Beautiful Aloes you have! This vid makes me want to get back on collecting them. I agree with completely discarding them instead of investing in expensive chemicals for treatment. I lost my entire Aloe hybrid collection due to orchid leaf mites. This mites are hard to treat since they were originally from orchids and not a lot of documentation and proper treatment are available. I’ll try to buy some Aloes next month. Fortunately, there are many stunning hybrids available here in the Philippines.

I would love to get a hold of a TCT hybrid. They are so beautiful! Haven’t seen them for sale here in the US. Orchid mites on aloes?! Yikes. Haven’t heard of that till you mentioned it.

Thanks a lot for such a nice video, Anna! I have Gonialoe Variegatas sonce I have learned that Gonialoe variegata (wrongly aka Aloe variegata ) are no longer Aloes and, farthermore, that while all aloes are toxic to cats and dogs if digested, gonialoes are safe and problem free 😅😊

Wonderful information. I did not know about their toxicity to pets. Good to know. Thank you. 😊

A lot of aloe vera sold in the shops are actually aloe vera var. chinensis. It's a hybrid that produces an extreme amount of offsets, is smaller, and has orange flowers as opposed to the large growing, yellow flowers aloe vera. In 1 year, I took 80 pups off one chinensis. They are unkillable monsters 🤣😭

I absolutely love your collection!!!! In fact, when I started following you, I fell in love with Aloes and now have quite a few myself. The big issue for me is that I am in Canada’s West Coat where it rains a lot so I bring them all inside for most of the year and they have to live under growlights. Thank you so much for showing us you collection, it is beautiful. ❤️

❤ excellent, helpful video. Thank you much for this. Do your Aloes get pollinated naturally or do you pollinate with a brush?
@CactusCaffeine

Both! The ones that I like to cross, I do manually. But hummingbirds visit my yard and they pollinate most of them.

Wonderful video, Ana, and what a beautiful collection of Aloes you are growing! I love these plants too, especially the many miniature species and hybrids! I grow around 30 Aloes and I think my favorite is the delicate Aloe haworthoides. Of the large Aloes, Aloe dichotoma with it's golden-colored epidermis is my all time favorite. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome collection with us, Ana, simply beautiful!! 😊👍🙌🪴🌸💚😎☀️

I also love aloe plants. I have a couple of the swordfish variety, one of which is in a larger container with a collection of various succulents. It has still grown to be over 8” tall and still growing as is the other. I guess they are happy where they are. I did repot one of them last year. The repot did not phase it at all. It continues to grow. I really want a couple of Oiks and some Christmas sleighs. I have to order many of my succulents online because the stores in our area have limited availability. Unfortunately, some of the varieties that I want are not available online either. I hope that when spring gets here I will be able to find what I want. It gets so frustrating. I also grow orchids and African Violets along with some other tropical plants so I have plenty to keep me busy. I just wish that I could buy locally. I have an Aloe Nobilis (as far as I can tell) and the swordfish aloe. I was surprised after the first two years that I had my aloes and Haworthias that they began growing bloom spikes. 😂 I had no idea that they even did that! They put out long stems with very pretty little orangish flowers. I see that one of my Haworthias is already starting to grow one. Since I grow all of my plants inside I have no idea about dormancy. Do they even go dormant when they live inside? I do slow down on my watering with some of my succulents during the winter but I’m wondering about the aloes, especially my one and only Aloe Vera. I have been growing it for a few years. My other Aloe Vera died but it had put out a baby before it died. This is that baby and I do actually baby that thing. I don’t want to over water it or under water it. My other plants I have pretty much figured out but the Aloe Vera I’m not so sure about. How do you know when to water them?
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine 6 месяцев назад
I feel the leaves. When they feel firm and full of water, I skip watering. I let the leaves get a little thinner or curled o on the side before I give then a heavy watering. Hope this helps. ☺️

I have 3 Aloe Vera. Two of them have thick leaves. I was able to get some pups from one of them and put them in a pot. It's winter here, so I don't know when I'll really start seeing growth. My third aloe I bought from the lady who owns the gym I attend. It has skinny leaves and kind of looks like the Little Gem one.

Love this video of your Aloe collection, Ana! You are so organized! I have a total of 52 Aloes here in Phoenix. 25 are in the ground and 27 are in pots. I have big ones and hybrid small ones. I have actually lost a number of the hybrid small ones due to the high heat in summer nights. Mine are all where they are shaded in the afternoon. I have always loved Aloes since I worked at a garden center in Rhode Island 50 years ago. So great that now we have access to so many varieties and hybrids!
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine 8 месяцев назад
Oh wow! That is awesome that you can grow aloes in the ground. I didn’t think any aloe can survive outdoors under the Phoenix sun and heat.
@nmumpton
@nmumpton 8 месяцев назад
The ones in the ground are big Aloes that are very shaded under a large tree. Most of these are native to South Africa and are adapted to the heat. They definitely would not make it in the full sun here! 🤩@@CactusCaffeine
