I never released this because it was supposed to be part of a larger project but I wanted to share it. I was working on a project in the middle of the pandemic (April 2020) about 2002 Kings and the Kings-Lakers Western Conference Finals in 2002.
I figured I'd reach out to Bill Walton to get an interview.
He responded fast and made it happen. He was nice enough to talk to me for close to an hour about the series. His passion, memories and recall from that time was really special.
He didn't know me but he sure made me feel like a friend.
Rest in peace, Bill Walton.

Seeing him outside of Conseco Fieldhouse (now Gainbridge) walking down a backstreet behind the arena, he was wearing all black. So in the distance, I see this tall rail walking, not a soul around. It was like animation, something that thin and tall didn't look real. But to be wearing all black, well, that was Bill. Like a 7 ft. Johnny Cash strolling around a parking garage took me by surprise. I immediately knew who it was since he was doing the game that day.

Well put deuce. Bill Walton and Jim grey has stints with the kings. Night and day. Seeing The love for bill walton, it’s mad extensive. Throw it down big man, throw it down. The nasal delivery sticks in my head. Rest in peace big man. Condolences to the Walton family.

This video is truly special. You can just hear in his voice his love and passion for the game of basketball. You can hear that when he talk about the Kings bad luck and misfortune, that he is reflecting on his own past injury history. Truly a basketball Legend. I will never forget him calling Chris Webber dunks shouting "Throw it down, big man!" He was a great basketball player, announcer, music lover, and a truly great human being. Today I mourn his passing as deeply as If he was family, because i have known him in the public eye for all my life. He was of pure heart, and a kind soul, his impact on others is being widely felt and he leaves a legacy to which I or anyone else that loosely was affected by his greatness wont soon forget. R.I.P.
