I had my colours done last autumn and I am a Spring; light, clear and bright! I had always thought I probably was. During lockdown however when I had purchased fabrics online I had chosen lots of murky colours. I decided to remove them from my sewing room shelves yesterday and I feel so much better. I actually want to start sewing again.
Ah a beautiful clear spring!! 🌷 🥰 We should do a fabric swap 😂. Isn’t it amazing how they can look so different on different people! That’s great that it’s kick started your sewing again!
Me too, bright, light. Sooo hard to find clothes and fabric after September. Christmas colours tend to be deeper jewel colours or dark (and dingy) and so much black. looks odd to wear my spring colours.also had my ‘style’ done this year - not as impressed. Needed help as now retired and so older - need to consider what I am now wearing.
I did my colours together with a friend (also with a House of Colour lady), and it was super interesting to do it together because the colours that looked amazing on her looked terrible on me, and vice-versa 🤣She's a Summer and I'm an Autumn. It was an amazing illustration of how it really sn't about the colours themselves, but about the way they make us look. I recommend it to everyone!
🫣 I don’t need anything to make fabric buying easier! 😂😂😂. Thank you, I’m looking forward to making and wearing the rosewood colour. Are you autumn? I know you said, but I can’t remember. I can picture you as an autumn. x
Like so many other people, I had my colors done 30+ years ago. Since I have red hair and brown eyes, I'm pretty much an autumn. Like you, those are the colors I'm drawn to. I think a warm/muted shade of purple would look great on you.
This was so helpful. I had my colours done 30 years ago and was also told I am a warm spring. But like you, I tend to go for autumn colours. Maybe it's time for me to get my colours done again!
Ah yes, sounds like you are similar to me! I really enjoyed having mine done again, it was nice to have my suspicions confirmed 😂. However I was wearing what I wanted anyway so I guess it hasn’t changed that!
Just watched your colour analysis. Your colours are so me. Lovely to see the brighter colours I too can incorporate in my wardrobe. I’m drawn to same browns and beige and my sister even asked why I always wear dirty colours lol
😂 that’s made me laugh!! Yes but I like dirty colours 😂😂. I also like the brighter ones too, but only the toned down brights for me thank you!! Pleased to have helped you with colour too. It’s definitely made a difference to me anyway. Thank you!! ☺️
You defo are keen about what suits you, and the lady seemed very nice. I was typed as a winter and those are the colors I tend to wear, but i love the light summer pallet the best. The pink looked really cute. The. Autumn looks great.
I haven’t had mine done but like you I knew what I don’t like on me. When you meet someone and they look really good it is because what they wear suits them and makes them sparkle. So when you know what is making you sparkle why would you wear dull and drab?? I love what you have got in your stash ready to make and look forward to seeing you sparkle every vlog 🥰 No dull grey anymore xx
So enjoyed seeing you get your colours done. This will be so useful for you although you always choose lovely colours that suit you but some elements of brights will be a great contrast for your me made wardrobe
Love watching this - you are definitely an autumn! I’ve been a bit obsessed with having my colours done in the past. House of colour typed me a bright spring which never felt right. More recently I’ve been an autumn and that feels more me. Those colours are just lovely
Thank you so much! So your colour story is very similar to mine then! Definitely wear whatever feels better for you, that’s absolutely what I did anyway!! 😂
So fascinating seeing you go through the process Sarah, I adore the kingfisher blue on you! It's funny how you knew all along that you were an Autumn. I've never had mine done but I always feel most comfortable in Autumnal colours too x
Thank you!! Yes I can definitely see you as an autumn. It was just a really fun thing to do and obviously I was happy to have my suspicions confirmed 😂
Hi Sarah! I had my colours done with House of Colour 30 years ago (!) and I have exactly the same season as you! Now I am 62 and the colours still work for me. I wear a lot of teal as I can guarantee it will suit me. Doesn’t it make fabric buying easier? 😊 Thanks for all your videos! I do enjoy your makes. Karen
Ah thank you!! I think I’ve always chosen clothes and fabrics in autumnal tones, so I wouldn’t say it’s helped especially but just confirmed that I was wearing the right colours! 🥰
I love how you said what you thought! I'm afraid to go because I am so biased and so sure I am an autumn. It's great to see someone have an opinion while going through their analysis.
Ah thank you!! I honestly think that you probably don’t need it done if you know pretty much that you’re an autumn and feel best in those colours then go for it!! I enjoyed the experience but was relieved that I had been right all along I think I would have felt pretty mixed had she suggested I was another colour season!! 🫣😂
Loved this, so informative. I am similar colouring and like you am very aware of what I think I like and what suits me ie. warm Autumn, but I think this is so useful for the surprises that you may not have tried. I think it elevates your sewing when you know you are putting such a lot of effort into the colour that is right for you. So many times I have done a beautiful garment with a gorgeous fabric and then realised that colour not quite right for me. Ps. Love your gathering hack with dental floss, have done it every since ... life changing and I actually don't dread gather quite so much so thankyou 😂😊❤
Yes I agree it makes all the difference to wear a colour you feel right in and it;s such a shame to make a garment which doesn't get much wear because the colour is off. Thank you! I love the fact you're using the dental floss, its a game changer for the dreaded gathering isn't it?!!
You already knew most of the colours that suited. I think most people tend to go towards their colour anyway. I love blues and the cooler tones of winter on me so I am alm9st sure I know my palette like you did Sarah.
Ah yes I think to be honest most of us know what we like and what suits us. I have just enjoyed discovering a few more colours which I will be including in my wardrobe, perhaps even red which I had never considered before!! I totally agree with you that we know what we like and wear it anyway, I certainly did!! 🥰😂
I enjoyed this vlog Sarah, so interesting to see the different colours on you. You were clearly a warm colour person but it was then fascinating to see the different warm colours on you. Definitely an autumn! I had my colours done a hundred years ago and I was definitely a winter but I didn’t like the winter colours at all so I spent years wearing only black, grey and dark navy!
Ah thank you so much!! Yes I agree that we’re happier wearing the colours which we like and are drawn to, regardless of which season we’re defined as!! It’s definitely a fun process trying the different shades and tones and seeing the difference they can make though!
This was so nice to see, I am of the same colouring as you but with darker hair. Love all the colours you picked! Hope you feel more confortable now using more colour.
That was so interesting Sarah. I had my colours done a couple of decades ago and hated that I was told I was a cool winter, I’m definitely drawn to warm autumn colours so that’s what I mainly wear.
Ah thank you! That’s really interesting and I think shows that none of it is set in stone, it’s a guideline really and we can wear what we want and feel good in! However I still wouldn’t wear pastels or pale brights 🫣😂
😂 yes there was no way I was leaving that place until she confirmed I was an autumn 😂😂. You definitely look amazing in the winter colours, can’t imagine you in my muddy muted tones 😂
Had my colours done with House of Colour many years ago, I was an autumn which I think I’d guessed, once you start using mostly the colours in your swatch everything in your wardrobe goes. People started telling me how well I looked as I was wearing colours that lifted my skin colour. It also makes shopping for fabric and clothes so easy. Enjoy your new bright colours, look forward to seeing these incorporated into your making x
@angelasandrou4830 Yes I had my colours done with the same company in the 90's. I had to go to Kensington in London. I have never strayed from being a Warm Winter.
@@sewsarahstyle In the early days I would go "off piste" and someone would always comment on me looking tired or asking me if I was not feeling well. So it clearly affected how my face looked. Now, I stick only to my colours and it makes buying fabric/clothes much easier, as you don't get distracted by colours you know you can't wear. But it looks like you instinctively knew what colours look best for you Sarah ;-) I think you will enjoy buying fabric even more now.
You knew didnt you? But it must be nice to find some colours that maybe you wouldnt have thought suited you. I had mine done around 20 years ago., but I'm going through the process of growing out my hair colour and embracing the grey ( 3 months in) but I'm thinking ill get mine done again once its nearly there. Its very interesting.
Yes Im pretty sure I knew and definitely wanted to be an Autumn so it was good to get it confirmed! 😂. Not much in my fabric stash will change apart from some nice brighter colours being introduced. Ah yes that’s a good idea to get yours re done once your hair has grown out because even though it’s about skin tone, I think the overall look with the hair colour helps us choose the best colours for us if that makes sense!!
I watched this vlog with interest thank you for sharing. To be honest I couldn’t see how any of the colours affected your skin in anyway and i paused and really looked. I didn’t see any that looked especially great against your skin or especially bad against your skin although you naturally beamed when you liked a colour. I think we know what colours we like and don’t like and will be dawn to those or not and will look great in them in any case regardless of the season/pallet ❤
Ah I do take your point thank you, I think it’s definitely tricky to see any changes on screen, but in real life I did definitely feel that some of the colours washed me out (pale yellow) and others made my face feel better and reflected my eyes (ie moss green). I agree I was definitely happier when draped in colours which I felt comfortable in and I completely agree that we are happiest wearing colours we are drawn to which is exactly what I wore even after being classed as a spring all those years ago! As with anything in life I say do/wear what makes you feel good regardless of whether it is supposed to suit you or not!! 😊 😂 🥰
Hi thank you, it’s the Dila blouse and dress by notches patterns. I have a vlog about it as I was a tester for them a couple of months ago. It’s such a gorgeous pattern and I have worn it lots!
Ah thank you!! Yes it’s lovely isn’t it? I plan to make a Fibremood Kaya, after making the toile on my dress form. I think it should work well hopefully 🤞🏼
Ah that’s exciting! Sophie is based near Lichfield. All her details are on the house of colour website 🥰 Let me know if you book in and I can perhaps drop in and have a nose (if you don’t mind obviously!😂).
