Rode and drove quite a few miles in the Dodge M880 as a Marine in California, Japan and Korea during the early 80's. It rode rough, and if it started, it would go anywhere you pointed it. Nice restoration job.
when i was stationed with the 7th div at FT ORD.calif i had one of them also when i went to korea i again had one for me it was a good truck. wish i had one now.
Awsome resto on it! There's an M880 sitting in a junkyard a few miles from my house... I'm so tempted to get it... The floors are bad and the bottoms of the fenders are rusty but the rest is surprisingly clean... If only I had fewer projects
The truck is painted with Acrylic Laytex, Mixed 3 to 1 and sprayed out of a HVLP gun @ 50 psi with slightly pressurised cup. It takes a little practice to paint them this way and you can not paint in high humidty but it looks great when done right. when most people spray a cammo job they do not mask off in between the colors, the splatter makes the edges fuzzy witch helps in the cammo effect. If the lines were crisp and sharp, it would stand out to much. Good luck with your truck.
I know most of these had no power steering and I am looking at one to replace my old 77 Blazer plow truck with ! How does it steer with the plow on it with manual steering on it ? Also where did you get the lower plow frame for that plow ! The plow looks a lot like my old western on my Blazer ! Or did you make your own under frame for the plow to bolt the lower portion of the plow frame to the frame of the truck ! I am just trying to get a little info on stuff so I don't have to do a lot of fabrication if I don't need too before I buy this truck and do the swap ! There is only a 1/4 inch difference form the width of the frames on both with the Dodge being a little wider so it shouldn't be too bad other than the lower plow frame mount on this !
wow. what an amazing truck you have there. can you please tell me the colors you used on the 4 color summer camo pattern? if possible the RAL numbers or only the name of the color please.
That looks great! I'm restoring an m886 and am in need of parts for the interior and exterior, do you know of any websites or shops that have NOS or repro parts?
I'm about to paint my Cherokee in camo. I'm using dark tan as a base with OD green and NATO brown. Pretty much the same colors the Germans painted their tanks in WWII. I want to use spray paint for this seeing as money is an issue, I'm thinking Rust-Oleum. did you just rattle can the whole truck for every paint job ? If so How do I avoid splatter effect from the cans ? Any tips ????
Most folks normally have no clue what you mean when you say you drove a M880 but as soon as I hear it, I think of being on duty (ha). Do you remember the old Gamma-Goat? I think the Goat stopped being used in the late 70's (maybe early 80's). Later
It was definetly the 1970's,I had a 1970 M561 Gamma Goat, the 353 Aluminium Detroit it had was awesome, but I was not huge fan of the Vehicle,I had two of them.
