A few months ago I was at the CMP store at Camp Perry to hopefully get a WW II Service grade rifle. None of them were from that era. There were only 2 Field grade rifles that were from that era, and I chose one of those. I just cleaned the stock with LA's Totally Awesome cleaner from the dollar store, and a small, stiff brush. After drying I wiped food grade flaxseed oil on it. It only took 3 coats. Now, it is incredibly beautiful. All the darkest grime is gone now and the whole stock is the same, even, rich color. It still has it's vintage look and looks very classy. I highly recommend doing this to your rifle too. It even feels much better in my hands. It's smooth now and is not so "grippy" because there is less friction when holding it because the rough grime is gone. It is not slippery though. It just has an "unabused" feel to it.

I carried the M-1 Garand as a USMC member until the M-14 came out and found the rifle to be an excellent weapon with excellent accuracy as I found the M-14 to also be. Never got the thumb injury, but saw several in my time. Never had to deal with the M-16 Mattel toy when it came out, after they corrected the stupid issues caused by McNamara, it turned into a decent jungle warfare weapon. I still have an M-1 Garand, but mine is chambered in .308 NATO and is a refined match Grade. I could hold a 10 round group to 2.5 inches at 500 yards on iron sights . I am too old to be on the range now a days, but still own the rifle and would also have purchased the M-14 if it were not out of my price range.

I live about 30 minutes away from their northern store in Camp Perry - starting the process to get my paperwork together now so in a month or two I can visit and pick one out. I don't have a CCW/hunter license so they have a form on their website I'm hoping my local range officer would fill out for me next time I visit the range to check off the marksmanship experience portion of the requirement. Beautiful M1!

I traded into my M1 rifle about three weeks ago. It was a bucket list weapon. Now it's become an addiction. I plan to order one soon after I join GCA. I need to find out if my firearms instructor certificate and being a RSO will cover the marksmanship requirements.

Welcome to the club. I have rebuilt 2 from the trigger up and have found them accurate to 800 yards.

There's no FFL transfer for CMP rifles! Just ships right to your door!

I get to pick up mine from my local base rod and gun club in five days I use them as an FFL in California-the added bonus is no sales tax. Ordered the expert grade as I intend to shoot it a bunch. History not that important. It appears to have been made in December 1941, and as an ‘expert grade’ it came with a new barrel and a new walnut stock. From ordering to arrival at my FFI was just a few weeks. (First quarter, 2024).

Watched this after your Garand Thumb video (I own a CMP one as well, but it's from Vietnam - not an WW2 Springfield like yours). And the morons commenting that yours WASN'T FROM WW2 because it stayed locked open is hilarious. In this video you can LITERALLY see the serial number, manufacturer, and etc. and if you do some simple 'googlin' you will find this is 100% a WW2 rifle. Not a vietnam era. Not a repro. And it stays locked back. Shout outs for both videos.

That's actually about average for a rack grade, although my stock isn't quite as mismatched as yours. My service grade is in much better condition than my rack and as such I shoot my rack more. The only issue I've ever had was when I got the shipping email for my rack grade the address was incorrect. Because I noticed it when the email hit I was able to contact their customer service and get the rifle returned, the address corrected, and get it reshipped without much issue. I love both of them but I'm going to do everything I can to keep my service grade looking good. The process would also go down if the government would lift the import ban
