Very nice talk. Thanks for podcast with scientist. Actually, in India unless you can disagree on something, you won't get a hit. So science channels are nowhere in youtube trends in India. Compare same with US or UK youtube where new video by some great science channels have their videos trending within hours of their upload.

good podcast. biology boom..!!! that's so cool to hear. the qn about internet and its effect on the evolution on human brain.. that's struck me like head blow. but I don't think it was answered properly. (or I couldn't understood the answer :) )

Good points about science and current state in India. But science is vast i.e. physics is far different from social science. The backclash is against the overzealous dogmatic scientific doctrine and not the humble scientific endeavor.

Public not liking programs on science is a lame excuse, a bun I’m. We love to watch the Discovery Channel, National Geographic etc. and are terribly bored of the main stream media and its biases. All excuses otherwise are basically for reasons of ineptitude .

369 thumbs up to 5 thumbs down! Exemplar of what cult is! This is not an anomaly, however. Most of the watchers of "Charvaka", Sattology, Jaipur Dialogue, PGuru, Nilesh Oak, Abhijit Chavda as well as Anand Ranganathan show this trait. Also the comments tend to be banal to inane some time its is just "Har Har Mahadev", "Jai Shree Ram" or some thing like that.

Is thr any study or survey which shows that scientists all over the world are right leaning in general? Because thr is a survey on scientists overwhelmingly being atheists or agnostics.

true scientists who are doing well would mostly likely be centrists. they might fluctuate around the centre, sometimes left and sometimes right but they would gravitate for a Nash equilibrium of the centre

It is this attitude of the left , to discuss only "atheism " that lead to the down fall especially in India . A more balanced approach of discussion on atheism and theism would help left to revive. Its understandable that left is inclined to atheism, but turning a blind eye to spirituality ( not thiesm) is choking it . if the left doesn't know the difference between spirituality and theism, left should give up hopes in India

Anand is taking a jibe at madhu trehan on the question of objectivity. Seems like he is frustrated with newslaundry. Newslaundry doesnt allow anand to spew his venom freely on their platform.

You might have your opinion about someone but you don't need to be a complete ass and shout your opinion. Next time you feel like expressing yourself on youtube try to do it in a single statement rather than multiple comments; I hope you know that youtube unlike twitter has no character limits. Moreover Anand has all the rights to be disgusted of Left just like you are disgusted by his views.

People like sam harris, steven pinker, noam chomsky etc bring a certain level of calmness and poise to their arguments although they belong to different ideologies. Anand ranganathan has something in common with these ppl and tht is scientific temperament. However, anand’s writings and his views on twitter and various podcasts have only outraged me as a person from the left. Categorising the entire left as a cult is not going to invite any love, affection and respect in return. And it would certainly not convey the message of objectivity to ur viewers/listeners/readers. U r a polarising figure urself anand. Now the question is whether u r aware of it and doing it deliberately or is it happening unwittingly.

@@pk9392 ha ha bharat deshpande is interested in trolling. He has come in many such videos (or his namesake) & starts pontificating about right wing, etc... Indian left is the most dishonest lot. Their mantra is just is my way or highway. They don't believe in the "other" voice or opinions. Anand is just right about them completely.

Anand! Ever heard of guys like Neil D Tyson, lawrence crauss, bil nye??? These guys make science interesting for the common public. And now compare urself with them (because u got the credentials to do tht). Now tell me if u r doing a good job or not? Stop being a smug elite intellectual trying to sermonise science to ur readers/viewers. And if u want to dabble in political discourse by bringing in scientific perspective to it then stop bullying others on twitter.
