+Lawrence Luo i see no difference in this guy buying ridiculously expensive knifes for defense situations? if he needed a knife for utility a $20 would be fine
I'm 41 years old and I've just bought a 2000$ Bodega. I think the amount of money you are willing to spend on a knife is very much a floating target. It can go up and it can go down. It all depends on your current degree of knife interest and how much money you have to spend. A while ago I never thought I would spend as much as 500$ on a knife. Now I own four knives worth more than 800$. One more "problem" is that when you get this expensive knife you will reassess your limit. I mean "if I spent 2000$ on this knife then I can spend just 500$ more on this other knife." I have to say though that in order to buy this 2000$ knife I sold off almost half of my collection of cheaper knives. So the value was already in my collection. Great video and awesome knife by the way. Have a nice day and greatings from Sweden to all knife lovers!
i started loving knives when i was 14, starting with a paramilitary 2 (that i still have and use), kershaw skyline and benchmade griptillian. ive now gone away from buying knives at age 17 and have begun making them for myself. knifemaking is definetely a passion, very rewarding
I get the feeling when he talking about the guy who owns 100k worth of knives and owns a muscle car. Sounds like he's talking about Jim Skelton who's another great RU-vid I watch.
I'm 17, the most I've spent on a knife thus far was ~$130 on my Manix 2. Most I could ever really see myself consider spending is probably the $300-$500 range. That's mostly due to having other hobbies (primarily keeping animals) that are costly and interest me more.
I'm in my mid 20s and in grad school currently. My most expensive knife is my Hinderer 3.5 inch XM-18 Fatty edition spanto. It's took several months to track one down, cost approx. $450, and it's my current EDC. Man I love the knife.
As far as how much I would ever spend on a knife... I have no idea. I guess it depends on how successful I am in the future (and how much I like the knife, how potentially collectable it is, etc.). I buy and sell collectables that I find at auctions on the side (which is how I support my collecting of all sorts of things).
My most expensive knife is worth around $10,000. Possibly more. I am really into it. If I had 100 grand i'd buy a zipper blade Michael walker bladelock.
squadleaderjoey I have a full Damascus frank fischer battle. Completely screwless/hidden hardware. Fileworked backspacer. Hidden lock relief and stop pin. It's the only completely hidden hardware knife made by him. You can actually check it out on my channel. I posted a little video of me flipping it
James Abel Hahaha. I carry it on a fancier date if it is my and my girl's anniversary dinner or something i'll take it out then. I think she had a string on her shirt so I whipped that out to cut it off. Probably one of the only things that knife has ever cut. It's mostly a show piece or for special occasions
I'm 45. I won a Reeve Sebenza in a raffle at a county fair. I love it. The rest of my knives are £50 to £100 ( about $60 to $120 I think ). The Reeve is my favourite though. 😀
In my early 30s, not sure how many knives I got, but definitely over 50. Never had a knife that is over US$60, will never consider a US$150 knife no matter how good it is. I love knife, but I have better and more important place to put my money on, etc saving, family.
Yeah no need to spend that much. maybe if you use it daily like a chef will then yeah but for that price to much. I know alot of sushi place that needs good knife but it's for good use not just to sit there and not use
Enzorox but why have 50 lesser knives when you could have 6 or 7 amazing Knives? the fact that you won't buy a knife over 150 bucks doesn't mean that you are spending less money. it means you put your money into many cheap knives instead of getting a few good ones
Aiden Aguirre quite honestly after you get to a certain price range the cost is way to high for very little extra quality for me I'd say around 200 is the most I'd pay for a knife
I’m 25. Most expensive knife I own is a Marfione Custom Matrix crusader cross worth north of $1000. I own a few Chris Reeves and my most recent purchase is a custom ScorpionSix Mektig. I just love how simple they are and yet the wide variety of ways to make things sharp. It’s an incredible hobby and a long journey that I look forward to continuing.
+The Power Of Red my most expensive knife is like 14 bucks or something, and comes with a free game. Never had enough money to buy an actual knife like a balisong or a karambit...
+Markov Algeroth only because you are 19, and you should know better, I'm going to call bullsh*t. Tungsten carbide? The only thing you do with that material would be making drill bits, and knife sharpeners. And they rarely cost that much unless you're looking in to oilfield bits. If you're telling the truth, post a brand and model.
I should know better? You should know better than to not do research before you start openly calling someone out. Punk knifenews.com/sandrin-tungsten-carbide-knives/ Ass sandrinknives.com/ Bitch sandrinknives.com/explorer.html
+Markov Algeroth I stand corrected, but that also brings up another question. What kind of person wants a knife that ugly, and the brittle? I mean, of course you know, the higher the hrc, the more brittle it becomes. Just sounds like a very expensive gimic, and they found a few suckers like you.
For it being ugly, that's completely opinion based. You think this knife is ugly? That's your opinion. I think tanto knives are ugly. That's my opinion. How ugly you think it is doesn't matter. For it being brittle, yes. It is brittle. But brittleness is not the only relevant property. The tungsten carbide / cobalt alloy used is also really damn durable, meaning you're going to have to cut something with more power than a human being can muster. On the Sandrin site it states that the TC they use has a Rockwell Hardness of 71, whereas standard TC is normally 75-82, so the knife isn't going to be as brittle as drill-bit grade TC anyway. It'll break or chip of you abuse it by bashing it or prying with it, but that is the same as with any other knife that is hard enough to hold a decent edge for a while. sandrinknives.com/faq.html Don't call me a sucker until you actually R E S E A R C H what you're tying to sound smart about.
You're definitely right about it being regular people buying these knives. I haven't personally gotten to that level yet, but an uncle of mine dropped $2,300 on a knife, and he's just a regular working class guy. But I'm 22, and so far the most expensive knife I have is a WE Double Helix, and it's a $285 knife. But, I would be willing to go up into the $400-$500 range. That may change later on, but right now, that would be my top.
Im 38, but have only been into folding knives for about a year. Probably bought about 20 folders so far. (A few as gifts) Most expensive knife is the Blurple Manix 2 at ~$140. There are some nice knives in the $180-220 range I might like to check out someday. I think beyond that you are mostly paying for a piece of art. I have nothing against that, but it's not where >I< am with knives, at least not yet.
That's what i was thinking until he said something about his passion for knives. I think Jim loves knives more than most, I mean you gotta have a passion for something if you're gonna make videos on it.
I thought so too. Maybe that's why alot of them are willing to spend so much on knife. I never had a knife over US$100. Will never consider a knife over US$150. Had better place to put my money on.
Enzorox Well, that's your choice. Though I'm sure tweens may have the desire to own nice things, I don't think they have as much disposable income as adults. But when it comes down to it, you buy what you want and if it makes you happy, it's worth it. I'm sure you've spent more than $150 on things that I never would, and there's nothing wrong with that.
You'd be surprised at least for me I just turned 18 yesterday, but most of my teen income just went to junk, I paid insurance and my phone and gas money, I mean my first job when I was 16 my third paycheck I bought a AKC registered Labrador just because
Bryan Devereaux Yeah, that's pretty much how it goes. No surprise there. haha... I'm just talking about the fact that the "average" teen isn't likely to have as much disposable income as an established adult. Doesn't mean you couldn't save then splurge on an expensive knife (or whatever) though. Just probably not thousands worth of knives etc, like collectors you see on youtube.
19yo, ZT 0562cf , I sold one of my rifles and put some money with it to buy it. I kept being told I would regret selling my rifle , but I've had this guy for a couple months and it still amazes me every time I pull it from my pocket. Now I'm looking into getting an XM-18 Ideally a slicer grind or Wharnie.
I'm 50 and the most expensive knife I currently own is a Benchmade. It's a griptilian and I'm very happy with it which is making me want to try out some more expensive knives because $50 was my limit before. The most I think I could go now is around $200 and not lose any sleep! Great video by the way.
I’m 25 and I’ve been watching you since I was 17 you literally got me into Balisongs and the most expensive knife I currently own I just purchased a week ago, I purchased it from Arizona Custom Knives for $1,395 it’s a Marfione Custom Tachyon 3 Apocalyptic Finished Channeled Titanium Handles with a DLC Coated hand Rub Satin Finish
I am 21. I have around 1500$ in knives, maybe a little less, maybe a little more, some of the more expensive ones I have are vintage, nowhere to be found on the internet, not even a picture or mention so it's hard to say. Have other weapons/tools. My most expensive knife (that I know the price of) Is probably the Buck Marksman tanto stonewash version. It satisfies the 'high end' feel for me, because it is probably the smoothest action ever made on a knife, absolutely zero resistance while opening or closing due to the very weird design, and because of that satisfies the 'crazy new inventive design' ' gimmicky sorta appetite for me as well. It's also very tactical looking, a pretty nice knife for any of those three purposes. Also just got a Case Kickstart Trapperlock, about the same price.
I'm 38 and my most expensive knife is mt EDC CKRT M16 with carbon fiber scales, and I found the knife I have always wanted, a Gerber Applegate/Fairbairn combat folder.Never thought I'd get one but several years ago found one in like new condition for only $5 at a yard sale, the woman selling it said it was her son-in-law who wasin the Navy and him and her daughter were moving to CA. Only thing is the sheath is missing but the knife is just as sound as the day it was made.
21 years old, college student. My most expensive knife currently is a Bear & Son Kodiak Series Barlow (About $45-50). I did have a Cold Steel Code 4 (About $65-75), and I loved it. Unfortunately I lost it last Thanksgiving. Dream knife: Protech Godson with (Mastodon Tooth scales and Gold inlays) or a Cold Steel Pendleton Custom Classic.
I have never seen an elmax folding knife! In my opinion, this knife is definitely worth it, because its the sort of thing that your great-great grandkids inherit
54 years old. Most expensive knife is a Benchmade 940, great knife. Like you it would have to be an amazing knife, but could see $1500 being the most I would spend. Keep up the great work on your videos.
I’m in my mid 50’s and I have maybe 10 or so knifes. The most expensive knife I own is about $100.00 I like knifes but I’m not spending a ton of money on them. I EDC a CRKT Eros with the IKBS bearing system. It flips out with great speed and holds a nice edge. I also carry a neck knife as an EDC under my shirt and I wear a t shirt everyday, so the neck knife is very comfortable and don’t rub up against my bear skin. The neck knife is great for opening boxes at work, then I don’t have to dull my EDC CRKT opening boxes. I’m also a big Spyderco fan, they can run a bit over the $100 dollar range but are well worth it!
18 years of age here. A BM 940 is almost 300 bucks here in Sweden, which I found worth it. I've been let down by it twice, so I changed the omega springs to home made ones and now I trust it fully. I bought it as a tool, and I'll use it as one. It's seen everything from gutting and killing fish to sharpening pencils, opening beer bottles and stripping cables. It's worn and it will be worse.
I own 75 +/- knives. The most i would spend on a knife is $300+. My most expensive knife is a 3v Bark River bush crafter or Bravo Survivor. I have maxed out my knife collection as i haven't bought a new knife in almost 8 months. Heck i recently bought a Ganzo Lionhead knockoff and love it. .I am 46 going on 14, love (besides my amazing wife and kids) knives, guns, motorcycles (all performance vehicles), star wars, sports. Keep the good stuff coming world, LIVE HARD
I'm 19, paying for a car atm... so that limits my knife purchases by a ton, my most expensive knife is around $120 and it's just a nice and simple EDC carry Spyderco Sage 1 finally purchased a few months ago and love it, only after wanting it for 4+ years after seeing your review
i'm 18 and my most expensive knife is my S&W M9 Bayonet $90 i believe. its a huge fixed blade honestly never even used it but its one of my favorite blades haha
Well I'll be 60 years old in June. My most expensive knife is a Benchmade - I don't remember the model number but it's a beauty. It costs $153. It's got really a nice blade - CPM-154, G10 scales, etc. I recently purchased the Kershaw Launch 2 automatic because they recently made automatics legal in TN. I got a good deal on it at Smoky Mountain Knife Works for $80😀
I'm 17 years old and my Benchmade 63 is my most expensive knife at around 340. But I have 10 or so others from 200-300 bucks. But also have around 130 cheaper knives at around 20-80 bucks each, I love just as much and they all serve the same purpose to me.
i actually talked to a coworker who is an 18 year old girl about expensive knives because i carry a custom benchmade 62, benchmade 51-1801, and a benchmade nestucca with a custom leather sheath. after getting into super steels and titanium vs chinesiums her opinion changed from thinking $50 was too much for a nice knife to her considering saving up $100 for a self defence knife and understanding why id be willing to spend $1000 on a balisong made by the right maker without a second thought and even loving the idea of a multi-thousand dollar knife with precious stones and hand engraving
23 years old and i have a $300 knife. a Gerber that my friend carried with him on tour in Afghanistan and many otherplaces. very sentimental and i love this knife
Hi Jeff how's it goin? I'm 28 years old and also am huge into knives and glad to have come across your channel!! My most expensive knife is my DART-XT gambit style folder with the tanto blade, made by my favorite martial artist Doug marcaida. I spent almost 200 dollars for it but I thought it was worth the money without question. Thank you again for what you do and hope to see more knives and battlboxes in the futire!!
I am 17, my most expensive knife is a Gerber that cost me 15 bucks. I had a JAFROTC field trip and during it we ate at a small mini mall at Robbins Air force base, everything was tax free, and me and my mom had just 16 dollars left after a shopping spree and eating. I always buy a knife and spoon whereever I go on a field trip, I sadly couldnt find a spoon. So my mom made it up to me and surprised me with it. Its just a cheap Gerber and I have aspirations to get better more expensive knives. But this one is my favorite that I will never get rid of.
im 23 and been collecting since i was 12. I bought my most expensive knife when i was 20 and it cost 165€ that knife is Esee-4. Still love it and it's my go to knife if i need real stuff done, not just letter/box opening. Im saving for TOPS - Tom Brown tracker that costs almost 300€. I know that knife has a lot of hate around it but i just like how it looks, the shape and angles of it is quite nice looking. The most i would put in on a knife.. would depend on a knife.. but i guess around 1000€
Hello Sir, really cool knife, I am 28 years old and the most expensive knife I've ever purchased was 199 EUR, It was a French knife called Le THIERS Secret Carbone by Claude Dozorme, I don't think I will ever buy something more expensive than this, but as you may understand this can change, I have an average job as a software developer, and trust me, paying this amount for a knife requires some months of saving, I am happy with my purchase, and I am glad to see that there is more people like me collecting knives, as you said, it is a sacrifice, and I think only knife loving people can understand. Have a great day sir.
23 years old. My most expensive knife is a $250 fixed blade forged by one of Murray Carters Journeyman smiths, Jamison Chopp. I carry it almost everywhere and use it like it's a $50 dollar knife. It's amazing. I also rather love my handmade friction folders by Hiroaki Ohta for when a fixed blade isn't so appropriate. I have two of those. $80 and $60.
I'm 33 and I started with lower priced knives..... The older I got I started selling off all my old knives for less than I paid for my 1st high end production knife.... I've spent up to $500 on a microtech knife and it's well worth it I have friends that have spent $1800.00 on 1 custom knife... It's nice but I have experienced it personally and I still love production knives just as much... If you really want a nice custom or even high end production knife there are lots of websites that sell knives with free layaway...just make sure you read the terms! And really want that knife before you commit to paying a large amount!
18, recent high school graduate. Most I've ever spent on a knife was $25 for a Victorinox Hiker. I'm not necessarily frugal, but that and my Mora Companion and I'm good to go. Most I would spend is $80 or $90 (I'm looking at the Ontario Rat 7, so tempted). I was gifted a Buck 110, and a really nice William Henry folder, though. I know Buck 110's go for about $40, but this one's beyond price, very sentimental. The William Henry I refuse to look up the price for out of respect (it was a gift, after all), but I know they're up there.
Man I used to hate knives. I always thought why own a knife when you can own a gun. I couldnt imagine spending 20$ on a knife. But after I got my hand on a good one I went crazy. My most expensive is a gold series Benchmade about 650. I got a couple Medfords and a bunch of benchmades, Spyderco's and spent about 9000 on different knives.
I’m 19, and I bought a Benchmade 940-2 Osborne with carbon fiber handle scales, an S90V blade, with an aftermarket custom carbon fiber pocket clip, and laser engraved blade. All in all, it’s $395.
45 yrs old most I've paid for a knife was $430 for a Matt Cucchiara Dorado "Dragon Eye". Also have a Robert Merz Damascus/Ivory lockback folder valued at $1200, I won it from Knife Rights Ultimate Steel Giveaway.
This is super cool, I have collected some pretty fancy items for years now. 34 years old, I am far far from "wealthy" but I have paid for all my gear. It is the center focus of everything however and where I get most my enjoyment from. There is definitely a cool feeling you get when you hold it and think how much effort and time went into some of this art.
I had a cold steel for about a decade before it broke. A friend made me a custom knife then (a few years ago) and I bought a Sebenza 21 small micarta inlay today. I went in for something else but really liked this.
I'm 15, and have been collecting knives for about 2 years. My most expensive knive is a Emerson cqc, which was about $180. The most I would spend on a knife is about 1.5K. My dream balisong is the BRS Replicant, but knifewise, the spyderco native 5 in maximet steel. I know it costs less than the Replicant, but I like it. Also, I'm a total mush for tanto blade style knives.
I'm 21, have around a dozen knives. Most expensive folding knife is a Centofante III for around $60, but my most expensive chefs knife is a Shun Kiritsuke Classic for about $105
27 Right now an XM 18 bowie or the large sebenza insingo about 400 USD each. I ended up settling in the 400-500 USD price point for what I'd buy and carry. I've had a couple more expensive knives, but I never ended up carrying them. Around the price of a large sebenza is where I'm most comfortable with. But to each their own, that is a gorgeous blade!
19 : Most expensive knife is a Tidioute Cutlery (GEC) Ben Hogan, Red River Acrylic. Beautiful knife, it's very hard for me to drop a lot of money but she was on sale and I could just say no. $65 later and i'm not regretting a single penny
Lucas here, I'm 19, and I've had multiple Bear and Son balis, one being their standard $40 version, which broke, and the other was their bear ops version, at around $90 when I got it, which I enjoyed but was unfortunately stolen when our house was robbed. That was probably the most expensive I've bought, though I'd be willing to spend more if I had the money. My end game for my edc bali is the BRS AlphaBeast 3.0, which is around $370 depending on where you buy it.
Im 34 been collecting since teen years super high ends are beautifully made but a grand is ridiculous, my most exspensive is a Zero tolerance 560, think it was $250 or so, which for money to quality ratio i think zero tolerance has the best balance, gorgeous knife though, thanks for showing it!
Im that 13 year old kid with a winchester fixed blade you did a video on a long time ago, i was so happy to have a knife that you have! i still have it and it's my favorite knife. I love your videos and when i grow up i will have a lot of knives like you but i will always have my winchester to remember we all have to start somewhere. And btw im saving up some money to get a buck kalinga pro, its a beautiful knife and ill let you know if i get it
I own 7 knives. My most expensive one I just got in the mail today was a bit over 50 bucks including shipping. The knife is a classic Buck folding hunter. It is my best knife in terms of performance and my favorite overall. Not a knife I am gonna use for EDC but I will take it out here and there in my house, and I am not taking anything away from my other knives, its just some are more to please the eyes and others are strong in performance. For EDC I use a leather man multi tool which obviously has a knife on it.
26 year old male, not married, been collecting knives since I started cub scouts, and discovered the knife and EDC community just three years ago. My most expensive knife is my $500 Chaves Redención 228 that came just two weeks ago. Currently I have a green ano skull clip ($100) on it and plan to invest at least another $100 getting it customized. In the future I know I will spend over a grand for a single knife with no hesitation.
I'm 60 years old, been collecting since I was 8 years old. Have had over a 5 hundred knives. Most of those were really inexpensive. Few years ago sold them all, and now collect customs and mid techs, Most I ever spent was $3200 on one knife. Currently own over $50k worth and carry a $2k knife every day...Not bragging or complaining, it is what it is....Yet still have and use Cold Steel, Spyderco, and ZT...I don't know exactly how many I have now, I'd say around 20 or so knives not counting the sub fifty dollar ones....And I'd have to say my all time favorites are the Todd Begg ones...
This guy is brilliant. He got all of you to comment on how much you're willing to spend on a high-end knife, some $500-1000+. Now he can shop his channel to the highest cutlery sponsorship bidders. Well played sir.
I'm 19 and my most expensive knife is my Benchmade Griptillian sheepfoot blade which is £80 around $100. I'd spend a lot on knives and I'm obsessed with them!
Nice vid dude. I'm 26, retired Marine, always loved gear and military stuff. I've got 3 blades, my most expensive is my Spyderco Mamba: $350-$550 depending on where you get it.
27 y/o, current most expensive knife is $160 (Cold Steel Spartan), the most I would ever spend on a single knife is probably around $200~400 for a EDC-model and around $400~600 for a large fancy collectible. Beyond that price point, imho, the knife effectively loses it's functional purpose as a tool. It becomes simply too expensive to ever use, even in theory.
23 and I have loved knives and been watching your channel since the beginning. My most expensive knife is worth like $70. I think If I had the money to spend I would probably spend a couple hundred on a knife if the price was due to high quality and durability, but I am less a collector and more a user. I try not to purchase anything I'm not going to use. That's not to say you can't use an expensive knife. I think quality is a lot more important than quantity, but I think I can get most of my cutting tasks done with a 50 dollar spyderco edc blade or even a sub 20 dollar utility knife.
Im 15 and have 3 knives. 1 CCC trainer balisong. A handmade fixed 3" scout knife that I made with my father. My 3rd and favorite is my Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting knife
Late to the comment party but...30yrs old, have an Otanashi Noh Ken by CRKT as my first decent knife 150$. recently purchased an American Lawman by Cold Steel. Finally another yesterday which is a custom Demko AD15 full titanium...950$. Not rich, just save for stuff I really love.
I'm 40 and my edc is a benchmade 940-2 modified with titanium blue anodized screws. I do collect folding knives along with rare or unique material zippos. My most expensive hobby is collecting pinball machines. however my knives are one of my favourites to collect! My cheapest is a spyderco tenacious and on the higher end is a few benchmade gold class and spyderco sprint run knives.. with a good mix in the middle range (my most recent is a stryker damasteel gold class) my dream knife would be the next one I fall in love with regardless of price... since I collect for myself and not to flip or re-sell.
... as for the apparent younger audience then me... I started the same way. buy first what you can afford and is functional to you then keep investing if you are into it. and do your research... and most importantly try one out first hand in a shop before buying! you'd be surprised if you are new to knife collecting the differences between seeing one with dimensions online compared to it feeling different in the hand in person. .... but you guys and gals are savvy! ... probably not telling anything you don't already know
16 year old kid here with an interest in knives since I got my first when I was 8. Little did I know that that Benchmade griptilian was worth $150 and I lost it... since then I've taken much better care of my knives and have a small collection, I prefer traditional knives and my favorite brand is Aranyik because they're made of good steel and cost no more than $50. I edc a mora proline C cause it looks non-threatening and its functional. The absolute most id ever spend on a knife (right now) is probably $100 maybe $150 but it'd have to be really special and as high of quality as i can get for the money. personally I would rather buy 2-3 aranyiks or condors or CRKTs or 5 moras than get 1 small Bark river or a benchmade. My dream knife would probably be a Marfione sigil in copper for a folder and an Albion kreigmesser for a fixed blade.
I'm currently 24. the most expensive knife I have owned is my CS Espada XL. The SRP is around $270-290. I also own a KA-BAR Zombro ~$130. Bought two CS Spartans, retail for $80. Leatherman MUT $140. also have three Gerber multitools that range from $35-$70. I think come tax time I'm going to get a BRS Replicant which is currently $270. Always get what you pay for. Plus all the knives I find cool happen to be expensive.
Man, that's a beautiful knife, congrats!👍 At the moment, my most expensive knives are a Randall Made Model 4-6 Fighter and a Fällkniven V1L Volcano. Both were around $500 which is just about my limit for a knife.
I'm 19, and my most expensive knife is a Benchmade Griptilian in S30V that I got off of their customers builder on their website. I bought it when I was 18, and I can't remember how much I spent but it was over $250. I got it in G10, with the foliage green horizontal pattern handle scales. I already have a Griptilian, but it was a sheep's foot with serrations and OD green handle. I abused the shit out of it. I have a few knives over $100, Spyderco Sage 1, ZT 0450CF, Piranha P1 Pocket, Quartermaster Mr. Roper QSE-5XLS, Cold Steel Recon 1 clip point, and I have a new Case Mako with ebony handles on the way that I got for about $100 on SMKW, but this is the only one I've spent over $200 on. and I gotta say, it was worth every penny
