In my personal experience sophomore year was the hardest year and was substantially more difficult than freshman year although it's worth noting that I didn't have to take chemistry + physics + calc all at once which probably made my freshman year easier than most. Sophomore year courses bring a lot of new and unfamiliar content and learning it all at once while adjusting to the course load definitely makes it more difficult at first but you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Good luck!
@@timhu69 thank you! i feel i’ll have the same problem bcuz i had calc and physics credit transferred too, so i didn’t have to take as much of that stuff freshman year
I am in a very difficult situation, I'm a none traditional student (30 year old veteran) I finishe dmy associates in 2021 which contained basically all of my math and science reqs (calc 4, chem, physics 3 so on) but I just started working on a program going to seton hill for computer science which i will finish at the end of 2026 at which point i will transfer to pitt for electrical engineering or computer engineering ( havent decided) how tough do you think it will be being that I'm super far seperated from my physics and calc stuff.
I think you should be fine, in my experience most of the math required (linear algebra, discrete math) you learn and take as part of the curriculum. A lot of the CoE classes don’t use that much strict math-and if they do, they’ll probably briefly go over it again or you can ask a TA/professor. I don’t remember using much of physics/calc at all throughout the course of the degree. I did graduate a few years ago now so take that into account, but good luck!
Howzz the career opportunities for students at Pitt for computer science graduate during final year ? Are there Co-op programs or internship for students. I am looking for my Son who is junior year now .
Yes, there are lots of resources for career opportunities especially for computer engineering and computer science students. There are job fairs, internship fairs, co-op fairs, as well as a whole team at the career center dedicated to helping students.
Hyyyyy. I’m wishing to apply to pitts as an international student can you please tell me if computer engineering at Pitts would be worth it and are there any good job offers after uni???
There are lots of opportunities available on campus with career fairs and internship fairs and co-op fairs that happen throughout the semester. I had success at these events as a US student but I can't speak to how different your experience would be as an international student (in terms of visas, sponsorships/green card, etc--I'm not educated about this stuff) and if this affects the companies giving you a chance or favoring US students. As for 'good' job offers I assume you mean FAANG level--I don't think going to Pitt specifically will give you an advantage over other students but rather if you excel then you will stand out from the crowd. The Computer Engineering department itself is quite good, they recently revamped the curriculum when I was there and have probably worked out the kinks by now. You have the opportunity to choose a concentration to specialize in (AI, control, signals, etc.) as a junior/senior. Most of the professors are good too. Good luck!
