"Dragon Tears" was the very first Koontz novel that I read and I have been hooked every since. He probably my favorite author.

I just started reading koontz. Loving it.

The key to midnight was my first Koontz read. He’s a great author and I’m working on reading all his books. I started king in 2017 and have since read almost 40 Of his books. I just started Koontz this year and I’ve already got 3 under my belt that were all great (Key to Midnight, Phantoms and Icebound).

I dont understand why people have books they don't read or have read it and thought it was bad but yet they keep it on the book shelf. Why? Lol I would get rid of it. Btw my fav is intensity and that is the only koontz book I own.

I started on Koontz because of you with Innocence. I agree about From the Corner of His Eye. Currently reading The Face (it's giving me nightmares) and I you're so right about craving his books. He's such a master story teller.

I am also a writer who has been influenced by Koontz. I got heavily into his books around 1985 or so. I was at a Waldenbooks and came to the realization that I ran out of Stephen King books. Then I saw a copy of Phantoms, a black hardcover by this fella Dean R. Koontz. I'd never heard of him before. Then I saw the blurb on the cover from Stephen King: "Gruesome...unrelenting." Well, if King felt so strongly, maybe I would to? So I bought it and dived right into it when I got home. I absolutely loved it. I then tracked down every Koontz book I could, including his early science fiction. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. I then discovered they'd made a few movies out of his books, including the very schlocky, acid sci fi horror Demon Seed. The book is a lot better than the movie. Over the years I was disappointed again and again by the mediocre adaptations, where Hollywood just did whatever it wanted to with his work. But at least the books were good.

Excellent! I've been wanting to read more Dean Koontz books. Now I know which ones to go for!

You can't expect Dean to write the same stories over and over. Then you would really have a complaint. Deans just in a slump. I got a feeling he's going to surprise everyone with something new and off the hook. Don't count him out yet!!

I started with Key to Midnight. I think that his best are the "early Koontz". I love The Funhouse.

I have read "Strangers" and "Watchers" so many times, I had to replace them. Loved the "The Face of Fear"; psychological thriller with a twist. Intensity scared me to death and I was so tired when I got through it. I empathized so much with the lead character both mentally and physically it wore me out.

Koontz is a great and underrated writer.

Phantoms is actually my fav. book! I have really only read most of his "Golden Age" books. I want to reread them since it has been awhile. I reread Phantoms this year and still love it. I also read Intensity for the first time this year and you are right....it's intense. The Killers "Logic" of killing was interesting and well told! (LOL about the Moose) I loved Watchers (Einstein the dog!) and Servants of Twilight as a teen too! Great vid, I did not know he had an earlier sci-fi writing career!

I like the first and second Odd Thomas novels I haven't read the others yet

Nice collection. About half as large as mine. ;) 0:35 is sleeved on my shelf since forever. First read it back in 68, and been hooked on Koontz ever since. 0:55 Try analyzing _your first book sales, _*_in 1968 dollars._* Will be interesting to see the _true comparative difference._

Fear Nothing is the 1st Chris Snow book, then its Seize the night. The third book Ride the storm is apparently still being written!😎👍🏻

Glad to hear that you liked Ashley Bell. I've seen the reviews for it and it seems like a lot of people didn't like it but I started listening to a little bit of the audiobook on RU-vid and it's very intriguing and sounds like it would be good. So I think I will check it out, especially after your recommendation. I haven't read a ton of his books but most of them I've liked fairly well, most recently read False Memory and that was a good one.

During lockdown I read all of his Leigh Nichols books. All of them had similar storylines and it could’ve been one huge novel disguised as six separate books but I did enjoy each one 😷😎👍🏻

*_The Face of Fear_* was turned into a Made for TV movie, with *Lee Horsley,* the guy that played _Matt Houston_ as the hero. The TV Show did a pretty good justice to the novel. *_Intensity,_* was made into a totally gripping made for TV 2-part movie, that is near impossible to find on DVD anymore. John C. McGinley plays the evil Vess to a tee! *_Sole Survivor_* is yet another novel turned into a pretty good, Made-for-TV movie. *_Demon Seed_* was a contractual obligation as a Movie Script to Novel. The novel, IMHO was much better than the film, despite my hots for Julie Christie at the time. *_Frankenstein Series_* The last three books in it were a collaborative effort. Hence the change in style. Ahh, that explains why I haven't seen your novels. They're for the Young Adult crowd. Not saying that's a bad thing at all, because there are some YA author's I enjoy immensely. Have to check you out at the library, whenever this bull manure panic over the SARS-2 virus blows over. 11:50 Your readers will say *Okay Boomer moment ahead* As a believer in Christ, I find your dismissal of our Faith to be a disturbing trend in the generations after Dean's and mine. One that has led to America's segregation & division that is destroying the very fabric that America was founded upon. Dean sees this, and is compelled to try and bring a sense of Faith back into our lives. 12:10 *Okay Apron Holder* We already established your bias against all things Christian. Something else, that I believe you are way the heck off target on, about the endings of Dean Koontz books is, _No, they are not all Happy, Cheery, Touchy-Feely_ endings. The majority of them do leave you with _Hope, Wonderment, & a Sense of Justice Persevering over Evil._

Watchers was the first novel I ever read, I was in like 4th grade, maybe a little young but it got me into reading

I can’t get into his writing I’ve tried so hard but he just doesn’t click with me at all did really like watchers. I just can’t get into his books.

If you read one book a week for your entire adult life it would average a little over 3100 books. So choose your books wisely.

Dean Koontz is my favourite author by far coming second is Richard Layman who is like Koontz but more into the sexual part of horror. If you haven't read him give him a shot. I've read a lot of the books you reviewed. I totally went against your review of a lot. The Frankenstin books 📚 I thought the town was insanely good. Especially the hospital one. Watchers was excellent. But I will agree with you Odd Thomas was the best 👌

Started with Watchers...in my teens. Loved it. The re-read was ok....just finished By the light of the moon....excited to read another.

Twilight eyes was great

I dropped off Koontz about a decade or so ago, about the time Odd Hours came out. That book was so boring! I pretty much skimmed it, reading the first sentence of every paragraph just to finish it. I was tired of the sameness of his characters by then, too. If you’ve read any of his books, you know them: the man who doubts himself, his abilities, and his self-worth, the woman, beautiful, but almost completely unaware of it, with a tragic past that’s she’s overcome to become completely self reliant and awesome, and the child who is smart and wise beyond his/her years. That being said, I love so many of his books. I’ve read a lot of the early ones and golden age. My favorites used to be the ones I first read, in order. Watchers, Lightning, Midnight, Strangers. I was in high school.That’s changed a bit over the years, but I would agree, Twilight Eyes is definitely one of his best.

So what would be your best book??? I loved fear nothing, I named my border collie after "Orson". I have also listened to one of the odd books I was disappointing so much that I won't listen to the rest of that series.

I literally am shocked that we agree on just about every Koontz book. Other than I did not like the bad place and I loved from the corner of his eye I completely agree with your take on every other book. Don’t bother wasting your time with the city, it does not get any better. It’s just plain terrible.

Sorry but Fear Nothing is the first in the Moonlight Bay series, not the second. You also missed One Door away from Heaven and the servants of twilight came out a lot earlier.

How about ELSEWHERE? Just finished that book. A simple read and predictable, but a nice escape. I don't generally like books where the main characters just go from one crisis to another until the final page. It reminds me of old 1940's movie serials or Edgar Rice Burroughs - no real plot other than the main characters getting out of 1 jam and then falling immediately into another jam. When I read this kind of book, I keep wondering when there will be a PLOT other than good guys running from bad guys. I admit that by the time I had read two thirds of ELSEWHERE, I just wanted to jump to the last chapter where everyone lived happily ever after. I was tired of one episode of violence after another as the good guys were constantly on the run. I want a lot more from a book than this.

It’s actually a nice change of pace in terms of religion. King is an atheist as are most authors nowadays so Koontz being catholic is no more preachy than king who has kind of become a nut these days on Twitter

I'm trying to find a book by Dean Koontz around the year 2011. A SPIRIT ATTACHES TO this man and he brings it into his house where it ATTACHES to his son to get to his son's daughter. I read this book years ago and forgot the title . I want to reread it again.

My first was watchers I’ve read a few more since, he isn’t my favourite his character work is poor but on the most part he spins a good yarn, I’m a king man through through but I appreciate Koontz
