My CNC built this Berkshire Chair, well, mostly. They look amazing.

I know it's been a while since I uploaded a video. Truth be told I was swamped at work and to be honest, sometimes you need a break. Well, work is a bit more predictable and I am ready to start paying more attention to my channel. Thank you for you patience. I finally got my CNC to work (What a nightmare as I explained in this video) This build is for a friend who asked if I could duplicate his favorite chair made by his Uncle Benny. It's call a Berkshire Chair, very similar to an Adirondack with distinct differences. I took forever to build as I had to design every part by scratch, but now that I have the files, next chair should be a snap. Enjoy the video. Thanks guys.

Very nice. I love the different species combination. Plus I like how solidly they are built. Great video!

I don’t think using CNCs is cheating…it’s just another tool 😊 Learning to program is the main reason I haven’t considered a CNC, so there’s a skill set you’re learning that woodworkers without a CNC don’t possess! One thing you might reconsider is cutting the slats and other “plain” pieces on the CNC. Yes, it’s quick to do them on the tablesaw, but you could be working on something else while the CNC is cutting them…just a thought 🤷‍♀️ Nice chair! It turned out great, and I like the idea that you’re duplicating one that your friend’s family had built 😊

@@TheWoodworkingHack sick video, came from the alibaba one. I do more metal than woodworking and looking to get something for large format high pressure molds. As such Ive had a fat minute with cnc/machine tools/modeling get fusion 360 to model up stuff and you will be flying. They also have a nice gcode generator that will allow you to have less broken bits, less headache, and more time. fusion is free for education and personal use :) you can very well do a lot more. Tons of models are on grabcad/yeggi for tools to make with your cnc (JIGS ARE AMAZINGGGGG) to help you with non-cnc work. Furthermore with my experience I could whip up the chair arm and have gcode ready in 15 minutes. That isnt a brag, thats just a "yo it gets better". With fusion you can insert a background photo so you really can take one reference measurement and a picture. First insert the pic into f360 and then resize it to match your reference measurment then simply trace the chair out freehand! WOOO you got it much more accurate than traditionally measured because a 3d point space only is distorted from camera perspective not being orthographic. Click finish sketch. Click extrude, extrude that sketch 2in. Press R for radius. Add a radius/chamfer of your choice. You can even do a cabinet like stile about an inch from the edge by copying the board, clicking to shell it, then scale down or shell again/delete some faces, then use the combine tool to cut the original sketch. with the stile you can cut a groove then leave it unfilled or fill it with homemade wood filler (so can use purple heart sawdust and or some dye) or use some dye and resin. Also with 3d profiling you can have a translucent resin! Think of a map of texas that is 3d cut then filled with translucent resin and planed, making it have different tones based upon the state topography :). There really is a lot you can do. Also you can import part .step files (like bolts/whatnot) from mcmaster carr easily btw. A full setup in cad and having holes drilled to precision makes it more ikea like with less wood marks and tear out. Having wood parts that go together with dowel pins or metal rod/glue to show no bolts but have all the strength is totally doable! Still a job though Go to manufacture tab, select basic machine parameters and a tool, ill say a 1/4" endmill. Create a toolpath. Its exceedinly easy to figure out, im thankful for that. You can even use a flat endmill to make the radius by having it do a 3d profile where it will go around the board like 20 times with a tiny step up each time! bam, take off a board with a custom engraved board that is cut to precision, radiused all nicely, engraved, and with a lovely cutaway stile profile!

So cool. It makes me think I will try this but until I get the right equipment I will continue to enjoy learning from your videos. Thanks.

Nice chair! And Video too. You could have done a lot of your joinery work on the CNC when you cut your parts out. Things like mortices or your dowel holes rather than drilling holes or measuring and clamping parts to drill them in place. It would save some time and increase your accuracy.

Agree...this was my 1st crack at it so I went slow. I do plan to incorporate the dowel holes and other into builds going forward as I get more comfortable w the software. Thanks friend.
