I really enjoyed the series, what an achievement to be proud of for sure. It is now 2 years after your build and I came across the series as I am converting a set of 70 year old horizontal mill castings into a small vertical milling machine. the castings are certainly a wonderfull place to start with but somewhat limiting in many ways. However your build has given me a rekindled interest in my project. Thank you very much

Thank you so much! Sadly it will take a little longer to produce part 5 since i haven't even done all upgrades i am planning to do. Filming and editing is a whole different beast.

This is the best homemade milling project I have found on RU-vid also. It seems like the most realistic, rigid, simple and useful designs as a milling machine should be. I am definitely going to use some of your ideas that you used to build my homemade milling machine. I've bought enough industrial scrap/ machine parts at auctions over the years that I don't have to make the knee table lift mechanism from scratch or buy any new parts. Subscribed and I am looking forward to how it turns out or any upgrades needed later on.

Thank you man! I just baught the gingery book a view weeks ago. It really is a great one to read. Well i am almost finished with all the upgrades i wanted to do on the mill. So it's only a matter of weeks before a new part will be uploaded. Hope you are going to like this one as well :D

Thank you! Until now they do. I had one incidence where the belt slipped. This resulted in one of the pulley steps being a bit molten (still functional tho).

Really enjoyed your build, amazing craftsmanship ! how do you lock the vertical height of the column after you raise or lower it with the ball screw? thanks for posting.
@wastelandworkshop3839
@wastelandworkshop3839 7 месяцев назад
Thank you for the comment. Glad you like it. Well the ball screw itself isn´t actually locked. The positon of the table along the Z axis can be locked by tightening a machined screw that pushes onto the handwheel - shaft. It has a special brass tip in order to protect the shaft from getting indents. This is one of the topics in part 5 of my milling machine video series. At exactly 2:10.

I have the same xy table as you, but can't seem to get the nut that holds the Y axis screw loose, how did you accomplish this?
@wastelandworkshop3839
@wastelandworkshop3839 Год назад
The nut for the y axis is pressfitted into the cast iron body. I used a punch and a hammer to get it out. Hope this helps.

Honestly i have no idea And i really think i don't want to know :D. But if i had to guess i would say around 1200€. Keep in mind this includes some tooling, material and a whole bunch of upgrades (DRO, power feed, etc). The video with the upgrades is not released yet.

To be honest i don't have to many plans I do have the same detail plans i showed in the video with some meassurements on them and some rough sketches. But i used them during machining. They are very dirty. I don't know how much they would help you.
