I dont think your dad understands what Iconic is. What he described is a classic. Iconic songs arent supposed to be timeless, if anything they're the opposite. they're supposed to symbolize that time in music. Black and yellow was Iconic, I remember a time where everything was about that song. Everybody used to sing that song in the halls, reference it in jokes, talk about it on the bus. let me disagree with dad on this one with his own words. Iconic songs are songs that make an impact on a large scale of people correct? with that in mind, there are a few songs on that list that are iconic to the younger generation for reasons dad couldn't understand. such as "Swimming Pools", "Day n Night", "I'm not Afraid", "SAD!".. Just to name a few. just because the songs haven't made an impact on him or his generation, does not mean that they have not made an impact on a younger generation that has dealt with different issues. I myself love "Dear Mama", but cannot relate to the song itself. I can however, along with a very large group of people, relate to "Swimming Pools" because of the alarming raise in underage alcoholism there was in my generation.
