) among them! I encourage all "friends" to stay alert to the clues of sex abuse and keep a protective boundary around the children. Report every pervert you become aware of and call them out before the church --- it doesn't matter who they are or what role they are in. The times of perverts escaping by being moved around or transferred MUST be over! Jesus said Many are called but Few are chosen. I believe there are many who come to this religious group and many of them have untrue intentions but a Few have true spirits and good behaviors. Those few are the ones to seek out for they are the true "friends".
The issue here (my husbands family belongs , but not my husband ) it is very hard to hold them accountable when they do not have a registered group - so the survivors of the CSA have very little recourse even for a class action suit which they so deserve. They are going to need help for years !
I was Married into a family for about 6 years, I had a unique vantage point Being Baptists and not "Professing". It was Unsettling at times and we agreed to disagree on the clash of beliefs. I was surpisingly allowed to Observe the church house meetings and was even allowed to see the yearly conventions. This was when the internet was fairly new and the first books were being written.
I was brought up in this also.... left when i was 19.... very naive.... and had a lot of things happen. Was molested by an uncle... who also abused his daughter.
If you want the Royal Commission to trail the money, they need the workers lists with the c/o addresses. These are the elders who have hid the money for the workers.
I live in Australia & I am 36 years old & I left the truth witch is called the Two by Two's when I was 16 years old like my beautiful mother did as well she also left way before I got out. I was sexaully abused by my big brother when I was about 12 years old & his still in the Two by Two's & so is my father & father's brother as well. My father's brother is one of the workers in the Two by Two's.
Oh my goodness! Cant belive ive found this! My mother in law is part of this cult. Like said in the video they refer to themselves as 'truth', women have to wear buns in their hair, modern things like TV, Radio, Phones, Tablets are forbidden (or at least fround upon), or least things are meant to be like that... Its quite funny because we find that alot of the time these people will have their TVs or radios but will hurriedly hide them away when those sunday meeting role round. The buns in the hair will drop during the week, but then back up on a sunday. Also considering they refer to themselves as 'truth', they are made up of lying, devious people. They will lie, and cover things up to protect people that they see as having a certain status. There are things that have gone on with people in their little clik that make my skin crawl. But it all gets brushed under the carpet. Not sure, about them being penniless though. The people in our area seem to be obbsessed withb surrounding themselves with wealth, and if your, from what they deem, a poor background or poorly educated say, then your there to be sniggered at. No matter how good, honest, or hardworking you may be, yhey will treat you like an outcast. I feel for anyone caught up in this group
I was raised in the truth and not in it now and they were very nice people and as far as I knew no problems like as mentioned here. I left because I was not very religious . I think they were too restrictive especially for women and rediculus claims as being only religion to get to heaven in.
@spencer2660 - You say the truth isn't like what I posted? What country or city are you in? And how old are you? I'm over 55 and when I was growing up, everything I posted was the truth and I was still being nice. It was a lot worse than I even posted on here.
And look at you now, you keep saying we, it’s 2023 everything has changed! lol you getting paid for this? I don’t know where tightknit comes from, this is 60-99 years! A cult built on splits & schisms. Time to stop hiding & face up to allegations!! I was a part of this group 40yrs ago, left, went straight to a traditional church (took me 2yrs of correct bible teaching to rid myself of brainwashing lies & doctrines) was a light bulb moment that saved me ❤
