In the spirit of the book "Cadian Blood" I think that's a really viable way to play Cadians. A mechanized detachment.

I personally like the idea that your russ might have taken a hit that damaged the turret so at the depot they lift it off and slap whatever russ turret they have lying around on it. Green exterminator turret.salvafed from a vehicle that was hit badly through the hull. No time to give it a lick of tan paint, send it to the front boys!

Can’t wait to see the results of the tourney! I really like how you don’t just spew meme armies, you do off the wall stuff, yes, but you actually put thought into it.

Not gonna lie, this list is making my little soldier stand to attention...

I think adding a full squad of Scout Sentinels and swapping a Chimera's infantry with a Command squad to order them from the front would be a fun change. Lets you get that Reinforcements! value. You lose a tank but you get three Sentinel weapons with take aim and Scout Sentinel +hit buff. Seems worth it if you're running two artillery pieces and no orders for all your Chimera.

Aside from a few minor tweaks, this is essentially the list I ran for my 1st season ever. I went 5 wins and 1 loss, only losing to Knights

Cant wait to see the after action report. I believe you made the right decision with dropping solar in this instance, an extra armored fist squad and keeping dedicated artillery seems better than the alternative mortar squad and Solar. Hoping you go 3-0 again.

Chimera has legs for sure. I used ogrin fake taxi recently, and even without orders I really felt like I got my points worth.

I've been thinking about a CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT mechanized list, and honestly I'm having trouble justifying the Lord Solar. It felt so weird I was gonna ask about it in the discord, but I suppose I have my answer here.

Funnily enough this is very close to what I'm planning for my first list this puts alot more into consideration for me

It’s similar to a list I was looking at running which had 5 in, a scout sentinel (for the reroll ones), an engine seer (to follow the dorn and do actions around the mid field) and a commissar (to literally pop in from the side turn 3 for engage/investigate or one of those ones)… but other than that… and the load outs on the troops (1 catachan, 4 infantry with auto cannons/lascannons) it’s the same list…. Something something great minds….

It will be interesting to see if the sticky objective special rule actually helped. Personally, I would have thought the infantry squad would be better. Heavy weapons are better than an extra special weapon. Sgt is better, but more importantly, infantry squad gets cover on an objective.

Ive run into many of these conundrums, going to try leon and a cav squad body guard instead of the command squad thing. He can order both the chimera and the squad inside it once the chimera goes down and his bonus still applies to the firing deck so its almost a 2 for 1 across multiple units in 2 ways.

I played my first guard 10th edition game last week with a mechanised armoured list, concentrating more on firepower than OC as you mention. However, I might suggest that you could consider swapping one of those infantry squads into catachans and running a disco inferno. Two reasons, first is to give you a credible overwatch threat for the enemies advanced units and secondly because with so many tanks you might find it difficult to hide them all effectively at deployment, so having a 6" scout move can allow you to put the infernobus in what might seem like an exposed position, but then be repositioned. My list also took no lord solar. I had even debated taking only him and just hoping my opponent didnt choose to target the guy at the back, but that doesnt seem viable, especially for a tournament setting. I dont think you will miss him though, because the manticores a somewhat self sufficient with their in built re-rolls on bigger units. For the same reason my list included two leman russes, as their own in built re-rolls allows them to act somewhat independently too. You may be surprised to learn that I managed to make my list work with just a single tank commander - and found that he was typically either ordering the manticores for additional punch, or ordering the two vanquishers (yes, two vanquishers because im a mad lad). Sticking with me being mad... have you considered hydras in the list? Everyone and their dog seems to have the fly keyword nowadays and they are again another unit that can be pretty self sufficient (particularly against fly thanks to in built re-rolls to hit AND wound). Im convinced these are low key OP in a meta that seems to have so many fly units. I ran two of them too (mad lad, yes), but you'd have to lose two armoured fist units to do that and that might be too much of a departure from the feel you are going for.

I've been toying with mech guard as I build my collection and have had the same conundrum with Lord Solar. In a mixed army (which I currently run) it's not too difficult to justify the 200+ points you need to field him well. When you start trying to run mech infantry, that 240 or so points is almost two Chimeras with Catachans. That's a hard sell...especially with the lower numbers of battleline innate to the theme. Honestly, commanders in Chimeras should be able to order Chimeras.

This is basically the list iv been thinking, interested to see about cadians i go for krieg. Its all about the oc game and the infantry, and the rest is there to support. I go for 2 basilisks instead to compliment my speed. I think you should change the russ commander to an exterminator, and give GS to remaining commander. Standard russ and manticores are hitting on 4s rerolls so dont need orders, so 2 is enough. You should repaint it tho haha. Good luck

I think the Rogal Dorn is 'okay', I think it is far from the best tank. The main issue are its size, its large volume of strength 9 shots (which actually struggle with a large number of targets) and the fact its defensive ability has to be used before you see saves or anything (also not great vs melta as that bonus goes on after reducing to 0). The main gun only being strength 12 also means it can struggle a little against really heavy stuff. As far as Leontus goes, the biggest thing to consider is that AP each round means that the armor strat becomes more feasible alongside the smoke, and also liberal tank shock use. I would personally swap the dorn for another demolisher and swap one of the manticores to a basilisk and use the points savings for Gaunt's Ghosts or more Scions.

Ive made 2 modifications to this list: ive dropped the scions and one cadian shock troop, and went for a Chimera with heavy flamers and catachans (savin me 5 pts aaand giving me some nice anti infantry overwatch) AND i took a scout sentinel as cherry ontop ill bring in in turn 2/3 to do secondaries and potentially scout a high value target for the manticores/tanks.

My 506th Kodiaks are a mechanized army. I am working on getting Chimeras for all my squads. After I finish up a Crusade, my motor pool will grow....that won't be the only thing

Your thinking is sound, but the proof of any plan is how it fairs on contact with the enemy. What I like about this list is that it is flexible and has resilience. The Lord Solar is mighty, but will be a target like the Dorn and two tank commanders means the loss of one still gives you some orders. I am looking forward to seeing how this fairs in practice as I loved how your total infantry list worked. My only concern with this over your infantry list is that terrain will impact vehicles more so on dense terrain boards and will mean you will need to advance on turn one to open up the board and not present a mass of casualties if a vehicle gets hit and explodes.

I would happily sacrifice the manticores for scout sentinels with autocannons or heavy plasma.

Didn’t know you could fit so much I run 3 russes, tank commander, 2 basilisks, 4 infantry squads, scions, kasrkin, lord solar 2 chimeras and a taurox in mine

The lord solar is a trap unit. I really don't miss him I play foot guard and they don't need his orders as they have Cadian officers, Krieg Officers and Platon command squads and Creed who gives me the only stratagem I need for free. It's a points intensive unit that doesn't do anything that other units can't do

Just food for thought. Doomhammer, 2 full lascannon heavy weapon squads inside. For 1 order from lord solar you get 10 lascannin shots, 5 twin heavy bolters and a cannon that does d6 + 6 dmg vs vehicles and monsters at 24" range

hmm the changes i would do would make it less mechanized i guess. first id try to get gaunts ghosts in; they are just soo damn good for the objective game atm. my russ backline would be a mix of vanquishers (quite durable per points and imo underrated as their weapon is heavy which many seem to forget) and extermis as they compliment the chimeras perfectly (all those heavy bolters really like more -ap). speaking of heavy bolters 3 of the 6 chimeras id fill with ogryns for those sweet short range +12 heavy bolter shots each. and i personally like to start each guard list independent of theme with straken + bodyguard + 40catachans for a bargain of 315 points. with ogryn chims and melee catachan i think you are relying a lot less on indirect fire now as you want to press forward anyways.

I wonder if running tourox’s instead of chimeras would work. They are less tough and less dakka but a lot faster and I think the special rule would make this interesting. Might not be worth the decrease in defence and damage though.

When you're like: to fit Lord Solar into my list I'll need to swap my good hard hitting artillery out for 3x mortar squads. And then you think: for those mortars to be useful they are going to use his 3 orders a turn, which means he's not ordering the tanks.

I want to see a cavalry heavy army. I have 50 rough riders I’m constructing, planing mainly death riders then rough riders to make up the other 20.

That's a very scary looking army. My Eldar is tiny compared to that

ursula creed is a must fields of fire is to good, i use in my mech guard ghaunts ghosts, tempestus command squad, platoon command with mortar, creed4x 10 scions plasma hot shot, 5x scions 4x turox primes, 2x chimera 2x kaserkin 2x3 armourd sentinals, 2x1 scout sentinals. has done really good for me in the toris i have played also of fun fast and puts a ton of pressure

I can tell you , i play 2 el classico battle tank with plasma sponsons , The special rules for the basic tank is amazing , full reroll let the tank to be fucking independant and roll in They fucking perform so well that i consider get them multi melta rather than plasma

How did the list perform? My concern would be all the damage dealers are hitting on 4+’s. It’s too swingy IMO. There could be a turn where the tanks really need to kill a target and all the guns just miss.

Have you been enjoying the manticores in 10? I thought they looked like they had a bit more lethal but less utility than the basilisk.

Thoughts of Catachan Squads in Chimeras?

The strat really isn't that different from an infantry horde list. The enemy will have a balance of shooting profiles. They don't have enough dedicated firepower to kill us all efficiently.

What about a Artillery guard army?

This is extremely close to what I run myself.

i built this list with 1 demo commander with grand strat, 6 chimera squads, TWO DORNS, two basilisks, and 1 exterminator. still 12 vehicles and 60 guys but you get 2 dorns.

I'm a bit out of the loop for this editions meta, but how much would I be kneecapping myself running aircraft (Vulture/Avenger/etc.) instead of as many tanks or artillery pieces as fire support for a mechanized infantry list such as this?

really and truly. the lord solar doesn't really look like a unit that does well in more specialized forces of guard. he should be included in less specialized armies where you have that mix of just about everything. only thing i question is why there isn't a officer for the little plastic men with their flash lights. move move move and duty and honor seems like it could really help them to get to and hold that middle objective.

in answer to your question, definitely think you've made the right choice for lord solar.. he doesn't fit the list, the point in the list is mechanised durability.

This is just like, my opinion man: This list is mechanized; this list thematic; this list is cool; this list is not competitive 10th ed. Bar Lord Solar who you basically said you didnt take because stats... Ursula Creed, scout sentinels, Gaunts Ghosts?? This list seems like a bunch of statblocks whose points fit together well, but where are the actual ability synergies. For ex imagine this list facing a mirror match of Mech Guard but minus the Rogal Dorn and Add Scout sentinels and Guants Ghosts. It just looses to the value generated by extra AP and reroll 1's to hit. Ive watched time and time again Rogal Dorns doing jack. Curious to see how it works out, we need the data.

Doesn't firing deck 2 fire two lascannons from a heavy weapon squad or two heavy bolters? the firing deck two specifies two weapon profiles of embarked, not two carry capacity worth. It's why ogryns can fire out despite using three capacity. On that note, couldn't a Field ordinance battery or two also fire from inside a chimera? They have the infantry tag and the chimera transport rule just says AM Infantry, it doesn't exclude anything. Unlike the laser destroy which has the "Vehicle" tag. M assumption is that they would take up 3-4 space inside the chimera

Why not armored sentinels? Good survivability, less damage than a tank, but can be reinforced

If a plasma gunner fails a hazardous roll shooting from inside the chimera, who takes the damage?

If ever a game needed to ether downsize for cost or down scale it's the latest iteration of 40K. Man is it a disappointmenting set of rules designed to fill WHs pockets. This game is essentially just expensive death chess.
