Amazing, just got my Sage Barista Pro and all of your videos have been brilliant. I love how you combine steps like wetting the towel with steps that would generate water anyway, very efficient.

Great video! One accessory that I would recommend is a tick rubber tamping mat. It will reduce the noise and can absorb the hard tap vibration (I also use it to tap the milk jug). It's kind a loud when you hit the countertop 🙂 Cheers!

Have you found it successful yet? I had one and decided on a different color (lol), now I’m rethinking the machine due to the grinder opinions on it. Should I rebuy it in the color I want, or get a bambino and a better grinder? Is the grinder good enough I’ll enjoy it in a year or two? I know she mentions adjusting the inner bur setting.

Hi! I’m wondering, you talk normally for a ratio of 1:2, you have a 19g coffee for 30g extraction, is there a reason you did not set it to 38g? Thank you!!!
@HijabsandAprons

Yes! The beans I was using were recommended as a shorter shot, so that's why I was using a slightly smaller output. Don't be afraid to experiment once you're dialed in to 1:2 and want to adjust the shot for taste

You are correct! That's a general standard; but for this particular bean, the roaster themselves recommends a 1:1.5 ratio for this bean 😊 I try to always check if a roaster has recommended parameters for a bean so that I can use that as a guideline. Ultimately, however, the best way to brew is the way you like it best!! So always go base off your taste too. Thank you for watching!!

Generally it should be 1:2, so 26g output. But the roaster of this bean recommended closer to 1:1.5 ratio for that particular bean and I found it was tastier that way for that bean. Every bean is different!

I really like your instructional and narration. I use similar tools and techniques, except I only occasionally use WDT. I found that it doesn't make that much difference in extraction. Also, I save the used grounds for the garden.
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
Thank you so much! 🙏I haven't noticed a difference in taste either (maybe because I distribute decently by just shaking the heck out of my dosing cup?) but I feel like sometimes it makes a difference in the splatter from my bottomless portafilter. Frankly I think the WDT tool I have would benefit from having more holes/needles. Do you use a puck screen? It's been trending a lot lately. I save a puck or two occasionally for the plants but not consistently enough 😅
@lenhumbird
@lenhumbird 2 года назад
@@HijabsandAprons I shake my dosing cup a couple times, then peek to make sure it's level. My WDT has 3 pins. I don't think it would improve much even if it had 10 or 20 pins. I put the collar on and bang it on the counter straight down a couple times. Remove the collar, twist the distributor a few times. I have puck screens that fit the top and bottom. I used the top one, then the bottom one, then both a few times. Decided it might slightly improve extraction but was adding complexity to my routine. I prefer simple over perfection! I extract 3-4x per day, so I have lots of used pucks. I break them up with a fork and toss them in the compost bucket. I heard they're slightly acidic, but the worms seem to love them. You have a calm, peaceful attitude. I enjoy spending a few minutes with you every so often.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate your support. I was recently told by my Patreon member that the Barista Touch was difficult to work with and she exchanged her machine for a Barista Pro. You can DEFINITELY make do with the Barista Pro and if you have the time/patience and are willing/excited to learn about making espresso, then it'll be a great fit! If you need something much more convenient and don't care about fine tuning the taste of your espresso (i.e. if you rely on syrups and flavorings), then maybe the Barista Touch would be a good option for you. Hope this helps!

Hi there! New sub here and also new to the hobby. Got the same machine a few weeks back, and been in the process of perfecting my shots. I’ve pulled pretty good ones, but I think there’s still much room for improvement. One thing I haven’t tried tweaking is the pre-infusion time. Would you say that 7 seconds is a generally good sweet spot?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 6 месяцев назад
7 seconds is great in my opinion! I think I've heard to pre-infused until you see the first drop and then switch to full brewing pressure. So you can try a manual shot and then program it accordingly. Press and hold a shot button, as soon as you see a drop coming out, let go and let it run until you've achieved your desired shot volume 😊 thanks for watching and supporting my channel!!

@@HijabsandAprons Thank you for your responses, it really helps when creators actually reply! So this morning I changed the inner burr to 4, and the outer grind setting was maybe 8? I wish I paid closer attention. Anyway, with 18g and a single wall, I think it was close to how it should taste, but I think I needed to extract longer, I got under 30out. Do you count the timer from the moment you press the double shot button or from the moment the espresso starts coming out? Dialing in has been so challenging lately grr.

@n.k.4481 I count from when I press the button (meaning, I include the preinfusion in my brew time)

Nesquick in an espresso machine? Haha good one. My guess is you'd get a smooth hot cocoa with a hint of burnt 🥲

I love the color of the mug! Is it from loveramics?

Thank you! Actually this one isn't, it's from a random brand on Amazon: amzn.to/3zriWhS

@@HijabsandAprons Ohh thank you for the link! How does it compare to Loveramics?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
You're welcome! It's pretty similar. Loveramics is slightly thicker, if that makes sense. But this one is surprisingly durable and great quality. I honestly would've gotten all of mine from this brand if I'd known about it sooner. Mostly because I only needed/wanted one of each color but was forced to buy sets of 2 from Loveramics

Wow, when do you get the time to enjoy the coffee? I think this is way too meticulous and as long as you are doing the weigh, grind, dose and extraction correctly, you should be all good. Nice videos though. Salaam.

What camera setup do you use?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
Canon EOS R is my main camera (mounted to a C stand arm here). I usually never have a second camera but for this video, I just had my iPhone on a tripod off to the side.

@@HijabsandAprons got it. Thanks for the reply. Ohh one more thing… what about lighting? Are using diffusers or anything like that?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
No problem! Not in this video, but occasionally I use a Godox SL60W with a giant diffuser/scrim 🙂

You dont need to preheat the portafilter (or how its called / second language, sorry). Sage/Breville already put the cold portafilter into consideration in the heat settings.
