Really interesting video, Gordon! So you just download the video from your phone to RU-vid without any sort of audio editing? The audio is very good! Again, thanks for sharing this!

When I do single track videos I add a tiny amount of reverb in my video editor because this room is dead. The multitrack videos I do are different - I split the audio and video, pull the audio up in Audacity, add compression and a bit of reverb. I never really do any substantial editing or use EQ. I bought the interface second hand - they are a bit expensive new, but I like how its self powered from the phone. I have the gain set low enough so the green overdrive light never comes on and control the final output using the mic gain control in Filmic Pro. On some phones, Filmic will let you set the audio codec. My current phone only allows AAC, my previous one allowed lossless PCM audio. I can't really tell the difference though as my ears are not lossless.

Thanks. I am looking to build a similar set up. I am an opera singer and I guess will go with Shure sm58 since it’s their vocal mic. Even though I read comments that say the 57 is also really good for vocals too. Do you have an opinion about that? Also I am wondering how it would work if I play the piano as well or someone else accompanying me since it’s a dynamic mic and has to be very close to my mouth.

The SM57 has a similar response to the 58 but they both have a limited range. I think you will need two microphones and a USB mixer.

@@GordonHudson thanks for the quick reply. With a usb mixer would I still be able to connect and record video with my phone? If I use a usb mixer than I wouldn’t need the x2u right? Getting confused now. I also want to keep it as simple as possible. Because I would probably travel and want to record myself in various locations.

@@miloslavantonov3863 A USB mixer would have two microphones plugged into it with a single USB output for your phone. The difference is that a mixer requires power (usually). iRig and other companies make them. I used to use an Alesis one.
