I have had several questions about my Hobie Outback and the way I have my kayak setup. I was going to break this up but decided to role with the length even though it is 30 mins long. As I mentioned at the beginning of the video I few things with this setup will be changing very soon. I will be making a video of those changes when I make them. As of now, this is everything I use on my Outback. If you have any questions about my setup and what I talked about in the video leave me a comment below or email me using the email address below.

Those drain holes are called scupper holes and if you pull the cloth tab under the seat in a forward position, the seat will raise and lower while you are sitting in it. Cool video!
@SOFishing

Haha, yeah I know I just need to cut. And the seat I did not know that so thanks and thanks for watching.

Great idea to mould the pvc into the rod holders 👍

Thanks for watching!! Yep, I have not made a video on how to do that but I have made several pvc mold in rod holders.

You will love having the transducer under/inside the hull. Much easier to deal with throughout the day as well as coming to and from the shore. When you put the transducer inside you may want to consider putting the battery inside too as that will also free up space. Looking forward to more excellent videos and adventures.

Mr. C Thanks for watching my friend!! Yeah I want to get one of those battery packs like Steve bought at some point. I have the Berley Pro and that will be going on sometime this week.

You're going to love the BerleyPro setup. I use the transducer cover for the Humminbird Helix 5SI and it works great and its super clean. Saw you mentioned the square hatch... Best upgrade so far on my Outback. TOTALLY worth it.
@SOFishing

Thanks for the comment and watching!! I plan on doing the BerleyPro install tomorrow and the hatch a little later, but that will be done for sure!!

Nice rundown of your setups. Need to run stuff different for my type of fishing, but there's some neat ideas picked up that I'll borrow. :) Your PVC-solution for the anchor is great. I'd have to fit mine on the side tho (but I don't run the H-case like you do so got plenty of space there) as I want to be able to bring the heavy duty cart out in the scupper holes. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for watching bud!! Yeah, the Hobie's are very proud of their yak's for sure. There are a lot to choose from just do your research and get one that best fits your budget, your fishing area, and your style of fishing.

I like the Hobie Outbacks and always wanted one but the guys I buy kayaks from don't carry them, so I think my next kayak will be a Native Manta Ray Propel 12.
@SOFishing
@SOFishing 7 лет назад
Yeah that is a good yak as well. I just like the Hobie because when you are in shallow water you just have to raise the propellers up by hand. Other than that it's a great yak. Thanks for watching bud!!

The seat height adjustment is done by pulling the grey web strap at your front left of seat not by the way you showed by removing seat then pulling back and turning spring loaded gear. If that was the only way for adjustment it couldn’t be changed while out in the water!
@SOFishing
@SOFishing 3 года назад
Yep, I leave my seat in the highest position 100% of the time.

Thank you for this video man I'm getting a fishing kayak for my birthday what kayak would you recommend
@SOFishing
@SOFishing 7 лет назад
Thanks for watching!! Well it all depends on your budget, where you will be fishing and really what you will be fishing for. Just do your research if it were me I would 100% tell you to get a NON-Paddle yak like mine. It just lets you fish so much more. Rather that trying to paddle around when you could be fishing. But thats just my opinion. Good LucK and Happy early Birthday!!
@genelamb4427
@genelamb4427 7 лет назад
The bungee with the hook that you hooked your seat is actually to hook on to the Mirage Drive to hold the fins in the up position for paddling in shallow water. I also use to hold the seat back down.

Thanks, I need to do an updated video on what I have changed since I made this video. I want a PA 14 so I feel more stable standing for sight casting and flipping jigs and etc. I love the skeg on the PA to for windy conditions. But you are right the Outback is lighter. Thanks for watching!!

How did you mount those two Scotty bases on the side .? Did you access inside the hull to use nut bolt or just screw directly into kayak from the outside of the yak?
@SOFishing
@SOFishing 6 лет назад
I did access that through the inside. actually from the round hatch in front of your seat. Here is the video link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5tvDtVSUIFE.html

cool video. I don't think you have enough rod for all your rods..lol joking.. but I do love the set up you have man.. how is the balance for standing up?
@SOFishing
@SOFishing 7 лет назад
Thanks bud!! lol Well at first it may seem very shaky, but once you get used to it it is not bad at all, especially in ponds or coves out of the wind on lakes.

If you pull on that cloth loop on the front of that seat you can maneuver that seat up and down with out taking it off to position it.

@SOFishing

Thanks for watching! I would say get at least a 12 ft yak and not a canoe style. Get a sit on top type and the wider the better for stability.

I’ve got the Hobie medium size insulated white fish keep bag that clips to the bow of my kayak. A bag of crushed ice stays frozen & has a drain on its end.

If you see this don't do the pole through the scupper the scupper is the weakest point on the kayak

Just curious how tall you are and how much you weigh? I'm 6'4' 240 pound and wanted to know if this kayak would work for me.
@SOFishing
@SOFishing 6 лет назад
I am 6' and 215 lbs. and most defiantly yes the Outback will work for you. I work in a kayak shop and I have a customer that is your size that owns 2 Outbacks. The question is do you want to stand up when you fish? If so you may want to think about stepping up to a PA12 or 14. I am going to actually get a PA14 this fall because I want to be able to stand up and not feel like I am going to fall out. The PA14 is very stable and you will fall out before you flip this kayak unless you are in the surf. You can pretty much walk from one end of it to the other as well. If you have any more question please feel free to ask. Thanks

Hi, I’m 6’4” 275 pounds and just bought a 2018 Outback and it supports me and my fishing gear set up without a problem even in choppy waves. I also have a Revo13 which is perfect for the ocean fishing.
