It was the sound of the wind and waves while getting under weigh that brought back the memories of cruises past. Thank you, beautiful job and beautiful boat.
She's beautiful. Reminds me of a 29ft Staniland I once owned.... sadly, it was too much work for me to keep her back then. Great seaboard and will stand some weather too..
As you say.. very nice: traditional boat, traditional owner in traditional clothes and while a life jacket may spoil the decor it could be in matching black and would be a very good idea foa single hander in any conditions. Never mind the pride accidents happen and other people have to be involved in rescue. Only thing that spoiled the video but thank you.
I’ve just reread Magic of The Swatchways. September 2018. Seems MG spent most of his voyages bumping into or onto the sandbanks of the Thames Estuary, and Essex creeks, or leaping in to the shoal water to pull his many boats off the sand. Every chapter touches bottom. Every voyage was a trial. He frequently referred to his wife, usually simply as The Mate, and gave scant regard to her own high sailing and skippering skills.
Hi guys. Loving your videos. I'm new to sailing and just been offered a 26ft sloop wooden boat from 1966. She's in superb condition and been excellently maintained over the years. A few people are telling me I'm ma buying a wooden boat and will spend more time maintaining her than actually sailing lol. Wondered what you guys think on the matter. Be fascinating to her from you. 👍
two words- love lee ! Like the cozy opening scene.. lighting the lantern and mumbling bout the view.. great photography again ... cozy I am .. drizzling now in Monterey Ca... i have my cooker producing and candles are flickering to pipes and waves sloshing .. thanks Bob !
I'll do that for sure.. my boat Tug, is unique because she's masgurades as a boat inside.. yet is truly a truck ! A 2001 Ford Econoline, once a Sportsmobile.. full of ugly materials.. now carrying on more like the little cabin I always imagined thru my younger days ~ so, I'll post you some shots, I promise . Sincerely Canyon
My name is Danny I'm looking for my first and last perfect boat and I think your boat is first class and wat I'm looking for. I'll be ready next year to buy and live the rest of my life out on wat ever boat I get. I loved your vid and u take cair m8. And wen I'm looking for a boat maybe u can advise. D
What a pretty boat. Reminds me of the Hiscock's Wanderer 11, although she was Laurent Giles, of course. And you've got to love a man who looks as if he was born in his hat.
What a beauty! Right out of the early 20th century: Bowler hat, no PFD, no life lines. He could probably walk that deck under sail with his cup of tea and not spill a drop. Nice film. Thanks for sharing it.
Fantastic Footage and a beautiful old boat, I know that coast line well. I come from Leigh on Sea and used to be on Southend Life Boat. Now living in Poole, Dorset, I often reminisce about my old stomping ground.
I remember an English boarder my parents took in and we saw him interviewed in newspaper clipping years later. The reporter asked him what was his secret to reaching 100 years of age? He said he liked to start the day off right with bacon and eggs.He lived to 102 years young!!! CHEERS from Western Canada!
A good boat is like a fine wine, they get better with age. From a time when boats were built for purpose rather than just to cheat the racing rules. Beautiful.
Since my first comment 2 years ago, I have researched Peter Gerrard in as much detail as possible, including reading DD’s book “Magician of the The Swatchways “and her own book “Who Desires the Sea”. An utterly fascinating and strongly independently minded woman. Her own craft Juanita is still working somewhere around the UK coast. If anyone out there has any memories or reminiscences I would appreciate hearing from you.
I think this would be the size of boat and sail rig that makes sailing a pleasure......it epitomises the very nature of "just messing about in a boat".
What a great piece. Thoroughly enjoyable with useful tips. It was also great to see that when short handed these well behaved old girls with give you that extra time that a young-un does not. Wonderful
